Turnigy 1/8th Scale 4 Pole Brushless Motor - 2100KV
Purpose built for the high torque demands of 1/8th scale buggies and trucks the Turnigy 1/8th Scale 4 pole brushless motors feature external cooling, a serviceable can design and pre-soldered 4mm bullet connectors to get you on the track fast.
This motor is a perfect match for the Turnigy 160A 1:8th Scale Sensorless ESC, check out the related items below.
Features. High Torque 4 Pole Design. External cooling fins for better heat dissipation. Pre-soldered 4mm ESC connection leads. Serviceable motor can design
I have the turnigy 160A esc and even though it says in its specs its 5s capable, it flashes red led when I plug in a 5s and does not run. I plus in a 4s and it runs fine wtf, just spent 120 bucks on a pair of 5s btteries and cannot use them. (1/8 buggy with tts-4168 2650kv)
What 150a ESC are you recommending? Because the HK 150a ESC says it will not work with a 4 pole motor and this ia a 4 pole motor. I have the HK 120a ESC and it soes not say that it does or does not support 4 pole motors. 160a ESC is only 160a Burst and only 120a contant. Someone please explain.
The DC amps to watts calculation formula is as follows:
The power P in watts (W) is equal to the current I in amps (A), times the voltage V in volts (V) :
P = I ×* V
So, according to the specs, this motor is capable of continuous power up to 1680 Watt and peak power(for some seconds) up to 2940 Watt.
Awesome isn't it?
Indeed very powerful compared even with all the 1/8 scale motors of trackstar series.
The only one that has more power than this one is the XK4082-1500KV Brushless Inrunner that handles up to 6S LiPo and although it states that max power is 2660 Watts on 22.2 Volts, a fully charged 6S LiPo pack can reach up to 25.2 Volts, so, the max power should be 3024 Watts! Cheers.
As already mentioned on a previous message, if you want to have full potential of this motor, you should use a 150A ESC.
Anything less than 150A will reduce speed ,torque and fun!
I use this motor on a 5kg 1/8 class truggy on 5S LiPo with the Turnigy TrackStar 150A 1/8th Scale Brushless Car ESC, worth to say that does wheelies at will, even at 2/3 of throttle.
*Ninjatech- Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to start a fight with you. ESC will have no control over speed and/or torque, that is determined by gearing and motor KV rating respectively. All a higher rated esc does is ensure that the demands of a motor are met, if not the ESC will just burn out as it can't handle the load.
*Popescu- As Ninjatech mentioned, 150 amp esc is ideal but you can easily use a 120 amp esc with proper gearing.
Hi guys. Neither i want to fight anyone. Everyone has the right to share his opinion. I'm not arguing with the fact that this motor can work with a lower Amp ESC , all I'm saying is that you will not achieve the most out of this motor and has to do with power as with less current consumption (Amperes) you get less power(watt) if you can get my point. Lets take an example, with a 120A ESC and 4S LIPO you can achieve maximum 120*16.8=2016Watt compared with the maximum of this motor which is 140A and a 4S LIPO you can have 140*16.8=2352Watt when the maximum that this motor can handle is 140A on 5S LIPO which means 140*21=2940Watt. Hope my thought is more clear now. Cheers .
Here's a little insight guys, so Im a USA customer that knows when you order from the hongkong warehouse it will take a long time to arrive. So I made sure I ordered my turnigy motor from the USA warehouse so that I would get it in time for a race this weekend. I gave it atleast a week to come. I checked my order and it says that this stupid turnigy badge comes with it. Turns out this logo comes from the hongkong warehouse and it has been more than a week and no motor yet. There goes the race this weekend. My friend turned me on to this site and said his batteries arrived within just a couple days after ordering from the USA warehouse. Which was he reason why I gave this site a chance. I know the badge is supposed to be a gift but if I wanted it and was willing to wait the extra time for it to ship from china then I would have simply paid for it myself. Thanks a lot hobbyking. Next time I will stick to buying from ********** as they have never left me waiting like hobbyking has. I would have just returned the motor and order somewhere else but since they already shipped it i figured ill just wait, even though I'm sure the other site would still send it to me before hobbykig package gets here. Two thumbs down wont catch me spending money here again
you need esc of at least 200 amps or more or if you have one thats really good a 150a-160a with the max volts like a 5-6s lipo with proper gearing..you will get there.
