Update on the 500 CMT 3/30/13
Finally got a nice day to get a flight check out on my newly built 500. Did a test hover inside some time ago. Well second battery about 11 minutes in the air the tail shaft right side spacer and or bearing gives up and I lose the tail. heard it go and was heading back for a landing when I lost tail control. Got it down softly but the skids grabbed (it was spinning) the concrete and it tipped hitting bladed. No the belt was not too tight, I guess just ****ty bearings tail shaft. Losing a tail is a big one so you might consider getting better tail parts right off the bat. Ordered a new Align tail shaft and new bearings MR684ZZ 2 sets one for tail and one the tail drive gear assembly. Hate to lose tail!!!
Went to do first test hover after build and heli got light on the skids when my tail balde grip blew off and bent the belt shaft went to local hobby shop and replaced whole tail assembily with align and new belt have three flights now and flies very well
Great, I thought about a new tail assemble. Hopefully that part will stay together. I went for the rebuild of the tail case. I will now be taken the blade grips apart for inspection. Thanks for the input. You get what you pay for. What a learning experience.

I just ordered a 500CMT and another 450GT just because I just built one and love it. I just can't see jumping off for the big buck when the HK 450 was perfect so jump to the 500, whoya, plus you will need parts for all of them eventually. hi everyone, i was interested in getting this heli but the shipping looks like it takes really long, for those who bought this, how long did it take to deliver under Self collection shipping?
I ended up using 1300kv motor w/17T pinion since typhoon motor still on backorder. With 2500mah 5 cell it flies great. I also purchased a couple Zippy 2200 6S 45c batt for $22 **pretty cheap and works great. Check out videos on you tube under Rotor Head. I think i might buy a 2nd one for xmas :)
Well I am going to go head and get it BUT the one thing that bugs the *#$% out of me is that you can not get the other things from the USA to complete the build !!!!!
its all from the same place...hong kong. its all made out there and then shipped to the US. either way you look at it, the hong kong warehouse is getting paid, if thats your concern. Not to mention the products are cheaper from hong kong and costs less to ship.
Thanks themadkay, but thats not what I was saying what gets me is the fact that they stock this bird in the states but no support parts so you still have to wait if you need somthing it would make much more sense to have replacement parts here for what you stock ,just order everything from Hong Kong if you have to wait anyway? what you save in shipping you loose in down time its a trade off really

My HK500GT kit went together smoothly with only minor glitches* replaced some bolts and screws which did not seem to be strong enough or were of ***r visual quality the only major problem I had was one of the main blade holders was drilled out of line which was an fairly easy fix cedit that to nuttcase a.k.a Myrcguide****.

Anyone have any ideas which would be better? they are all pretty much the same but the last heli I ordered took a LOOOng time to get here(HongKong) as well as ***r QC had to replace a lot of parts just wondering Thanks
i too am waiting on backorder for one. but it will be worth it. all carbon fiber and alloy. cant go wrong. they say no upgrades needed but i would swap out the fiberglass blades for carbonfiber, oh, and locktite everything if you havent already read it a hundred times lol.

yes you combine them in parallel to get 22.2V. You can run a single 6s pack if you don't want to mess with the wiring. You can also run a 5s pack depending on the motor/pinion combo you choose.
What is the best battery setup for this heli? I have many NanoTech 2200Mah 3s batteries 45c that I use in my Trex 450pro. Could I use 2 of these and wire them in series? Is there enough room to put those in and keep the CoG in the right place?
i tried using 2 of my 2200 3 cells when i first got my 500. they fit, they work, they fly the thing.... flight times are very short and i put the batteries as far forward as i could just to get it to ballance. i bought 3 3000 mah 20c 6 cell blue lipos from **************. they fit and ballance perfectly, mild 3d flips loops and rolls and the batteries stay within range of not overheating. these batteries are 29.99 free shipping!!!!!
hey guys buy the right battery and the problems you are having will stop. buy a 6s pack 3000 mah 25c to 35c for flying around and moderate three d like loops and rools. try using 2650 60c plus for the hard three d you are looking for.
I have a cmt 500 hk heli. The belt is way to tight i think.My ? : HOw do i loosein up the belt.? Other ? is the small gear it hooks to at the big end seems to far away from the big gear. Need some help here. tyu
many have found the need to shorten the tail boom by 2-3mm, this gives proper tension on the belt. on some helis the tail drive gear does not mesh properly, you must slot the holes in the frame for the tail boom block to slide it forward <1mm.
I had the same problem when I got mine. The belt is a bit tight but that's intentional. The belt will stretch a little bit once you start running the chopper. You should avoid shortening the tail boom because of the belt stretch. Shortening the boom will make it better and easier to put on at first, but will make it too loose once it is broken in. This introduces the need to do more adjusting later, and increased risk of belt fly-off while in flight.

