Light Aircraft 182 w/ ESC, Motor and Servos Plug-and-Fly Deluxe Version (AU Warehouse)

182 18A Brushless Deluxe Version

This kit will take you around 10-15 minutes to complete. It comes with a 25A brushless speed controller, outrunner motor and 4 x 9g servos pre-installed.

The 182 is made from dense and extremely smooth foam. Unlike typical GWS type foamies, this kits foam is smooth enough to appear gloss-like.

With the addition of working flaps (Deluxe Version) the 182 makes a perfect introductory model to training on the extra control surface. The rudder servo is also already pre-linked to the nose wheel, making taxing fun!

This is a high quality plane with excellent flying characteristics. You will not be disappointed!

Is this a good beginner plane if not can you please give me an example of a good one thanks
 SigiK 195 points
I recommend the "Bixler" as a beginner plane. Leave this 182 for later when you are more confident. You will get more pleasure out of it later.
 Pemba 113 points
Oh also I can fly in training section is great for beginner, cheap, easy maintain and flies slow and sure , more of real plane shape...
Andrew  6 points - 2/15/2013

Hi. I've been flying on an off for about 5 years now, mostly 2 and 4 channel powered gliders that can be belly landed. I am confident in belly landing and grease most of them in, and can do some basic aerobatics.I want to try a scale plane and have the choice of belly landing or via the undercarriage dependent on field. Is this a good plane to get? I would class myself between beginner and intermediate and would value an experienced RC pilots opinion.
 Pemba 113 points
This is extremely great if you already flying , but need wing reinforcement with carbon rod and also need elevator reinforcement as its not designed for acrobatic, if you into using flap then extremely great for landing but once the front wheel breat then take all wheel off and belly land, oh don't forget to use tape all around belly... Surly u will love it and the price is extrely great... For me you will enjoy and I am able to squeez 2200 3cell lipo and get upto 20 min flying... Very predictable... So far I bought three of them but now into bigger scale... Enjoy...

Cheers Pemba! Exactly what I needed to know.I was tossing up between this and the F4U Corsair for speed.
 Pemba 113 points
Oh great I was helpful, don't get corsair yet , very stable but extremely stable but also need very sharp skill... Not the plane to fly right after glider... Cessna is the one... Also not sure which one, if the one 800mm, really hard to concentrate due to color scheme, both side painted silver or blue and gull wing is hard to distinguish while inverting... Cessna is great and parts are available online e by as well... Skyartec cessna ... Cheers

Does someone have the dimensions of the battery compartment handy? I'm hoping to fit a Zippy compact 3S 1800 or Zippy 3S 2200 in there... I'm hoping the 1800 will fit but am guessing I'm out of luck with the 2200! Thanks!
 Jake 5 points
The dimensions are 110x34x32 max
 Pemba 113 points
The 2200mah fits the turnigy one, 1850 no problem,, hope this helps, 2200 easy 15min flight upto 20, 1300, 9 min but don't forget to wing reinforcement and also elevator..,
Rc Flyer221  11 points - 12/15/2012

Best to replace the tail set of this plane. i built my own from depron sheet for backs of photo frames, and it flys better. had a scare when half my elevator broke in flight but i got it back safely. Flys well with 1/2 an elevator, (not recommended) if you ever have the same problem
Rc Flyer221  11 points - 12/6/2012

i personaly would not recommend thsi as a beginner plane, i have bought the same one on ebay and it doesnt hold a crash very well. i still have mine and i have crashed twice in the past 2 months. My wing snapped and my rudder has 2. this is a intermediate to strong intermidate plane

To anyone who has this plane would you recommend it to a beginner who has had one other plane?
Thanks.
 Chris 48 points
Not a beginner plane, is actually a little bit to tricky for a first plane. Chris.