You don't NEED to use a 150 amp esc but based on the motor specs its ideal. You can safely use a 100 amp esc as long as you gear the vehicle on the low side and not go crazy with the throttle but whats the fun in that. The Hobby King 120 amp (40 something dollars) esc will work fantastic with this motor, just gear it properly. 140 amp you see on the specs is max current not constant.
Hi mate Edward.
As everyone involved knows and as you already mentioned, yes it will work with a lower Amp ESC, even with an 20A ESC without load, just to spin freely, but if you want to have full potential of this motor, you SHOULD use a 150A ESC.
Hope to get my point now.
Cheers.
Sorry, still don't agree that one SHOULD use a 150 amp esc, though I do agree it's ideal. 120 amp will work just fine, Castle uses a 120 amp esc with their 2200kv neu motor. That's what comes stock in a Flux and Erevo. I'm currenly using a similar setup with no issues.
I want to use this motor with the Turnigy TrackStar 150A, an install in a stash 2wd, or rustler if possable?, I have the 4x4 slash awell if it will not fit in 2wd, but question is this motor an esc will work together, i have 2s,3s lipos
I use this motor in my slash 4x4 with the hobbyking 150A esc...they work great together and the motor stays relatively cool compared to the velineon system. Although I am also using a Nanotech 4s lipo. Not sure though if it will fist your rustler or 2wd slash.
oops sorry...I am using the 120A hobbyking esc with this motor and works great! Im even using oversize 2.8" wheels and tires with a 21t pinion. My slash 4x4 goes sooooo fast :)
You can use this motor with the track star 150amp on your emaxx.. But you will need to upgrade your drive shafts and transmission to make it brushless ready
Yes man my question is this motor can handle the weight of e-maxx ? And 3903 and 3908 is the same chasis your words for the 3906 or 3905 mine is 3903 and 3903 is no need for to change them :)
Moro no Sul do Brazil. Testei só no outono e inverno. Motor não esquenta, no meu MGT8 de 4,5 Kg, mas eu instalei o dissipador c/ ventilador (código 151000021 Motor Heat Sink w/Fan Red Aluminum 45mm) para ajudar.
This will work. I would recommend the trackstar 120 or 150 over the hk150. There will be significantly less heat than the velineon especially on 2s. It will also be noticeably slower especially on 2s and you will probably want to run 3s. You can go with higher gearing to make it a bit faster though.
Most people I see with slash 4x4 and monster mamba or other 1/8 scale power systems find 4s to be awesome but a little to crazy. 3s with 1/8 scale power systems seems to be the sweet spot. I own a brick and mortar hobby shop in Northern Cali and I see the slash get upgraded a lot. You might be able to get a battery extender and use your 2s in series to get 4s power.
No calienta nada. Puedes comprar.
then change the gearing unless you want to fry it, or run less volts through it. how many cells are you running it at ?
remember: when magnets are heated up, they lose their magnetism.
less heat, more torque but a bit less speed as well. the motors are pretty efficient, mine never goes about 40 degrees on 4s, but my buggy is much smaller too.
what I am building right now is a water cooling system for my car. made a small radiator, a cooling plate for the esc and I'm currentyl making a jacket for the motor. using the turnigy fuel pump driven directly from the cental axle to pump the water around, a watercooling system for less about 20 dollars in total, as a last resort, try one of those.
