The Sbach 342 has taken the aerobatic world by storm since its introduction, its combination of stunning good looks and extreme aerobatic capability has made it a firm favourite with RC pilots the world over, now finally a Plug and Play version is available for those who want to get into the air quickly and with the minimum of fuss.
As you would expect, the Sbach is made from tough EPO foam, it is a really quick and simple build that requires no glue, the tail plane simply bolts on and the 2pc wings are a plug in set up, also ideal for transportation. The servos are pre-installed, the elevator/rudder servos being standard size with plenty of torque for aggressive 3D maneuvers. Also pre-installed is the powerful brushless motor and ESC, for maximum performance and efficiency, a 2 blade prop is supplied.

I had the same thing happen to my ESC.While I was waiting for help with the landing gear I continued building and rigging servos and it started smoking and then nothing worked.By the way, tech support could never get thier hands on a manual for this airplane so I sent them copies of mine.They told me to force the landing gear into that square hole-I did,and the alignment was off,so I made a square block to fit in that hole and used all the existing hardware and the alignment was perfect.I finally opened a dispute with paypal and then I got an email from HobbyKing saying they wont help unless I drop the claim.Paypal helped a bunch by getting me comensation, then I get "an apology letter from HobbyKing".Still not too sure about these guys.If you try to find spare parts for this airplane the only thing available is the prop adapter.
while assembling plane i connected the battery to plane and everything worked fine. i had to adjust the servos so i unpluged the battery and adjusted the servos and when i plugged the plane back in the servos locked up and the speed control and motor started smoking now nothing works and i havent even put the wings on it also it is missing the y harness for the aileron. Just recieved Sbach.I have sent tech support a request with pics about how to install the landing gear over a big hole in the bottom of the fuselage.2 techs have told me they dont have access to instructions.Now the ESC dont work, and I have logged onto the 24hr support 4 times and they will not reply they just close chat session.Also, had to drill out servo horns.Aileron servo horns dont fit because they are directly behind hinge, horizontal attach screw is to short, and I have extra wooden parts the instructions dont talk about where they go.I have emailed and opened a report with customer service and they dont seem to be helping either.Anyone have other suggestions about what to do?
Over 14 volts still in pack.Nano-Tech 4000 mah 35-70 . did same on 2 diff bats.I got no instructions on programing esc. I suspect low voltage cut-off wrong.What can I do.Sabach flys great! Lands nice,like a trainer.First 2 flites today.Same bats fly Toledo Special 15 min.
can i replace the motor with a g25 710kv and what would that do for the plane [with the lower kv] i plan on using 4s 3300 mah batterys and what prop would work best with this setup for 3d thanks
Most 3300mah 4s are around 425g and the 5000mah 4s are around 475g,so you will be 50g heavier which is not too bad.Battery position is forward of the C of G so you may need a bit of weight in the tail,other than that I cannot see a problem.
Remember bigger ma does not make a faster plane with the same C rate All a bigger battery with the same C rate does is extend flight times. As for weight it is larger in size and weighs more so a sudden stop has more mass moving forward damaging more plane. Rule I like to use on foam and even balsa use the same as HK posts then see how it flies.
I am ordering the 9177000006 - Sbach 342 (Orange) EPO 1400mm (PNF) (USA.. I would like to order an extra propeller for spare but can not find it listed anywhere, do you know what size and part # the prop is? Thank you!
Thanks Rubnorris. Is 13x8 the size of the stock prop the plane comes with? I ordered a 3300 mAh Nanotech lipo for mine. I plan on replacing the servos also...
yup should be fine. If you want to keep the plane light stick with the $17 2650 4s 25c. I got 5 and wish i had more. Also check out the RCgroups forums too.

All I can say is wow ... ordered orange, but the red and black thunderbolt came in, which is great cause that's the 1 I wanted. This plane is crazy nice, for only $150! Its super quick to assemble, haven't maidened yet, so this review is just on value and quality. Of all my planes, my wife says this one doesn't look like a toy, it looks pro.

I ordered an orange one and recieved a black thunderbolt with a grey main wihg and a white stabilizer,and elevator plus the main wing was splattered with paint bubbles. whose"s steering the ship. VIC

dont buy these models unless you want miss match parts ,splattered paint bubbles bad servos loose fire walls binding wheels on threded screws etc.thats what i got and it sucks .SO FAR IVE GOT ONLY LIP SERVICE .VIC

Plane arrived quick and in perfect condition. Like others I recieved the black instead of the orange, which was ok by me. Instructions are tough to follow becuase the assembly pictures are very small. Plane's fit is very good, finish is ok. Plane fly's very nice and the CG seemed good right out of the box. I'm mostly a sport flyer so I can't speak for 3D performance. It will knife edge and snap roll very easy. I recommend taping the canopy on, mine came off on a snap role on the first flight. Plane has plenty of power with a 3300 4s. Plane is heavy due to steel landing gear struts and steel motor mount. Wheels perform great on grass.

Also ordered orange but got the black/red version. Seems like HK USA does that all the time. No big deal, liked the black one also. Just beware if you really want orange might not get it. Awesom quality for $150. Minor paint imperfections. Waiting for decent weather for maiden flight.