 Alex 26 points
Thanks Chris
I've decided to get the AXN floater jet because its easy to fly.
 Chris 48 points
Good choice, it looks pretty good, could be quite quick! Chris.
 Pemba 113 points
Hi Alex, if you already flown then its ok to move but set your throttle to 0-75 percent if you have radio with programming ... Yea the wing need to be reinforced as I already mentioned and elevator also need to be reinforced... Once is trimmed then its so predictable and tons of flight... Can do lots of acrobatic but it's not meant for that... For the price why don't you try ? U will enjoy it...
 keenanj3cub 22 points
I THINK ITS A GREAT BEGINNER PLANE IT WAS MY FIRST AND IT HOLDS UP IN FULL SPEED CRASHES STRAIGHT INTO THE GROUND

is this made of epo foam?
 Gtrain 120 points
EPO baby! Hit the buy button and get it up in the air ASAP
 Jack 16 points
Yes it is. Fairly strong just get a 4mm carbon rod in the wing though. There's a slot ready there for it.
 Pemba 113 points
It's epo but not densed epo, specially the elevator and rudder section, I would recommend to reinforced these all weather carbon rod or anything harder to hold, for scale flying b ok but bit of acrobatic, def reinforcement, the fuselage is extremely strong but the elevator and rudder will bend or break without crash unless reinforce ... Cheers

I just bought this plane and i will get it in 4-7 days should I get a new motor
 TooManyToys 15 points
I had this little beauty, flew nice with the stock setup
 Jack 16 points
Flies well With the stock setup. Can do loops, inverted etc. if your after more power try this D2830-11 outrunner. With a 4s battery (which fits easily) and a new esc you should be able to do hovers and go much faster.

 Gtrain 120 points
It has heaps of power stock as suggested. 1300 mah 3s will give you 15mins of cruising at 1/2 throttle no worries

Can you take the landing gear off?
 frank 5 points
I tolk off all landing gear. Replace the propelle with a folding prop 8x6. In this way, you can land on lawn on the belly without breaking the prop. In addition, you can modify the landing by shifting the two wheels toward the front. This involve cutting a slot in the foam at the front of the battery compartment, and then add a rear wheel, then, lots of epoxy to fix it. It is fiddely but it safes a lot of pain from bad landing. Further more, try out the stabliser - i68AP. I had the best flight ever.
 frank 5 points
Correction, it is a I86AP stabilisation control board. You will notice the difference.
 Air Boss 10 points
You sure can. The rear set of wheels are connected by a piece of wire that slots into the fuselage, simply don't put those on. The nose wheel is steerable so it comes with a wire that pokes out the bottom of the fuselage. You can undo the sleeve with a small allen key and your all set. This aircraft is great for belly landing, you don't need a foldable prop though, if you flare out on landing she just settles nicely onto the ground.
Cheers,
Air Boss
 Jack 16 points
Yes it is quite easy and belly landings are great.
 frank 5 points
Part of flying is to be able to land the aircraft on a run way. So, belly landing is an easy way out. Try fix up the landing gear, remove the front wheel completely, will avoid damage to the servo in the plane. Then modify the the landing gear to just a front two wheel and a single rear wheel.

Someone commented that this plane flies quite fast. Can it fly an Australian football oval? Is there enough space to fly it?
 TooManyToys 15 points
I had one of these, it flew really well on an ozzie footy oval. It is quite fast however can slow down quite a bit with the use of flaps

 SigiK 195 points
I have flown on ovals, but it's good to fly quite high, like 2 mistakes high.
 alexander 7 points
the flap option is very useful for flying in small areas so the answer is yes, but i would reccomend flying on an rc field or something like that.

So what is the battery connector type for AUS for this plane, some of the battery suggestions have a xt-60 yet one of the reviews said it came with a t connector, wanna know so I can buy correct batteries at the same time, Cheers
 SigiK 195 points
Mine came with a T connector, had to change it to an XT60.

 frank 5 points
I received one of these planes a few weeks ago. It did come with a T connector. I had to buy a packet of connector fome a local shop and.change the connectors on battery, planes and charger. When you buy this plan, the most import thing is to get the right battery size to fit into the plane's battery compartment. The rest are easily fixed.
 alexander 7 points
you would want to buy a t connector, just in case

Crashed into a tree.. OK to glue wings on? Screws KIA. Thanks
 Kellyann 16228 points
Yes but it will then be hard to access the RC gear. If you think you will not need to access servos or receiver for like the planes life the glue away. I you use hot glue then you can remove the wing with steam later. Or you could fit dowels in the body and use rubber bands. Or a large rubber band around the body. I hope this helps. Happy New Year.

if you can remove the old screws from the main body of the plane just buy the replavment screws and screw it back on

