With its huge sail bright colours and carbon fibre effect hull, this is a very striking and fast R/C Yacht. All required items are installed, including mainsail winch, steering servo and all rigging, sail and hardware. All you need to do is add your own receiver and battery! Boat hull is based entirely on a racing yacht and moulded in fibreglass with a perfect gelcoat and enamel painted carbon fibre effect finish. In a stiff breeze these boats can be extremely quick and perform turns rapidly, proving to be very exciting.

John thanks for the info I think the phantom is,a great entry level boat.have been a racer for 45 years had to sell my bouy racer/ sport boat two years ago raced San Francisco bay and coastal races most of my life been flying RC last six years thought it as time to try a boat Glen Clearlake Ca
Thank you John for that info. Many people ask where replacement parts can be bought. Having done real sailing on larger boats I am really impressed with the detail of how the rigging is done on the Phantom. I believe the boat sails well because it is designed the same as a real one is. I just wish i could get mine out more often.
I don't think i would buy another boat,With this kind of sport something is going to break. What good is it if you can't fix it? I don't see it as a throw away product.Where are the parts?
if you read back through the forum here you will see weere someone listed a parts source for this boat. A company that can replace most any part except the hull. Have fun.
Andy checked out the Shunbo site would like to see there parts list but don't want to buy a book to see it.checked out thunder tiger but did not see mast side of goose neck i will keep looking would like to thank both John and your self for responding. Glen Clearlake CA
saw one of these the other day sailed really good with just a little work on the rigging I sail a cat but I' buying one of these just because the price is right and all the rigging and sail seem to be quality stuff
It really is an excellent boat, and You can't really beat it for the price. But the lead for the keel will add a lil bit to the cost. Still I am very pleased with the over all value.
I know it is going to take a boatload of upgrades to make this a quality sailing yacht. There are plenty of folks out there experienced in doing this as well as amateurs who think they know and give out bad information. Does anyone know of a forum or web site that has accurate information on how to turn this into a real sailing yacht.
This boat is not all that complicated. I poured some CA glue into the keel to seal it before doing the lead. Also I filled the hole for the keel bolt with epoxy and sucked it in to the keel to seal that, then drilled it out after the epoxy set up. You need about 45 ounces of lead shot or fishing weights, pour that into the keel and seal with epoxy. The result is a keel that won't drip in dry dock and weighs the right amount. Assemble as instructed, and balance the sails to move together. If the boat won't resond to the rudder the jib is too tight, loosen a little bit. A little trial and error and you're done. Also, on the stand if the boat leans to one side, the mast is too tight on that side, tighten the other side, or loosen the side it leans to to correct. Still the mast should be good and tight. Any slack in the mast or the sails is lost energy in sailing. Sorry I don't have a websight to give you, but you really don't need one. Have fun.
Shipshaperc . com They're based in Australia. They mainly specialize in Hobby King's Shunbo Chineese sailboats. They have a complete Ebook collection available for $ 14.99 USD. I bought it using Paypal. It has EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about these boats, and then some !! Buying the book also gives you complete access to there website, they have a huge rc forum, if you have any questions they email you back promptly ! Very friendly people! Its a father and son that run the website....Hobby King should really have there website info listed on the boats description pages..
If anybody out there is wondering how much weight to use in the ballast. I experimented first to find out, and instead of permenitly sealing with epoxy, I used electrical tape wounded several times over the hole and ballast.
I am using a 2000 milamphr NiMH battery that is essentially the same size as a drycell 4.8. I also got a charger that is flexible and will charge any of the existing types of battery chenistry. It is a bit more than nicacs but it carrys a long lasting charge.
Andy,
Thanks for reply. Can you give me a concrete example of a battery sold on this site that can be described as: "2 or 3s lipo battery with a BEC (battery eliminator circuit)"
Thanks
Max
Max, I have a preference for Turnigy Lipoly batteries, I think they are best price and have proven dependable for me. I would reccomend either of these:
PRODUCT ID: T2200.2S.20
PRODUCT ID: T2200.3S.20
20C is plenty of discharge rate for a reciever, These batteries will give you near 3 times the time on the lake each over 1 reciver pack battery, You can how ever buy 2000mah Nimh AA batteries and make your own receiver pack. The battery does not come with a BEC, you will have to buy that separately, try
PRODUCT ID: HK-3EC01
you will need XT60 connectors soldered to the input of the UBEC, use
PRODUCT ID: XT60
the extras will allow you to make various patch cords for the charger or other configurations depending on your needs later on.
Another option is the Zippy Flightmax reciver pack
PRODUCT ID: ZIP21002S3P
this battery has a greatly reduced C rating of 6 to 10, but it still requires a BEC and appropriate connectors to make it work. Also you can not use this battery for a plane later on, or a boat if you need to. As an added help in making patch cords i find the Turnigy heat shrink tubbing very handy to have, I reccomend 4mm size for the XT60 connectors. Strip your wire down slide the heat shrink onto it, strip it, and solder it, then slide the tubing over the connection and heat with side of soldering iron lightly to shrink it.
Hope all this helps you
a standard 4AA nicd or nimh reciever pack works fine. Another option is a much larger 2 or 3s lipo battery with a BEC (battery eliminator circuit) to lower the voltage to a safe amount. I use a 5v regulator on mine it works very well.
You only need a 2 ch radio. I use a 4 ch radio like for an airplane becuase I like putting the sail control on the non spring throttle stick, and because I already had one.

