TigerMoth DH82A Spirit of Pashley 912mm (PNP) (AUS Warehouse)
The Tiger Moth can be best described as Iconic, it was developed from the very succesful Gipsy Moth and designed by Geoffrey De Havilland in the 1930s to meet Air Ministry specifications for a new preliminary Trainer for the RAF. The most noticable feature that distinguishes the Tiger Moth from similar DH bi-planes is the distinctive swept upper wing, which allowed better access for a pilot while wearing a parachute. The Tiger Moth went on to become a huge success all over the world and was used by several airforces, it wasnt replaced by the RAF until 1952 when the DH Chipmunk entered service, the "Tiggy" is to this day a very popular choice with pilots all over the world and is known to be rewarding to fly. The Spirit of Pashley (G-MANN) is still in service and undertakes regular joy flights from its home at Shoreham airfield in the United Kingdom.
This Hobbyking Tiger Moth is a high quality, totally in house design & development that is exclusive to us. Made from tough EPO, it is easily the most scale foam Tiger Moth available and is just dripping in molded scale detail. Small enough to transport easily yet large enough to have real presence both on the ground and in the air, it is the perfect size for a foam scale bipe. Being Plug and Fly, the motor, ESC & servos are all pre-installed and a lot of the work is done but it would be fair to say that a little more assembly work is required than many PNF models, which you would expect from a bi-plane.
The flight characteristics of this Tiger Moth are simply outstanding, you will be hard pushed to find any foam model in its class to match it. The excellent 9g servos are perfectly matched to the control surfaces and the low kv motor is perfectly matched to the 10" SF prop, which gives the Tiger Moth lots of prop wash over its control surfaces for better control when flown at scale speed. Throttle up and realistic aerobatics are a synch, you just wont tire of this superb scale model. The Hobbyking "Tiggy" has everything, quality, scale detail, practicality, amazing performance, toughness and superb looks, it is a must have for the hanger of any scale RC pilot & enthusiast.

Have a look at the files tab in the HK warehouse

There is no f-ing file there...?
Got this 8-4-13 from the HK Aussie warehouse and it came from the Eastern States to me in Western Australia fairly fast (6 days). I opened the package and yes a very pretty looking bird. It was a bit of a handful to build though not many screws, just all foam safe glue. However I took my time and built it nicely. I maidened her yesterday 14-4-13 in calm conditions on a very secluded private flat dry salt lake ( so plenty of landing take off space) in my hometown in WA. The moth would not take off on ground even though surface was perfect it kept nosing down all time? I had to hand launch her in the end and lucky i'm experienced because she took a serious turn to the right and luckily I counter acted fast enough with left rudder until I got her up high enough for a trimming, after that she flew reasonably well. One thing you will notice is the stock motor has only just enough power to fly this plane (It definately should of had a more powerful stock motor) also the plane though seems very slow on aileron control but rudder response is good. The motor does need lock tightening onto the wooden mount as it can loosen and come off easy (make sure you lock-tight thread lock the engine mount screws before building like I did. It seems to chew up the 1300 LIPO very fast and will suffer sudden power loss when the battery reaches exhaustion (so beware and get her down quickly with the reserve BEC power) Flight times seem only 4 minutes or so. So again beware of this and prepare for sudden engine power loss after 4 minutes or so land her as soon as possible. Finally But it's a good value for cash plane (you can't complain there) and with a few modifications it should serve you well , so overall not a bad scale of the legendary De Haviland T moth overall.
Hi Tim. I find it amazing that yr plane had barely enuf power to fly, mine is way over powered, nothing like a Moth more like a Tiger !:-) I used a 45C rated LiPo 1300Mah & thought it would never come down:-)It's so not scale flat out loops are as wide as a jet powered rocket!:-) Maybe you got a Monday model:-)
Hi All I would like to add some Pilots Can any one tell me what size they would have to be so they would look right I need to know so I can order then at the as I order the plane Thanks
I cant seem to find my instructions for the Tiger Moth, can someone please post the manual or at least give me the correct CG position... :-)
Cheers guys .
