How the heck do you fit a battery in this thing? I finally got mine in the mail yesterday, and I got a 1800 mAh battery, but it won't fit. I have a 1300 mAh battery that only barely fits, but I see people using 2200s by cutting out a little foam. Does anyone have any pictures of post-cutout battery compartment?
 Vbrugman 22 points
I use a 2200 mAh Turnigy 3Cell ( 20 & 25 C ) It will fit if you dont use tape. * I didn't cut by the way * 1300mAh is to light, and 2500mAh is to heavy. With my 2200mAh I can fly 8 min easy.

So it would be wise to fix them then...
 nlmbc 625 points
would be better to beef up the mount and keep the wing removable for transport if needed.
Michael  10 points - 2/23/2013

Are these wings glued to the fuselage, or can they be removed for transport?
 DU2RK 5 points
They're removable but the mount is quite flimsy.
 Michael 10 points
Could the mount be made firmer and better?
 DU2RK 5 points
Easiest fix is to glue the wings to the fuselage, but to access the motor/fan/esc you have to remove the wing halves. I decided to just add support to the fixing. A photo of it is in the Files Tab labeled as Wing Mount Support.

For safety of the plane how long the time when flying before the battery will get drain? I like this plane.
Michael  10 points - 1/24/2013

Can this be hand-launched?
 nlmbc 625 points
yes it can, with a good toss.
Davidel  48 points - 11/18/2012

From what kind of foam is this plane made?
 DU2RK 5 points
It's EPS.
MD80Phreak  6 points - 5/29/2012

I got my engine burned, is there anyone who know a good motor that can be mounted on the stock ducted fan?
 sking0369 57 points
I purchased this plane also and am looking at the Turnigy p2627L motor. It has a 3mm shaft and is a little faster at 4200kv whereas the stock inrunner was rated at 4000kv. My motor also burned up and I replaced it with another motor purchased elswhere, it's now a little slower and performance has sufferd.
 DU2RK 5 points
I've been using a Turnigy 2610 4000kv for some time now and have no complaints. Can't compare it since I didn't use the stock one. You'll have to relocate the ESC though. I've put mine in the cavity above the EDF and it cleared up the exhaust duct, too. The way the ESC was mounted on the stock motor prevents the dissipation of heat. It's probably the reason why it burns out easily.
Caulnian  5 points - 12/21/2011

Will this fly with the added weight of a 2200 mah 3S battery?
 rtenea 131 points
Yes it will fly quit well. I've done it with a 2200 3S battery. You have to cut a bit in order to accommodate the battery (the space is for 1600 3S battery)but there were no problems with that it's very easy.

Same here, cut out the bottom of the cockpit and don't use the landing gear. Balance out very well with a 2200 3s battery.

Help needed. I have one of these. After it was crashed, I tried to use the ESC on another EDF jet, but the ESC beeps continuously. The aileron and elevator work, but the EDF/throatle does not work. I have no idea of why it does this. Thank you for your help.
 AvidAngel 2 points
Maybe reverse your channel, i had a similar issue with one of my ESC's hope this helps.
 F100CUFFLINK 916 points
it also may be are you useing a new 2.4 (differant transmitter)? it has to be reset to the transmitter some of them you may ned a programing card or do it from the trans mitter yes the ESC ,im not talking about receiver.
If you know what receiver it is see if you can get the programming details and reprogram it , but likeMatthve says try reverse chennal but i really dont think its that at all ,but the way to check that is to try it at full thruttle and see it wit will arnm at full throttle then go to idal and if it is reverse it will run. ALSO IF YOU HAVE A COMPUTOR RADIO THERE IS A NUMBER OF THINGS TO TRY.
 F100CUFFLINK 916 points
HEY THE PART WHERE I SAID "IF YOU KNOW WHAT RECEIVER IT IS I MET ,IF YOU KNOW WHAT ESC IT IS.
SORRY JUST TRYING TO HELP.
 GRAHAM 168 points
Is this EPS, EPO foam?
 sking0369 57 points
This one is EPS foam not EPO. And the elevator is like meat tray foam. I think it may be lighter than EPO but deffinantly not as crash resistant.

i wander when the MiG-29 will make its hobbyking debut????? , im sure theres plenty of of us waiting for the 29!