I tried waiting for them to be back in stock.
I received the email and ordered one about 24 hours later. They were already sold out again.
I now have two on backorder. These are very popular boats nothing to be found that compares for the money. A little work changing a few things and you have a very nice model. Don't waste your time waiting on them to be IN STOCK. Order now and get in line or you may miss out like I did. I learned my lesson :)
Oh yea, they have $22 radios that will work fine with these. I have been waiting a little over a week now.
The US warehouse has them in stock now and has sent mine. I ordered it 2 months ago with radio. You should be getting your soon. I did wait though. Kind of stinks but it happens.

the 3460g would include the 1300g keel bulb but without batteries.
You probably will want to add more than 1300g into the bulb (more like 1700-1800), so "ready to sail" it comes in around 4000g.
For everything you need to know about any of these Hobby King Shunbo sailboats you should pay a visit to www.shipshaperc.com as you will find an excellent user forum but also a range of ebooks that covers all aspects.. Even if you are only looking, there's a buyers guide to help.

Very nice boat, extremely pretty!! Way bigger than I was expecting I am very happy with this purchase well worth the money even with the shipping. As someone was saying the lead shot is expensive $50, so remember to add that in.
Mods: It’s a good idea to change the rigging to something a little more robust, I used a good solid fishing line. Fill the hull with Styrofoam incase it tries to sink and your good to go. You might also want to reinforce the mast head with a piece of aluminum just in case. Be sure to seal around the hatch to keep the water out.
The site mentioned www shipshaperc com Used to be good but has now turned in to a book selling scam... Save your money you can find the same information on the net for free... (I just gave you the 4 major tips!)

Arrived in Co. in 3 days priority shipping. Nice looking boat, mine did not have the servo tray damage. The instructions are not that good but was able to use pictures for help. Put in 3-1/2 pounds of #7 lead birdshot. Really need some setup help as this is my first yacht. Should the jib be ahead of the main sail on the throw if so how much? How tight should the sails be? Should the mast be fixed tightly to the hull or have a little give. Thanks

Just did the maiden this morning in 15-20mph 30gusts. Not recommended for the feint of heart. But she sailed excellently. Was able to control tilting with sail looseness. Only took on 2 tablespoons of water in about an hour of sailing. I put 3lbs 11oz of #5 lead shot to fill the ballast, then just electrical taped the opening. Others epoxy the opening and I think I will too since it's full. Could use another pound for the heavy winds. Also sealed the hatch with electrical tape but had 72mhz antennae and battery sw coming out so not totally sealed. Now I drilled a hole for those wires and will add closed cell weather striping to the hatch so no water gets in. I used packing tape over the servo cover so no leaks there. Now I drilled a 3/8" hole in the stern behind the mast connector so I can pour out any water. I filled the hole with a cork I had. No other changes and she sails very well. Oh, the lead is very expensive unless you have a better source than I did. I had to buy 25lbs of shotgun lead shot for $50 cause fishing weights were going to be $40 and if the ballast bulb breaks and the lead gets out then I would be out $40, this way I have extra in case I or my son needs it.

Just received. Very pretty. Not extremely robust quality. I can see there will bea good many Mods and upgrades to make it a viabke ship. But for the money, I think it will be a nice buy...
