Turnigy TrackStar 4168 2650KV 1/8th Brushless Motor (USA Warehouse)
Yes it will work with that motor, but you see in in my review right below this question that the one I received last week does not work with the sensor hooked up,so word of caution if you are going to use it sensored it might or might work.Good luck you might get a good one,its probably a 50/50 chance you will get a good one,but what can you expect for $40 bucks.Get 2 if you can yourchances will be better.JK.
Hey guys, just letting you know that the one I received yesterday, works but not with the sensor hooked up.Has no acceleration and coggs very bad with the sensor hooked up.Works just fine with the sensor Unhooked.Just a Caution for you guys.JK.
I have been in the hobby for over 30 years, its hooked up correctly.I have 4 of these that I have bought over the years. Was just letting everybody know that the new batch is not as good as older ones.JK.
Do u need the pro card to calibrate the throttle and if not how do u do it?
I didn't order the card when I got the esc and i have been waiting a month to for the program card and can't use my cars cause they don't act right. Sometimes it goes forward when I pull the trigger and sometimes it doesn't or will randomly go in reverse!
No you do not need the card to program the throttle.Turn your transmitter on,hook a battery up to the esc,While holding down the little red button on the on/off switch turn it on and hold it until the esc light comes on(about 4 seconds)pull the throttle to full throttle until the Orange LED is on solid, then release the red button, pull the throttle to full position until red LED blinks and will be on solid, the motor beeps. Then push the throttle to full brake position until the orange LED blinks and will be on solid, the motor beeps. Then return to neutral position, both the red LED and orande LED wink, the throttle range calibration is confirmed. You might have to change your throttle channel to reverse depending on your transmitter.Hope this helps.JK.
it seems to you might be recieving radio interference ? are you using a 2.4 ghz radio or an old crystal radio? hobbyking sells sone really nice 2.4ghz radios on here -brushless tends to create interferne itself-hope that helps
that is too low of a kv motor for this esc hence the slow start it tells you not to use lower than 7.5 turn motors because of the rpm needed this is more of a 4 cell controller than a 3 cell it likes the low kv motors but you can gear them to the moon and back with low kv and there is no issue i have one running 42/63 in a 1700kv package and it screams
You change the voltage cutoff with the programming card. It auto detects how many cells when you turn it on, and it beeps to indicate how many it detected.
I found the default voltage cutoff was too low, and it was over-discharging my batteries. I believe it was 2.8V/cell. I changed it to 3.0V/cell and it seems to have solved the problem, though I would even consider ***ping it up to 3.2.
If you're running NiMH or NiCd batteries, you can disable the voltage cutoff entirely.
I have a question about batteries. In the manual I can't find where it specifically says how to change battery types.... All I can find is low voltage cut-off. I know low voltage cut off is for lipos..... But I keep seeing peeps say to check settings to see if you have it set for lipos. Just Wanna make sure... Don't Wanna kill this beast of a awesome esc. I'm running a couple of 2s and 3s. What should cut off voltage should I set it at. THX for being patient.
the esc will auto-detect the type of battery so you dont need to worry about lip vs. nimh.
if you are running nimh though, make sure you turn off the lipo cut-off because it will prohibit your maximum runtime.
you wont kill it with 2-3 cells though. that is a perfect sweet spot. I even run 4s 5000mAh 40C batteries and it barely gets hot.
This is effectively a SENSORLESS ESC. With the sensor cable connected, acceleration is smooth, but prohibitively slow for anything but crawling. Changing settings using the programming card does not solve the acceleration problem. That said, it is still a GOOD sensorless ESC, it just should not be considered as an alternative to other sensored ESCs.
the brake on mine is very strong. are you saying you cant brake when you turn? that doesn't make sense. the programming card will help you out though. good luck!
Can this ESC be programmed without the programming card? Other similar ESCs allow you to change settings by following a series of beeps or flashes while holding down the "set" button.
Hello. I'm experiencing slow acceleration with this esc.
Went through all the throttle calibration steps and everything checked out.
When I use the esc and motor with the sensor cable attached acceleration is slow. When I remove the sensor cable, acceleration is good (aside from a little bit of cogging at low throttle). I've played with the settings using the programming card and none of them seem to help.
Here's my current set-up:
1/10 2WD SCT
24t pinion
81t spur
Turnigy nano-tech 5000mah 2S 35~70C Lipo Pack
Hobby King 120A Sensored/Sensorless Car ESC
Turnigy TrackStar 17.5T Sensored Brushless Motor 2270KV
Any ideas? Thanks.
in my opinion the problem is with your battery i run this esc and ran it on a 2s 10000 mah battery it wants more power than a 2s you should really run 3s or 4s on this esc your starving it on anything less
Hi all,
What card is compatible with this ESC? I have a hobby King hkss programming card, however it says "for the HK 150A Car ESC only".
Heres a pic of the card
Thanks,
Jwalk33
I plan on using this esc in a 1/8 buggy with the turnigy 1900kv just for bashing. You guys think ill have glitching trouble if I use a savox 1268 servo?
thanks adam but that didnt change anything i hope i didnt waste my money on this but i have went completly thru all steps and it only programs in reverse what to do ???????
I had the same problem. When you're calibrating and the instructions say to hold the throttle at 100%, try holding it there for a little longer like 10-15 secs? Then go reverse.
so i bought this to put in my tmaxx conversion and i cant get it to setup to go forward it wants to program for reverse any help using a turnigy trackstar 2650 motor and 5300 lipo battery help i want to go reaally fast whats the deal
I would say yes because i have run the castle 1/10 7700kv with noproblems.Ive run these on 1/8 - 1/10 and worked great on 2pole - 6pole. This is a great esc and is sensor/sensorless
it is programmable via set button but being you dont have a manual or any way of knowing what item u r in you should just get the card or refer to a manual of another esc that is similar with set button you can program with.
Yes you can. I run this ESC on my Losi SCTE with a 1410 Castle 3800kv motor and it works excellent. I run it on my local track without a problem and it never over heats. I can seriously say its the best ESC I have had.
I don't know. I ordered 2 from the international warehouse on 10/30/12, they just arrived today 11/17/2012. The 80 amp ones are still in stock, are you sure you need a 120 amp? If you run the 80 amp unit on 3S power (11.1v) you can run up to ~800 watts!
Thanks for the info. I'm debating on just going with the 80 amp version. I would really prefer the 120 one though. So I'm just wondering if I should wait.
ive run both the 80A and the 120A on 4s and 6s lipos. they both perform very well, if not exactly the same. Keep in mind i ran 25C batteries, not the high powered 40C and over.

I put this in a regular rustler with a 6000kv motor. I know it is over kill, but this thing screams! with the built in fan. it never gets hot at all. I set this up with out the program card, but i may still get one to change the different settings. It has 12 ga wire and it also has a port for another fan for the motor or battery. This thing barley fit in the rustler, but it works great.

would have got all 5 stars but the description did not say that there were no bullet connections for motor. got and love it. its on my 1.16 revo now, way to big but works better than other esc. will go in my converted tmaxx though.
Very big and heavy, looks very well made when I get the order thing straightened out request #147538 left 01/04/2012 at 13:43 via online help!?! Thanks.