'Kanga' my Moth is just the opposite, Takes off & lands easily on grass although I did replace the wheels with 50mm low bounce & have the CoG slightly tail heavy, that allows for spirited aero's as better landings.
I guess the secret is to land without driving it into the ground, most people don't know how to land a plane especially a Tiger, fly it on main wheels first in almost level flight with power slightly still on, works for me every time:-)
The motor and esc burnt out on the 3rd flight. It is almost impossible to take this plane off from grass it just noses over as soon as you open the throttle. Same on landing it will flipp onto its back every time unless you are landing on the smoothest of surfaces. needs the scale under carriage throwing in the bin and a generic one placed further forward to be any good. In the air it wallows in the turns , is barley able to perform a loop or a roll. All round it is not a very pleasant plane to fly. With a smaller prop a higher kv motor and a decent esc it may be ok.
WHAT!!! the real plane had a brushless motor, an ESC and fipped onto it's back every time it landed. Where did you find that garbage. You could be right Kanga. You wouldn't by any chance be running a 2s battery? Try swapping the ESC and trying a 4s. Don't run it flat outfor too long and land the plane after a lap and check the motor. If it gets too hot check there's enough air cooling it or as a last resort upgrade it. A good motor can be bought on HK for around $15.00 An NTM 35 is a powerfull motor or even the NTM 28 I put one in my Phoenix 2000 has enough power. Don't give up on it. Good Luck
It Was A Mates plane I had to test fly Actually, but it turns out the motor was actually ok .. it was the esc that fried but there was so much burnt smell in the plane it was hard to tell at the time. He has replaced the esc now with a 45 amp and no further troubles as yet ..except for having to hand launch every flight .
That burnt smell hangs around for ages. I'm glad the motor survived and using a better ESC than you need is a good safety move. Hand launching isn't so bad but I'd advise a few strips of filament tape along the bottom of the fuselage to stop wear on the foam when he lands. Have fun mate. Cheers
I flew the plane for the first time yesterday and it seemed to have plenty of power with a 3S 1300mah... Plenty of power to do a loop or roll. Sounds like you may have got a friday model kanga. :(
My Tiger Loops easily, and performs nice slow Hammerheads, takes off quick, flies almost hands off at 40% power. A bit fragile but ideal for smaller areas as it has such slow-flight capability. Needs bigger wheels (easy) and a fix for the Spinner problem (not easy).
TAZ101, by rubbing back the plane with a 400 to 600 grit sandpaper you could respray the plane any colour you like. Make sure the paint is water based or acrylic you don't want to melt the foam:-)I have no idea where you're going though, maybe out to buy a can of paint
Waterlogged, you can actually use any paint you want to. It is EPO foam!!! You can even take the paint off with acitone if you want to! It won't melt!!
YHWH point I was trying to make is that HK has had the yellow RAAF TM for about two years, without it ever coming to the Aussie warehouse. This ugly (my personal opinion) blue TM has only been available for one month and they bring it to the Aussie warehouse. They mustn't be able to sell to many in the international warehouse, so they send it to our warehouse!! The red one which looks better than this one isn't available here either!!
Yes Mr. Kalyan from India It's about time you learnt something. TAZ, you definitely can't use acetone on EPO or any petroleum/spirit based paints. Even some safe paints in spray cans can't be used due to the propellant melting foam. Acrylic is OK as long as you use it sparingly and warter based paints are by far the best. Too much paint can mess around with your CofG I assure you EPO is a good foam but nowhere near as good as you think it may be. Before using any paint always test a small amount hidden away in your plane. Then if itdoes cause damage it's out of sight. RC Groups have plenty of advice on painting foam. A shame about the blue plane. The people who ship sztock to Australia probably don't know what our Airforce colours are. You can buy a plane from Hong Kong. It's cheaper but the freight is more. Sometimes it may be under $10.00 the difference. If you are really keen to have the right colour then it's better to spend the extra rather than end up with a plane you don't like. Look at the Memphis Belle, it's complete underside is the wrong colour. I could repaint mine but as long as it flies I don't really care. Happy flying mate.
