HK can i suggest you offer reccommended ESC & prop sizes for all your electric motors, all this tech stuff means nothing to me!! Looking for something to replace my 40 size IC engines, Cheers, Tony.
Hi Tony when choosing a motor the main thing you need to consider is your aircraft weight and flying style trainers 100w/lb sport 150 to 200w/lb and 3D etc anything above 300w/lb choosing a prop for that motor is slightly harder some manf recommend a starting point size but given the price of props having a selection of dia/pitches either side of that point is a great idea. to confirm a prop is not overloading your motor you'll need an inline watt meter though do remember a static test will return up a reading up to 30% higher than happens in flight. the esc must be rated at or above the max rating of the motor so for instance this motor has a max A of 40A so an ideal esc would be at least that and preferably say 45 to 55A
Finally try one of the many forums out there for further advice and if possible join a club and pick the brains of the old hands

Had a recent incident with the collet ones (included with this motor) popping off the shaft mid-flight! Not good!
Just one problem here Matthew those accessory packs won't fit this motor as the shaft is out the wrong end unless it is possible to change the shaft's orientation.

read up on RCGroups, there is alot that goes into an airplane flying. wight vs. thrust, which includes motor size and all the eletronics that need to be matched. CG (center of gravity) plays a part, along with the aerodinamic that need to be taken into account. Best thing to do is put the time into research, lots of help out there to guide you through the issues. Wattflyer**** has alot of good info on the math behind staying in the air.
It really depends on the resulting current by your battery-props configuration. With 4s and 12x6 props you obtain aprox. 36A at maximum. So i would use a 45-50A ESC. From my own experience Mystery or HK Blues series SC's work fine.
Thanks! Actually, my concern is also about compatibility with the Naza. Seems like there are pwm problems between the Naza and some escs... Do you know for shure that Mystery or HK Blues series work with it?
Anyway, I'd like to stay above 60A.
I had a Nexstar which is a big airplane and I would believe that you will need a bigger motor. This model uses a .46 glow, this size motor is reffered to in other models or brands as a .25.
If you install this Turnigy motor, let us know how it turns out. It would be interesting.
I've installed this motor on build for myself pilatus porter (3 kg and 3000 mAh 3s battery 60A ESC) and i've already flown with the 12x6, 13x8 but i'm not so happy (too slow), now i've bought a 12x12 and this WE a would like to test this configuration.

hi guys can anyone tell me or help im looking at converting a 40" trainer to electric, recently had a .40 os 2 stroke, i dont no much about electric so dont no what motor size would be the equivalent can anyone help
This motor is usually refered as a .25 motor in many other brands. If you had a .40 OS my opinion is that you will need a bigger one. Maybe something with a 4250 denomination or a Turnigy G46.
I bought this (790kv) motor for my (3Kg) X8 Wing. ecalc says it's OK with 11x7 & 3S, but benching it seems underpowered. I will try 4S (5000mah). Yet to maiden. Is this OK? (I have 80A ESC).

i fly the x8 with a 11x8 prop on 4s and there is no problem!
take 2x 4s5000mah and the center of gravity is perfect. one at the front and the second behinde the strut.
So if there anyone out there who Cares and Knows. I do thank you Karl and if this had been a small motor, I would risk burning out a 30amp ESC on it. Since this is a bit larger, motor I was hoping one of the EXPERTS out there had metered or test one. I have rewind a few motors but nil this big. So any help Please. I am almost sure it is burnt out but the more I look at it, the better it looks!

You don't know much about RC, yes I'll agree with that. But if that is the case, how come your previous ID you used for scamming you had 15,000 YES fifteen thousand point in 18 months and in less than 6 months you've collected over 3000 points. A newbie hasn't a chance of getting that many points legally. I actually caught you putting up your own points last week. I have to ask, since when is this motor so big. Has it been taking steroids? I'd hardly call it large. It's pretty common motor. Strange you wer telling a member he should use a 50 or even a 60 on it only today and yet you run the identical motor within an hour and burn out a 30 amp ESC Knowing it requires 40 amps minimum. Ithink you aren't just a liar but a drama queen too. Anything for sympathy is it?
this is one of the best motors for my buck, used it on a kids rc boat i bought and is works like a bat out of hell with no problems.. im using a 50a esc

how can i say,... go to the hobbyking homepage to the x8, and on the 4 picture. you can see there is one stiffening at the back - than a carbonpipe - and at the front a stiffening. take on lipo at the front from the frontstiffering and one lipo at the back from the frontstiffering. a gopro and the center of gravity must be good to flying.
3s is not so good for the x8. he have no power.

