After a few runs. got a burn smell after connecting power (without running it). I think it is lost. Did anyone experienced the same? How can this be possible?
I want to use this motor for a glider, so i need to us a folding propeller, which can take the 4mm shaft and also has a diameter not larger than 8inches (I know, it should be bigger, but it would collide with the wing then, when it folds).
It doesn't have to be a super high quality propeller, since it will only be used for pulling the glider into the sky, something like this would be fine, but the shaft won't fit:

or maybe even this:

Is it possible to drill them up to 4mm, or would this be to much?
Also the spinners diameter should be about 30mm (max. 33mm).
Just got a GeeBee weighing in at 21/2 lbs. The specks on the plane call for a 930kv motor with a 40amp esc. using a 10X6 prop. What are your thoughts on using this 450 motor
Fantastic little motor. I am powering it with a 3S 1.3Ah Lipo and spinning a 9x6 APC prop. I am using a 18Amp ESC as the Watt Meter tells me it is drawing 12 Amps at full throttle. Amazing little motor. Will buy more.
Gary, I ran this through motocalc also and pretty much got the same thing. I guess I should have said on a 3s but you figured that out anyways. I was just hoping for some concrete info because I will be using these with 15 amp esc's.
Im running these motors on my tricopter with 10 x 4.7 props, Turnigy Plush 18Amp ESC's and a 5200mAh battery and they are each pulling 3.49 A in hover, with a combined 10.46 A. Awesome motor and even with a 52oomAh battery comes off the ground with authority. And I am just over 25 minutes of hover time. These are great motors! Im getting about what Gary above said in thrust...about 1.5 pounds per motor...so they are alot of power for the low amp draw...not sure if you can find more power for less amps!
These are great on quads too!!! On a quad, I get more hover time than on my tricopter due to the fact that there is an additional 1.5 lbs of lift with a 10x4.7 prop. This results in a motor Amp draw reduction in hover from 3.49A to 2.51 and overall amp draw reduction from 10.46 to 10.03. I got a little over a minute more hover time with a quad and these same motors than on my tri....BUT outside of hover when your are whipping it around, you will see shorter flight times because when you throttle it up, 4 motors will ultimately drain your battery faster than 3. I hope this gives you something to go off of and best of luck!
Yes, it looks like that is possible. Just remove the collet at the back, and the grub screws in the bell that press onto the shaft. You should then be able to press or tap the shaft back.
I have these motors attached to MX400 blades (10 x ?, 3 blade).Still awaiting other equipment. Will the motors burn out with these blades? Also have Turnigy plush 18 amp esc. Will I see smoke?
Thanks in advance!
This motor should be fine with 18A plush as long as you do not over-prop it big time or push it crazy. The specs say 9x6 ~ 11x3.8 prop, so 10xSmf, 3 bladed may be too much for good rpm reaction (I assume you are building a quad). Best to check the max draw with Amp meter anyway when you are picking props for any electric motor.
What is the difference in the coloring of the wire? Usually red and black are on the outside. What is the outside yellow for and the middle black? I assume the red is the usual. Thanks for the other info in this discussion.
Hi, The colouring does not matter. Just hook up your ESC, test which way it runs (without prop if you like to keep your fingers!) and if it spins the wrong way, just swap any of the 2 wires. Brushless is easy like that.
Does anyone know the diameter of the prop adapter/spinner? (collet style that fits over the motor shaft)
I'm after a prop for it and have come out the house without it so need to make sure the prop I buy has the correct hole size to fit the prop adapter.
Many thanks.
Does any one know the size of mounting screws for this motor? There four holes with two different sizes. I am attaching this motor directly to an aluminum motor mount. I have two screws that fit the larger holes. Would that be enough to secure the motor? Thanks.
hi i installed my into a beaver with a 9x6 prop and it did not have the power i was expecting from a 890kv motor but my motor was a bit noisy but not more than what i was used to
It depends on if you are using it to fly 3D or Scale>? 3D you need at least a 30C with a 12x4.5 for planes at 1 lb. if your flying a scale bird the 20c is fine up to 1.5 lb plane witha 11x6-13x4 prop. hope this helps BigSteveH