YES THAT BE NICE

I Paid for mine in April, still havent seen it. HK told me they are waiting for back order, yet the stock is showing 10. What gives. Whippet
bigsteve  232 points - 5/9/2010

Maybe it's just me but I think this came out of the Kamdax molds ?
 flatspin 264 points
Dear Bigsteve, It is an Art Tech Mig15. I have owned both the the Art Tech Mig and the HK Mig and the parts are fully interchangeable. The electronics are different however and are marked Hobby King. Regards Flatspin
 lobstermash 273 points
The motor is an old Art Tech B2025, which they don't supply anymore because they generally don't work. Often burns out in the first few runs.
zaskarkid  343 points - 2/7/2010

People of hobbycity, this mig is an excellent flyer, and it's big like the composite mig15s. But what is up with the silver? Sorry, but a mig should be red. Does anybody want a silver Ferrari? Of course not, that's just gross.
 flatspin 264 points
Very few Mig 15s were red!! The VVS Aerobatic Team and and Czech Aerobatic team had red Mig 15s in the early 1950s but bare metal was the main colour, in general! The HK Mig 15 is in the colours of a Russian Ace who flew in the Korean War, I believe.

I have spent a little time improving the elevator control by removing the single elevator servo and snake connection and replacing it by two sub-micro digital servos in the tail underneath the elevator. I use very short pushrods and ball-links. This now provides very positive control and a lot of control movement for the elevator.

I have also cleaned up the duct by repostioning the ESC so that it is now inset into the top of the duct rather than blocking most of the duct. Air blows over the heat sink to keep it cool.

Horizontal stabiliser is very fragile!!!

Other wise an excellent model.

 Thomas 35 points
How the heck did you get to the ESC to reposition? My fan is glued in place so I can't access the ESC unless I cut off the rear end and glue back on.
 flatspin 264 points
Sorry for the late reply. I haven't been reading this thread for a while. The fan an motor are glued to a Depron Duct in the rear half of the fuselage. If you separate the front and rear halves of the fuselage by unscrewing the two screws then you can easily withdraw the Depron tube and fan uit by sliding out. The rest, as they say, is 'easy' Regards Richard

Hello:

Anybody knows where can i get the mig15 manual?, or at list where is located his center of gravity.

Thanks

pablo J.
 Beaufighter 1808 points
I have not had any luck finding the manual, but reading RCgroups etc, it seems CG should be between 270mm to 295mm from front of plane. Mine is at 290mm and it flies well, without nasty stalling tendencies.
 pandi 27 points
Thank you very mach Beaufighter. Ill try it.
ishady  340 points - 10/27/2009

Anybody could suggest if this plane could upgraded to the great servoless landing gear hxxp://****hobbycity****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem
.asp?idProduct=9300&Product_Name=Mini_servoless_adju
stable_landing_gear_system(that
would be great if it could!).
I think I got some of my friends said that MIG15 could be a slow flyer (it could glide) because of its wing dimension. Anybody who had flewn this plane could confirm that?
 Beaufighter 1808 points
You can allways try the retract, but I think it will be too heavy. Plane is not excactly overpowered, and is a scale "slowflyer" (slow EDF, not slowflyer:). And yes, the plane will easily glide power off without gear, with a 1500 3S battery fitted (I have not tried it with gear on, but it will drag more)
 ishady 340 points
Thanks for the reply.
I wonder how this plane capability of "mild" aerobatic if not too powerfull?
But, I think theres still room for upgrading the motor into a more powerfull but at the same weight, isnt it?
Thanks again.
 Beaufighter 1808 points
Mild aerobatics include rolls and loops, which is possible. For looping, you need to build up speed. If you increase power, yoe need to increase battery size, which will lead to increased weight. I saw that someone on RCG had fitted a Lander 64mm fan/motor in it, and that worked.
 zaskarkid 343 points
A 70mm fan will fit with light sanding/shaving. You will have to make a new exhaust tube, replace all of the electronics, re do the elevator servo controls, and grow another pair of arms with hands, b/c you'll need them to put the two fuse halves back together. Ok, if you can't manage the latter, then you can always ask for help from another human being. So it must be having only bi-arm chromosome.
-boot  212 points - 10/17/2009

