HobbyKing EPO Seaplane - 1090mm (PNF) (DE Warehouse)

A mini Seaplane with big performance! This little seaplane took us by surprise here at HobbyKing. Once out at the test field, the transmitter was soon being passed around because everyone wanted a go! The 1200kv motor provides spirited performance and more than enough power to rise of the water with ease! In fact the only thing more entertaining than taking of was landing again! its addictive! The rear steering paddle also makes navigating the water a breeze.

Once in the air the HobbyKing Seaplane proved to be quite a show of, aerobatics and loops were no problem at all! Optional landing gear has also been included incase you dont have access to a lake or river.

All you will require to complete this model is an 11.1v 3S 1300mAh  lipoly battery and your own transmitter and receiver to get the Icon air worthy and ship shape in around 30 minutes.

Ist es mö*glich anstatt der 1300mah Batterie eine 2200 Mah zu benutzen ohne groß*artig etwas zu ä*ndern? Wenn nein, was muss ich verä*ndern/kaufen? Danke
 Stefan 6 points
Bzw. www.link

Don't forget to dip the ESC to make it water-resitant! It's also good to put some PlastiDip on the wing servos before sticking the covers on.

i ve broke my prop and canot find a replacament(7*6 3 blade).so what motor do i have to put in order to place a smaller 2blade prop?pls help me.(sorry for bad english)
 yfl211 103 points
No need for another motor. Just put on something similar with 2 blades. It 'll fly.
 Smeagle 293 points
Don't think you are right. The plane has not very much power to start. No when you are using a even smaller prop (2 blades instead of 3) it will not fly well.
 paddyr2 4 points
from theoretical POV - a 8x7 2blade should be similar to a 7x6 3blade. But if there is no room for an 8inch prop....anyway, HK has a 7x6 3blade. (GWS propsaver mount, but filling the center with epoxy and drilling a proper hole made it useful for me)

Connecting ESC with the motor is a big ask. The wires are not long to enough to get connected but after 2 hours of strugle I managed. I sujjest hat the wires attached to motor should be long enough for easy assembly !! No instructions about C of G
 cocoamande 6 points
the CG is about 3,5cm behind the frontside of the wing! Nearly exact where the servo-wires go!
 cocoamande 6 points
I also made some modifications under the wing for easier ESC assambly... I just took away some EPO next to the motormount. Now my wires go into the same hole as the wing-servo-wires... Then i sticked the cut epo into the old hole for the motor wires.
 Steven 5 points
i had the same problem. easy way to do this is to pull the cables from the speed controller up where the motor is mounted. i used a small cable and taped the other 3 from the esc to it and pulld it up. and connect to the engine and test first. if it is turning the right way then pull the esc forward carefully untill the motor is inplace

Hi fellas! I'm diego from Italy. I had my first icon : 1300Kv Aeolian 250W motor with 7x5 APC prop and had lot of fun for more than a year, I used it really hard on water, and stunts :) at least it find death for excessive usage! Now I got a new one here from HobbyKing. This is my latest setup: Emax CF2812 Outrunner 1600Kv (powerful and fast!) with 7x5 APC and the planse goes BOOM! take off form water in a bounch of centimeters....this power is enough! or too much? :) better have more power and control it than have undepowered plane...of course. The Emax motor motor is really cheap and you can find it on the net everywhere. Antoher thing: Longer the motor wires for easy esc wiring and easy esc change in case of fried! I KNOW to connect motors to esc with short wires provided form factory IS CRAZY AND ANNOYING! take it easy to everyone and sorry for my horrible english! Bye

go to the version of this plane which is located in china (not German WH). Then click on video! There is also a HK-Review!
 Andy2No 83 points
AndyRebok, that video you linked to looks like the bigger, 1380mm wingspan kit version, judging by the size and the inboard ailerons. As they haven't given this version a proper name, it's hard to find videos about it.
 Andy2No 83 points
FWIW, there's the video cocoamande mentioned, in the International (China) warehouse section.
 Andy2No 83 points
There's a couple of other videos there too, by HK (not sure which one he meant, actually). There's a ten minute "review" by a HK employee, and a short ROG video.
 Steven 5 points
i have just posted a video on hk. if you go to the plane and click on videos it is a 2min video just to show it can easy take off water and has plenty of power. this is the www.link

