USA warehouse now open. Our USA warehouse is now open! Low cost shipping and an ever growing variety make ordering from the US warehouse even better value!
The Ryan STA is an icon of the golden age of aviation, quickly replacing the attractive but under-powered Ryan ST (Sports Trainer), the STA (Sport Trainer Aerobatic) won the 1937 International Aerobatic Championship, leading to immediate interest from the US military, if you are lucky, you can still see one of these fantastic looking aircraft doing the air show circuits.
On the other hand, you could own and fly your own! We loved the Ryan STA Plug n Fly so much when testing that it became a firm favorite with all the team. Made from tough EPO, we have really put this model through it's paces and it is still going strong! Scale detail is impressive for a foam model, the huge wheel pants, rigging wire, panel lines and wing struts give an impression of a much larger model, both in the air and on the ground.
There is plenty of power from the pre-fitted motor for classic aerobatics like stall turns & barrel rolls, yet the generous STA wing area makes for a superbly balanced model that is just as happy flying at scale speed. Likewise, the pre-fitted servo/control surface combination is perfect, the result is one of the smoothest EPO models you are ever likely to fly.
It's plenty powerful enough mate. Just make sure you use a 1800mah 3s zippy flight max, and you'll be right. The esc gets hots after a good few flights, I can imagine a 4s getting rather rather hot. When I say that very. But you should try it. Have a look in the files section of this page, for a little info ive put together. Hope that helps. Regards, Baz
OK in the listing it says 1300mAh 3s Lipoly Battery, which I have, seems severely underpowered, in the battery part of this listing its sayings 1800maH 30C ? im confused ... can i use the 1800 without changing anything else ?
DAVID I am sorry but I think you must have missed something. Going from 1300 to 1800 will not increase power. (Well it should no as long as both batteries are good) It only increases flight time and weight. A Motor: 3128 1100kv should be power full enough. You could play around with PROP. I hope this helps
What I meant was, it recommends a 1300mAh 3s 20C, and I'm thinking a higher discharge should give me more power ??. For e.g. the 1800mAh 3s 30C ?? Is that corrent ?
Never mind, in the parts list below the plane it completely contradicts what it has in the main listing ? .its suggesting a Turnigy 1800mAh 3S 40C. Will this work/fit ?
David it will work but will not fit. You would have to hack the body. I thing HK have made a mistake. Do you wish to rise it with HK ("ISSUE" tab) or shall I.
I would greatly appreciate it. And it seems most definitely that the 1300 is way underpowered, Please get them to look at that too. I hugely appreciate it
Do you have the broken on. Measure it. Then is it a slow fly or normal? Pitch could be 4 or 6. So you will find either will do. I think you should have both. I think it is a normal prop.
So you want a Length x 6 normal prop.
Hi all, I seem to be the first to leave fb on this plane, arrived yesterday in excellent time from the nsw warehouse to just outside sydney. Arrived in perfect condion well packaged, damages via rough mail nearly impossible. Reasonable instruction booklet, just take note when you install wire support rods attached via the springs ( basically the springs with the double ring on the end are attached to the wheels - 4 per wheel ONLY - there are 8 double ringed sprins - not sure of the propper terminology) this is crutial if you dont wanna screw it up, the rest of the springs go on easily. I built last night, took me about 4 hours, second time build would have taken 40 minutes, decifering the manual is the hardest but still reasonable explanations, one other thing, large about of difficulty mounting the wheels onto the wing, have to wind screw in to tight, feels as if it may break, Servos are all mouted solidly and the engine mount is excellent, rigid as anything, all surfaces are smooth and very responsive, the option to add flaps is also a nice feature. Yet to fly, will post another review in after a few flights, domt hesitate to contact me with any questions, definitly not the first timers plane, but i believe it will be a good entry level for 3D flies. Overall, solid finish, control surfaces mounted well, looks are spectacular :") catches the eye :D , thanks HK, ill be posting

Ok first flight today. Can fly out of hand with a good throw, 1300 seems to be severely underpowered, i'd inquire more before purchasing the 1300, the info on the bats on this listing contradicts itself a little, take off is difficult if confined to small strip, as the rudder/tail wheel set up is pretty poor for taxiing control, 1300 stalls easily, broke wing off today, managed to repair, not to impressed that it says to use 1300, flies OK once in the air, but seems to need much more power esp in tricky situations, will make another review after battery upgrade...

...continued ... you get a little extra flight time. Also running out of battery in the plane, in a turn, or along way from your place to land, you may as well live and let go, it drops like a stone :) (wish I didnt have to learn that for myself as well as the COG but heyy, its alive and well. Ill be posting a video soon.) I am adamant about that battery ! . Make sure you treat the control surfaces gentle, if you don't have a programmable controller, ( I just have a standard 6 ch ) because its touchy to begin with. Crowd pleaser, with a nice quite humm and nice flight characteristics. The links for the battery I suggest is here - www.link . Hope u like the reviews, enjoy the plane ! any questions, post em below. Heres a link to the 1800 setup to give you an idea of what I mean with this simple diagram of the padding I mean with well folded cardboard works well I think. www.link

Nice flying plane once you get it set up right. Fast enough and quite aerobatic. Cg is way off as usual. Very tail heavy. Gluing on the tail ass. helps, as does many other mods. Refer thread on RCG for details. Best cg IMO is right on the upper wing struts. Flies nice there, and not all pitchy. I use a 1300 3s nano pushed up hard against the firewall. Changed prop to 9x6 APC for more thrust. Added flaps as well. Good value for money if you are prepared to do a few mods.