Received mine today, no instructions, spent most of the day searching for CG location control throws, etc. Nothing, not even at Art-tech's site. Looks nice but canopy doesn't fit right and is not held on very strongly. Intake/exhaust area is very clean with an exhaust tube that appears to be rolled depron. I'll measure to see if it's tapered, doesn't look like it necks down to 85%. Will examine closely and prepare in-depth review after first flight.
 -boot 212 points
Did a quick check with the watts'up meter today. Turnigy 1300mah 3S 30C fits perfectly in battery area. Approx. 340 watts * 27-28 Amps with freshly charged (12.58v) pack. Only ran it for 30 seconds because I wasn't sure if the motor/esc/batt was getting hot or not, all stayed cool. I have no way to measure thrust but it sounded good and seemed to pull strong for short test. Slight rub marks inside housing before starting, will sand for clearance and check rotor balance. I intend to fly it in stock configuration before I "tweak" it. for comparison. So far I'm delighted with what You get for the price. Hobbyking 30A esc, hextronic servos, etc. Appears to have Vinyl decals, not water slide type with clear areas to cause the "Silvering" effect. Guess I'll have to calculate MAC to figure a CG location unless somebody knows it already. Stay tuned.

Does anyone know if the front wheel is steerable and if the landing gear can take a beating
 -boot 212 points
Yes it is steerable. LG looks good. Main gears have a scale looking cover over the wire. Tires and gear doors look good.
I'll probably hand launch mine though.

I wonder if the stock EDF is any good? Cause i want an EDF bird but i wont be able to balance EDF blades i dont have the scill
 flatspin 264 points
On the model that I bought, the stock fan is excellent. There is no vibration when run up to full speed. The clearance between the shroud and the fan is nice and close but does not rub when operating on the suggested 1600mAH 3S LiPo.

On the Art-tech website, the plane is all red and HC depicts a silver one. I wonder if I buy this plane, will it be the silver or red one?

I don't like unpleasant surprises.

HC should sell it exactly as described.
 H-KING_SCOTT 5233 points
James* all our art-tech planes are custom painted. The photographs are correct.
  James 635 points

OK Jason, I'll take the silver one.

Thanks for the info.

What kind of material is it? (EPS, EPO or styro)
mzfckr  51 points - 10/4/2009

post a video when you recieve it :)
 Photopigiste 139 points
I hava an Alfa Mig-15 and it' s a real gadget( no retracks, and ***r foam , the stickers doesn' t stay over it )so... i don' t take a chance to buy this one !
mzfckr  51 points - 10/3/2009

are there any videos?
 sergetk 108 points
I have bought first! I like this bird :)
  James 635 points

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
  James 635 points

Yeah, I have to say it looks good and ooh...how often do you get an offer of a foamie EDF with a bright red eastern bloc star emblazoned?

Very tempted indeed.
 Stoffel14 324 points
Hi guys google for Art-tech Mig 15 it flies great but be aware it has a nasty tendency to get an imidiate stall and be sure to have enough speed on the ground before take off. I have 20+ flights on her and she is still fun...
 CorollaGT 117 points
Owh fudge, now it's outta stock, no commie flyin this week grrrrrr ...
  James 635 points

sergetk, did you get the silver or red one?
  James 635 points

Stoffel14, what about yours? Did you get the silver or red one?
 Stoffel14 324 points
I fly the red one, but silver looks great as well imho
  James 635 points

Stoffel14, are you saying you got your red one elsewhere or here at HC?

I just need to know what color HC is offering.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear in the first place and thanks for the info.
 -boot 212 points
The MiG is colored exactly as pictured.
 fanny 515 points
Silver looks good up high when the sun catches it and you get that metalic glint for a moment

Arrived OK. No manual, but assembling is very simple. My MIG flies with battery ZIPPY 3S 1500mAh 5 minutes. I tried flying with and w/o gears and the best choice is w/o. Be sure, if your center of gravity is right. For me is it 290mm from the front of plane.

NIce little thing everything is well packet, build fast
by flying we have got some problem with elevator reactions (to small and not so good mecanics) we have to find a better way to have more travel
this plane is fast (specially by landing) not for beginners
and easy to repair......

5 thumbs up!
This is a scale representation of a Mig 15. I replaced the single elevator servo with two sub-micro servos glued in a recess in the tail for positive elevator control. I also moved the speed controller into a recess in the top of the duct. Stock power set up works fine. A 1600maH Flight-tech EONXlight LiPo fits perfectly. On a tarmac runway, take off is easy. Airplane is very smooth to control. Speed at WOT is scale-like and not super fast.

Flies very well, with rhino 1550 3s,20c & landing gear removed [hand launch]. No instructions included, found CG has to be 85mm rear of wing panel leding edge joint. Stabiliser is extremely fragile. Overall a great park flyer.