 Kellyann 16228 points

Can someone tell me the CoG for this plane? I did a estimate and have needed 60grams lead in the nose to fly!
 SigiK 195 points
55mm back from the front edge of the wing works for me. I needed lead in the nose also, but I did remove the wheels.
 Ray 1 points
use a larger heavier battery in the nose as the plane tends to be tail heavy plus you get longer flight time
 rigidigi 2 points
i just got this Cessna. What kind of battery do I need to buy ? and is the the Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver (Mode 1) (v2 Firmware) (AUS Warehouse) the best reciever/transmitter for me to buy. Im new so Ill probably crach it but thats ok :)
 SigiK 195 points
It's a good transmitter. See my comments re battery above. Make sure you reinforce the wing with a cf or wood rod. Recommend you limit the aileron throw to 50%. Balance the plane so she is a bit nose heavy. Good luck
Planemaniac  6 points - 11/29/2011

is this plane good for beginners
 SigiK 195 points
No, too fast. I changed the prop to an 8x4 that makes it a bit slower. Cut the motor shaft back and fitted a prop saver. Took off the wheels and taped the belly for belly landings. Limited the aileron throw to 44%. More manageable now.
 SigiK 195 points
In addition to above comments, I recommend the Bixler as a beginners plane
 alexander 7 points
you should start off flying with the flaps on until you get the hang of it. You should also try rc simulators for the pc, there are some great ones out there, FMS is free,Realflight Six can be found at hobby retailers, and Phoenix is my favourite, its super realistic, and comes with a special controller that plugs in with a usb cable, and if it doesn't have your plane, you can find it in a variety of addons if you search on google. ive seen this plane somewhere for it.
 Jack 16 points
I tried to learn on this. It was my first plane after slope soaring with combat wings at the beach. Flies excellent but probably not slow enough. Maybe with some sim time. The flaps are great for landing. In the end a few days in I had a crash. Flipped by crosswind. Only a broken wing. If it had a carbon cross member it probably wouldn't have been a problem. Do yourself a favour though and delete the landing gear. Lol.
SigiK  195 points - 11/19/2011

If you fly as a belly lander do you need a prop saver?
 Kellyann 16228 points
SigiK I us one but not due to belly landing but to save motor shaft when I hit the ground. I hope this helps
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED

How would this plane go with http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem

 OzBlueDragon 37 points
No this battery won't fit. The battery you need is the 1600mAh 30C-40C which is 109 x 35 x 20mm in size. It fits very snugly into this plane and I get about 20-25 minutes flight time at 1/2-3/4 throttle. Here is the www.link

Hey guys, How does this land on ovals with grass?
 Sugna 189 points
Its best to land one solid flat grounds because it usually do a forward roll when you land on grass.
 Munchies 16 points
If you remove the wheel covers it is a bit better with grass as the cone around the nose wheel makes it a bit tricky.
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 r1daveg 6 points
As above- remove the wheelcover. It helps a lot with ground handling to bend the nosewheel wire * 30 deg to the rear, below the spring . I actually fly mine as a belly lander. This plane does fly great.
 John 9 points
I fly at an oval* that is wholy grass but does have a pathway around it.

The pathway is a little ***py but would suit for a takeoff.

How much does this planes speed reduce, with 0 power and full flaps?

Should I remove the landing gear as soon as I get the plane, or risk landing the plane on the pathway?
 OzBlueDragon 37 points
John this plane flies nice and slow with the flaps on about 1/4 and 0% throttle. If you want to fly and land on grass then take the wheel covers off if the grass is short or if the grass is long take the entire landing gear off. You would need to be an expert pilot to land on a small path every time *))
 ian 18 points
take the landing gear off flys like a dream glides forever!!!
 alexander 7 points
if flaps are used it will land great as long as you keep it slow and make sure your rear gear touches down first,

why does it say RTF in the title if it's not.

I just got this plane and setting it up, but due to the ailerons being attached too close to the wing, it cannot go negative. Can this plane fly and bank ok with only one side of the aileron going positive? or do I need to adjust both ailerons to be able to go negative? Andrew
 Sugna 189 points
It will fly best with the ailerons moving both ways.