So why do you need to rewind it if you do not have one? Also can you help me with mine. I crashed. When I hit the deck I got smoke!. I though I burnt out my motor. So I went to use the ESC and found out it was dead. So how can I check the motor?

He's been kicked of the forum twice and sneaks back with a fake ID and gives himself 3000 points. Last ID, Kellyann he gave himself 15,000 points. Ignore him. Actually this stinks of setup to me. He insists on knowing why you want to know how mant magnets and then says you don't own one. If you are going to rewind it wouldn't you pull it apart to do so and count the magnets then?
When I pull it apart, then I see how many magnets are there, but first I´*ve to pay for. If it has 14 magnets, everything is fine - i not then I can´*t rewind it the way I will. Thats tge answer.
OK mate I just wondered that's all. Most people wouls simplt throw it away and buy a new one but I do know a friend who rewinds his own. They usually end up being faster than orginally but that's due to different amounts of windings. Good luck to you for getting them fixed. What does it cost to have it rewound?
Ok it is rated for max 40amp but if you have not bought your ESC Yet! I would go 60a Ecs. I find a little bigger, is a good margin. If you have the 40a Esc go for it. It will get hot and you will have to let it cool between flights. If you buy a 60a or 80a even, then it will last forever. (Well unless you crash like me). Yes bigger is better, but you can go too big. Like a 100 up, would be silly.
Depending on the prop mate, a 45 amp Turnigy ESC will do the job. If you do overprop it you may have to step up a little but I use 45 amp Turnigy Plush's and they have enough in reserve as long as you don't run them flat out all the time. 3 at a time JC. To be sure, to be sure, to be sure. Said the Irish lady of the street.
I've got a nitro Cub that I want to convert to electric. Ideally I would use my 2200 3s batteries to power it, but I don't know if it is a possibility with so much weight. Do I have to bite the bullet and go for a larger motor 4s?
I am using 4 of these motors for a quadcopter...I will be using 4 50amp ESC's...Which battery would be good for this setup? i don't want the battery blowing up on me..I want to use a 4s lipo, but what mah rating and what C rating should i get? i would also like a semi-decent flight time so maybe if you could give me a few different options that'd be great. Thank you ahead of time!
Hey there. In my opinion i would use a pack in the neighborhood of a 4s 5000 30-40C for a decent flight time, a little large, but if you want longevity you may have to sacrifice in the weight dept a little. Hope this helps! Post a video of this quadcopter, its going to be a dang beast!

I just wanted to make sure with the battery..so I'll go with a 4s 5000mah 40c...so what's an estimated time of flight I would have for this? the motors have a 40amp max each so that times by 4 is 160amps..but I wouldn't be near full throttle..so if I was at half, pulling 80amps, what would the time be? just curious and can't figure it out myself
Its fairly hard to figure. Variables include altitude, temperature, humidity etc. With a 5000, id estimate between 10 and 15 mins. However, i could be completely wrong. ive got no experience with a motor this big on a quad.
Each motor pulls 40A at full throttle. So im assuming your saying the quad will fly at half throttle. Judging by my experience with this motor, it will around 1/4 throttle to fly. They are VERY powerful. If its loaded down, sure it will take more, but unloaded...No way.
Your assumptions on the power draw are all wrong.
just because it is rated to 40amps max has NOTHING to do with how much it will draw in a setup.
It has EVERYTHING to do with the battery and prop you use.
This motor would easily handle more than 40 amps anyway.

Using on a great planes ugly stik. 4000 4cell battery with 12X6 prop gives me 530 watts at 36 amps. Flys the plane great.
They have only two ball bearings instead of three as it should be. But anyway for the price they're good. The lack of one BB is not so important if you're using this motor with folding prop (farm much less vibrations).