Smile when you say my Blue Tiger is ugly! I did 4.5 hours in a Yellow Tiger getting my Tailwheel undorsement, I bought the Blue one because I didnt want to be reminded of the grumpy old Instructor who owned it. This HK model definitely flies better than the original which feels more like a bad-handling boat than an Aeroplane.
Hi Greg.
The quality of the kit is very good, and it go's together well, without much work except for the rigging, but thats just my clumsy fingers. Once the rigging is set, the wings are very strong and the only problem that I could see was the landing gear, it looks a bit flimsy...??
I have not flown my model yet as I'm just re-learning to fly after a 10-12yrs break from the hobby, but from what I have seen of another members model that he has flown, its pretty strong as with all biplane, tail draggers it tends to want to flip on the landing. Hope this helps mate, Oh I figured out that the scale is around 1/10th or as close as damn it.
Thanks for that MosyCott. Hope your flying goes well. I only got my Bronze wings last Christmas. Great hobby to be in. Hope U post a flight report once U get to flay her.
I bought one of these on the strength of the look and performance of one owned by a fellow club member. I dont know what the fuss is about. I'm not at all disappointed in it. Its a lovely little model and a great flyer. I suspect that some of the "issues" listed are probably pilot related rather than the model itself e.g. she will take off from grass providing the grass strip is mown properly and landing without going nose over is also the norm, providing full up elevator is applied on touch down. The landing gear is also robust enough for those that don't generally "pancake" their landings. I only made two changes to my tiggy, I glued a joiner for the separate elevators and changed the wheel hubs for something a little more scale. I also cut away some of the spinner to enable its use properly as a prop nut. Anyway I love it, especially the colour scheme which makes a nice change from the standard yellow and she's great fun to fly..my advice is buy one!
Just received my Moth this morning and make sure you check it over guys/gals! On my plane where the tail wheel is, it was nearly breaking off from the foam, almost feel off when I touched it. The entire fuselage is to long for the bag (or the bag to small for the fuselage, what ever)and the stress broke this piece. Also the fuselage appears to be "spot glued" as there were gaps along the seam. Flight test tomorrow.....bit apprehensive about this bird now, hope she holds together. I can't seem to find the link to get manual?
Hi MosyCott
Link not working. I went to Live customer support and they sorted out a link for me. They were very help full and I really appreciated the customer support they provided.
Thanks for your help anyway MosyCott.

Nice looking plane but that is about all it has going for it. Very weak. Defenately not EPO foam as stated.
I would buy it if you intend to have a model that is going to last.

What a stunning plane, both in the air and on the ground. So lovely to fly. It's certainly not as responsive or quick as other planes I've flown, but it's definitely the most enjoyable. Has a lovely scale feel to it which really catches your eye. I was down at my local park, and by the end I had drawn quite a crowd - I got several compliments on the colour and scale appearance, I think most people assumed I'd done the paint job myself!
It does take longer to build than some other HK planes, but it's definitely not a difficult plane to build. To do a proper job I would suggest setting aside 2 hours at least and make sure you download the instructions from the files tab. Also I should mention that if you want to fly it the same day as you build it, epoxy is a must.
It was a windy day, so I had the plane at full throttle for the majority of the flight which meant the motor did get very hot. You could probably solve this by cutting some more ventilation holes in the front cowling, but you would end up spoiling the look. I think you would be better off throttling down for some of the flight, or giving it a break to let it cool down when you land to put in new batteries.
Overall I'm really happy with this plane, it's absolutely brilliant. Thanks for this one hobbyking.