Is this plane really as esy as that to fly. It may be simple for someone who has flown before but I haven't. I can't even fly a helicopter. But I'm a killer on any flight sim you can name. I can even land aircraft with no power, bring it down withvery little forward speed, just enough to keep air flowing over the wing and then at the last minute when it's all lined up I let her glide in to a pefect landing. Does that make me a possible flyer or doesn't a sim count. I can handle stalls and even land a 747 without power but can I fly this plane? The theory is the same but is the practice?
 KaosKane 1430 points
If u flip on the flaps she will land at walking place.. the motor mount is metal and will bend ina crash... take 2 pair of pliers with u and u can straighten the mount at the field and then fly again.. get a prop saver and u will be Great.... this is the best learning plane eva and it has the power to exite medium level pilots as well <======={xxx} sword ok Kaos
 byrumjr 277 points
If you can fly 4 channels then yes you can. However, if you fly three channels and never flown a four channel then no you will crash first time. Because you turn with both sticks and that takes thumb skills and practice. Try four channels on sim before trying to fly four channels.
 boatee 335 points
I use every channel available including landing gear but rarely flaps except on X-plane where you actually sit in the plane (virtually anyway)I'm just a bit hesitant with no one to help. Just me, I don't want to lose it in the first take off especially when I haven't had it trimmed. I just don't fancy taking off and have the plane do a sudden sharp turn in any direction because it wasn't trimmed. We used to have an operating club here of over 100 members but now 2 guys are left, they have the keys to the runway and don't let anyone near it. They refuse anyone membership and because you have to have a club member on site one guy has the keys and simply won't let anyone in. If he's there and someone turns up he immediately leaves and locks the field up. Now nobody here flies any more.

 LaserBeam 744 points
G'day John, some 1300mAh 11.1v 3S1P li-po's can be difficult to fit into the battery compartment, (depending on the brand). Easily fit an 1100mAh. The 1300mAh batteries that DO FIT give about 10 minutes flight time(heaps). Cut one end of the battery compartment, so you can slide the bigger batteries in. Try the Rhino 1750mAh 3S1P 20C (ProductID: R1750-20-3). Its US$12 and dimensions are 93x33x22mm. Good luck mate :)

1 thumbs up!
I have two of these in service. I convert mine to tail draggers - to do this, I remove the plastic slot that the rear landing gear inserts into, and dremel out a place in front of the battery hatch and glue it in there. You can also buy that part as a spare. For the tail, I glue in a wingskid from HK. The only other mod I do is insert an additional CF rod along the top of the wing where it fits in a groove already there. This was my first plane and was too fast as a beginner, but is more docile if swap 8x6 prop for a 9x5.

Overall, I am very happy with my HK Cessna although it came with a lot of problems that needed fixing. These included.
- ailerons and flaps poorly hinged and had to be redone.
- servo tray not attached correctly.
- motor mount assembly not properly attached to bulkhead.
- one of the flap actuators was broken.
- all of the grub screws on the front landing gear were loose.
- the plastic locator at the front middle of the wing was not properly attached.
- the speed control was dead on arrival.
There were other issues that needed attending to as well. Once I had spend several evenings fixing all the problems, the Cessna tyurned out to be a great little trainer. It is very stable in the air yet quite responsive to control inputs. I had a great time flying it at the local club.
The front landing gear is a little flimsy and not much use for anything. I ended up removing all the landing gear and using it as a belly-lander. I am currently converting it to a tail dragger as per the instructions by another user posted here.

Overall, if you are prepared to spend the time and effort on this model, it is well worth the money. Having said that, I would have been happier to pay $30 more and have a model that did not require so much work.

I haven't yet flown this plane; i'll write another review after I have. I ordered this cessna from the NSW warehouse to Sydney. 1 Day Delivery. Excellent. I assembled the plane today - 15 mins? 2 hours! Get it right, HK Pro's so far: -Seems to be very good value -Huge battery compartment compared to previous models Con's so far- -The foam is not very strong -Assembly isn't quite as easy as pie -Landing gear are flopsy It seems to me it'll fly well! As most of the reviews below say this plane needs some work out of the box. Read all the reviews and do all the mods or your Cessna won't fly too well. Once you have done these mods your Skyartec Cessna 182 will fly very nicely. I've bought two (crashed the first one into a tree haha and broke the wing so bought a second for parts) and my second plane arrived with the ESC DOA but HK have said send it back and they will check it. Let's see if they honour their warranty as I sent it to Sydney. Over all this plane flies very nice and with the flaps on you can fly quite slow. Not quite for beginners moer intermediate as it is quite fast on full throttle! Still i'm happy and recommend this plane for excellent value for money. Thanks HK.