So, this heli arrived the other day, with a broken canopy! checked for lock tight, and a screw broke off in the tail grip, flybar cage holes drilled wrong..way I see it $75 to replace the parts they sent broken and another $75 to buy the necessary align products to make safe. Add all this up with terrible support, and then decide if this is a good deal! I say NO. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !! This product is ****, don't waste your time or money.
I've purchased at least three helis plus spare canopies and never had one show up broken. I would blame your carrier not HK. Also, if you go to loosen a screw and it doesn't want to budge then it is probably applied with lock tight. You would need to heat the part to loosen the screw. Trust me, I learned that the hard way myself. As far as the flybar cage hole being drilled wrong...I personally don't see how that could happen. The head is already assembled and the flybar cage is a metal piece that is CNC cut/drilled, there is no way the part could get drilled incorrectly. If so, then just replace the flybar cage for a few bucks. My 2cents...
hey there arp35, I was just wondering if you think it is ok for HK to ship broken canopies (I am not the only one with this problem!)Also, in your infinite wisdom, do you think it is normal for screws to shear off (regardless of lock tight)? Seems kinda stupid to use locktight then doesn't it? And finally, Mr. Einstien, when it comes to the flybar cage, there are many different ways HK can get this wrong, I am not a moron!!!!!!people , you have been warned, don't let people like this try to sell you a garbage product.

I ordered mine from the USA warehouse. Got it in lees than 2 weeks and got 1 cent shipping. Everything arrived in great condition and I'm very happy with mine. You can see pictures of mine in the helicopter forum/ 500 size/ Mine arrived today topic. As for the Hong Kong warehouse, they are very slow and shipping can be expensive. If you live in the US and can order from the USA warehouse I would definitely recommend. For $100 and 1 cent shipping you won't find a better deal.
hey i know the feeling alot of times hobby king tries to be fast but they end up breaking parts............also half the reason they are cheeper than just a trex 500 is because they put chinsy parts and canopies that are very fragle
I think its very common for the canopies to come cracked. You always want to check everything to make sure it was threadlocked regardless of who makes it.
Oh, sorry - thought we were talking about this 500. but I did order the HK450V2 plus 8 bucks shipping and it was here in 5 days. I hope your issue gets sorted out
Just ordered this with 4 batteries and got 1 cent shipping to the US. Yay! Had to order the electronics and servos from the international warehouse but still a HUGE savings on shipping since the heli and batteries are the heaviest stuff. Can't wait til it gets here.

Now that I have already ordered the little box thats says I noticed you've been looking at this item for awhile just popped up and say I can have it for 97.01. Oh well, it's only $3.00 difference. For $100 I don't see how I you can go wrong.
This is how it seems to go for me, if there is a swarm link for an item, then if you leave your webpage on that item for a few minutes, then a box will pop up to offer you a lower price than the current add to cart price, but slightly higher than the swarm price. Sometimes only cents different fr the swarm price!!!! Sometimes it won't come up, so what you do is grab your family members' computer and try it, it will almost always pop up then. Yes I'm a cheap ass, but why I shop here. And hey if there gonna offer me a discount I'm sure as he'll gonna take it! BTW just got an email saying both my heli and parts have shipped from both warehouses! So excited!

I Received the HK500CMT well packed, no damage, now all assembled, looks impressive, well engineered head and tail, the HK-500CMT is flying great with all Turnigy electronics. Looking forward to building and flying an HK600GT
I am extremely happy with the quality and price of this heli. It is partly assembled and a fair bit bigger that the 450. A nice progression. My setup is as follows :

Ja, unbedingt, in anbetracht des Preise und der Hardwarequalitt.
Fliegen ist ein Traum, so stabil aber wendig, ruhig aber kraftvoll.
Ich habe 2 dieser Helis und bei beiden waren Standart- und zufllige Fehler.
1) Heckrohr um ~ 4mm zu lang => krzen
2) Abstand Freilaufzahnrad - Riemenzahnrad viel zu gross => Langlcher der Baumbefestigung im Chassis ~1,5mm
3) Schrauben sind mit Loctide oder auch nicht => alle Schrauben raus, entlen, Loctide
4) Alle Lager len oder fetten
5) in mehreren Lagern der Umlenkhebel war Loctide gelaufen => alles auf Leichgngigkeit prfen
6) M3x16 Querschrauben der hinteren Blatthalter durch hochwertige Stahschrauben ersetzen
7) Heckrohr hinten met einer Lage Packklebeband umwickeln, sonst dreht sich der hintere Teile, da nicht ausreichend geklemmt
Hrt sich wild an, ist aber fr einen erfahrenen Modellbauer wirklich nicht so schlimm. Ich bin jetzt super zufrieden und wrde ihn sofort wieder kaufen.