Yes it can if flying more than one plane keep the 30AESC, you can always use it in larger planes if needed. That motor only REALLY needs a 20 ESC depending on the size of the prop. and weight of the plane. What are you putting it in?. works great on a Eflight Cap 232 or Edge 540 using a 12x4.5 prop will hover all day with a 25-30c lipo.AND WILL NOT RUN HOT! Hope this helps you BigSteveH
I am using this motor on a 500 gr 3D foamie with 3S pack and 18 amp ESC. During hover it pulls less than 13 amps and when it peaks it does not even reach the 18 amps. This is a super efficient motor!
Please guys help me urgently.I have bought this motor and now want to use it.Please tell me how to mount the propeller on it.If anyone can upload photos and videos for that please upload i need to get this done urgently.Thanks.
Mine came with a collet style prop adapter.
Just slipped straight over the shaft and screwed down.
If yours didn't come with one, I'd recommend getting one. Easiest way to attach prop to shaft
Does this motor come with the connectors already on it? If so what type are they? This is the one thing I don't like about the HK pics. They do not show the whole item.
are you refering to thrust when you say 'torque' usually in modeling the use of a three blade is chosen only due to clearance as thrust and speed are lost due to the high RPM model aircraft use. if you have the clearance to use a two blade prop you will achieve better results unless you are useing a low RPM configuration like a gearing box, and that I cant see how you would have chosen this motor for. more prop = more draw on the elctricity supply. you prop up to much for needed thrust, you burn out your motor/speed controller. you need just like I do a prop/watt/thrust chart or table.
I have conducted a full set of bench tests and found that the most efficient prop for this motor is the SF 10 x 3.8 pulling 13.5 amp and producing 850 grams of thrust.
Make sure you use at least a 1300 mah 20C 3S pack.
Hope this helps
edd!
It is good info Edd but as a quadcopter needs four props and two must counterrotate, I cant find a 10x3.8 in reverse pitch. I did find however the 9x5 was very close to 800g so I am useing that now. I really should have chosen the higher KV version of this motor. but this is working fair. not unhappy.
I don't have a deep understanding about multi-rotor systems (yet) and how exactly they work. I actually started reading about those yesterday and put an order today :) However, I have read in several posts that one will need high torque in such setup for best lift... that is why it came to my head the SF idea. What do you think will happen if you reverse 2 motors and their props? should this work the same way? I am sure I will try it soon :D
Yes it does include a mount and a prop adaptor. this mount is amazingly different from all mount i have seen till now....i dont know about the performance, but i will definately buy it because of the looks.... killer looks...
I got three for different AC and find them to be great. No differents between them and the 6100 ser. Had any one having problems with HK's return policy?
this goes with an 18-30A speed controller and the back plate screws into the motor and mounts to the model, then the prop goes on the hub and tighten it to grip onto the shaft. :)
Got this motor today looks in good condition.Guys as this is my first rc plane please help me with the installtion. What to connect to what and how? Please tell.
the middle wire goes to the middle wire of the ESC and you have to guess the other two wires. you connect the battery to the electronic speed controller and the ESC goes to the receiver to power your servos.

I think that this is a virtual motor meant for working with Real Flight simulator.
Still need to check it on other simulators
What a great motor I can not believe the quality WOW!! Flying in an GWS estarter and is a rocket should have bought the 400! recomment this motor flying a 10x4.7 very good pull nice motor

This motor is a bolt-in for Parkzone Foamie Planes that take a 480 size motor. It does NOT fit any of the EFLITE planes requiring a Park 480. The Park 480 is a different motor. It has a TOTALLY different bolt pattern on the back of the motor.
I ordered this motor for my mini funtana. I've been flying with it for about two weeks, and its proformed flawlessly. It looks and feels just like the eflite 450, but alot cheaper. I recomend this to anyone who wants an affordable and dependable motor.