High timing means a bit more top end speed, the low timing the opposite. depends what you are doing with it. I found it best in high timing in my kyosho buggy, but that's a 1/10 so plenty of torque anyway, can't keep it in a straight line. if you have a bigger car, i'd go for normal.
What is a good temperature for this motor?
Gearing = 17 pinion 54 spur
While running a 3s it's at 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
4s it's at 84 degrees Fahrenheit.
Are these good or can I run a taller pinion?
You can definatly run a larger pinion, 84F is ice cold for this motor. Your good to go up to about 150F but I woulnt recommend going above that for prolonged periods of time. If you put a larger pinion on and your in the 120-130 range after running it hard then that would be a sweet spot. Just make sure to watch your esc and battery temps after changing your gearing aswell.
Other things I did not mention earlier. I'm running the Turnigy 160A 1:8th Scale Sensorless ESC w/Fan and a nano-tech 3s 4000mah 40-80c, and a 4s 3300mah 65-130c.
normal operating temperature is the temperature which is suffering a hand to touch, ie in the range of 55 degrees Celsius.
and the experience of the motor can withstand the temperature without adverse effects up to 80 degrees Celsius,
Hi , what is you opinion to equip a savage with this motor or a kd36-74XL 2800kv or tell what motor is the best for my savage (except MM and TEKIN )! on 2 pack of 2s 25-50disch nanotech , i want wheelys and speed ! i have this : gearing 14 pinion and 47 spur !
NO DO NOT USE A 6 CELL IT WILL RUIN MOTOR. 4 CELL WILL WORK PERFECTLY IF YOU WANT MORE PUNCH USE A 13 TOOTH PINION GEAR IF YOU WANT MORE TOP END USE A 15 TOOTH PINION GEAR . ITS NOT HOW MANY CELLS YOU CAN USE ITS SETTING UP YOUR MOTOR PROPERLY FOR WHAT YOU WANT YOUR VEHICLE TO DO.
cant deceide whitch motor to get in a 1/8 buggy on 4s,this one, the xd4074 2000kv or the trackstar 2560kv? this one is a bit short isnt it? want it to be reliable and run cool.. anyone have any recommondations?
I have purchased 3 motors from Hobbyking to test out in my slash 4x4. Picked up an HK 120amp esc and program card to test them all out on the same esc. The RC Scanner motor fried in about 8 minutes of drive time on a 4s Turnigy Nano-tech 5000 mah 35-70c battery. The Turnigy Trackstar got hot and the esc got hot on the same battery, and this Motor here gave me great run time with minimal heat on both the esc and motor. This motor is a great price and great quality, I highly reccommend it.
Otis450 Im running the stock 54 tooth spur gear and a 19t pinion with this setup. My whole goal was to get the longest run times I could without the heat, and so far this is the best Ive found. Im almost tempted to try a 21t pinion next and see if it still has low temp runs. And yes I just receive my rear cvd kit today :)
No, this motor works great for 1/8th scale. My son uses the XK3665-B-2300KV Brushless Inrunner on his. He had an issue of it ripping the gear teeth off.

Bought this for my RC8B to convert to E. Bought the Turnigy Digital Card & 2 Turnigy 5000mah 14v Lipo. Ran a fast config for the ECS an I'm thrilled with this setup. I cant wait to see how this thing is going to perform after it's adjusted with Digital Card. I highly recommend this product!! Had no heat issue either!!

The Bad: received the motor with a skuff on one side of the can, purely cosmetic and quite minor, but still damaged. The motor wires are TINY! The wires on my 1/16th scale vehicle are larger, aswell the wire is only flexible for about the first inch near the motor end. Otherwise they are extemely stiff and cannot be bent, not the greatest if your trying to route the wires to the esc a certain way. Aswell the 4mm bullet connectors are a bit small for a 1/8th scale.
The good: Price! These turnigy motors are an excellent value! If I had to do it again though I would recommend the Turnigy Trackstar motor if you dont mind spending the extra 10$ though.