Hi, I flew my A5 today the first time and am not really happy with it. The build was OK. Very fast, nice construction, complete package. Only problem: The steerable nose wheel was glued in and wouldn't move at all, so I had to cut the wire to get the rudder working. I would have preferred to get NO wheels anyway - the side-swimmers could have been formed much better if there wasn't a slot for the wheels... And its a seaplane, why add wheels to it? The 1300mAH battery (combo...) seems to be too heavy, The side swimmers are so deep in the water that they spray a lot of water into the prop. Sometimes they will get so deep into water, that they "undercut" and go under water completly. You need some trys to get out of the water. Flight time is very, very long (stopped after 18 minutes and still at 3,75V/cell) - so maybe it would be better to use a smaller battery? Will try that. I guess, 850mAh should be enough. The motor/prop matching is not very good. Prop seems to be too fast: At half throttle the plane is quite fast already and from that point it gets louder and louder but not much more speed. And there is speed, but no power. You can't climb very good ~40° is not enough for my taste. The worst thing is, you can't do much about it, as there is not enough space for a bigger but slower prop :( Let's hope reducing the weight will help, will try that. And I am not happy

(part 2, as the review was cut off) And I am not happy about the flight characteristics. I played with the CG but it did not really help. The plane is very unstable on ailerons - and ONLY on ailerons. You have to work hard to keep it straight. Not sure what causes this, but it's not much fun to fly. At the end I flew with CG at ~4cm. That gave a close to neutral curve when diving vertically and felt best, but still not really good. When the plane is flown very fast it is a little better. But its a shame, the plane can be flown very slow, but it is very unstable then. Still, it's a lot of plane for the money - and maybe I will be able to modify it to get better? But as it comes from the box, it's not flying very well. Look nice though ;) As I hope I will be able to fix the problem somehow and because of the nice build quality of the plane itself, I still give 3 stars overall. Regards, - Oliver

Pas facile à faire voler. Pas de pièces de rechange. Train avant fragile et surtout impossible à réparer sauf à faire des découpes au cuter ...
Cokpit peu étanche; j'au déjà bruler 2 esc.

I had my plane within 3 days after ordering, well packed. Sturdy material, everything fits fine, but with some issues. I had a bad contact motor-esc; contacts could not be reached. Had the motor dismounted and soldered on longer leads. The steering mechanism of the front wheel cannot be reached without cutting. I fly on a tall grass meadow, so no need of the wheels, but still a pity.
Loaded up with a 1300 mah lipo which balances the plane allright. Flies very fine, enough power to handle some wind, though better on calm weather as it is rather light. Easy hand launch and dead stick landing. Does aerobatics and flies upside down. A bit itchy on the elevator, so install little expo. Don't put in a heavy battery or FPV, it's not meant to carry loads. Can have some battering, though not a beginners plane.

Flies great with Contour Roam camera for filming using 1300mah 3s lipo. Havent tried it on water but on snow at about -15c and it flew for about 10minutes on a charge deadly close to killing the cells. it gets some snow inside the plane so i guess it will take in water. had a crash that riped out the connections on the ESC but some easy cutting to reach the motor connectors and it was fixed. i would kinda see this one as pretty valuable if you are ready to fix alot yourself like extra waterproofing and stuff like that. Could also land it at almost walking speed with some light headwind. Gave the value 5 crowns cos i like it.. Quality 2 crowns cos the wing actully got loose after a mild crash on the nose, and to much stuff is open for water. Kinda like saying your mobile phone is made for water cos it wont die for the first 2 sec. I would give the design of the plane a 2/5 since changing motor or esc needs cutting and no real good weak point releasing the wings in-case of a crash saving them from greater damage. The important part of the review: Its worth it to buy it. just know this product pretty much gives you what you pay for. its a $100 plane no more.
