What motor from Hobbyking should be used with this fan? What battery and esc also? Will the motor shaft fit directly? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Don
 RCER88 57 points
If you buy the correct motor it will fit directly. Without know the weight of the plane you are installing it in it is difficult to help. The size of the battery compartment is important. That determines battery size. With that then a motor and esc can be determined. In many cases you may need a 60amp or above ESC. You want a about 40,000 rpm on your fan for best performance. So the formula you can use. V x KV = RPM. The higher the KV the lower the voltage but may draw more amps.

here are some motor that fit this fan .3025with1500 kv,for 6S and 5mm shift also the war head 1850kv ,but you must run it on 5S both on 4000ma .with both you,ll get about1750Wp which about 4 to 4.5lb of thrust .
 Tarek 6 points
ARCDIRECT ,may i ask why i must run the warhead 1850 kv on 5s ? what if i run it on 4s or 6 s ,what will be the problem by then? thanks for your great advices

Can somebody recommend a motor from HK for a 5S setup? Who is using this fan with a 5S and can give me some results (thrust, amps,..) Regards....
 4stripes 119 points
The Tunigy 1800kv Typhoon 500H will probably handle 5S. With 6S it produced over 2000watts/90A and ran hot (including the motor wires).
 PLATNIC 3 points
The Turnigy 1800KV Typhoon looks great BUT are you sure you can fit it into an EDF? The 3 wires of the motor must be at the opposite way from the shaft and it seems to be not the case. I'll add that the motor is made to handle 55-60A, so the power would better be 22,2V*60A=1221 Watts (if you find how to fit it to you EDF)
 4stripes 119 points
It does fit this EDF. The shroud will accept a larger diameter motor than most 90mm shrouds. The problem is that the fan is too aggressive and causes too high an amp draw. I used this shroud and a WEMOTEC CLONE fan. I had do glue in a plastic filler to reduce the blade clearance (used an old shroud of another type).
 ARCDIRECT 162 points
Here is a motor you can try .It,s a war head1850kv out runners ,it,s for 6S but you must run it on 5S in other to make it work with this fun .Of course you not gone get as much if you go with other kind of motor and 6S

3 cell 3300mah 30c pack and 3500kv 1000watt motor. Target RPM for the fan unit 40,000. Motor has a 5mm shaft. Is the motor stated a 'best' fit?
 ben 5 points
i dont know about the motor but im running mine with a 5 cell 2650mAh lipo 40c discharge rate :) with a 60 amp esc lol gets the bae hawk flying nicely
drdiscus  144 points - 3/1/2010

3 cell (36-60 7t 3500kv) motor work ok with 90mm fan?
 ben 5 points
ide use a bigger lipo to get more power im using a 5 cell

Exelent EDF, I'm tested this Fan Unid w/ Scorpion Motor HK 4035-630Kv,(10s LiPo-5000mah-40c - 75amp -18Lbs thrust (12sLipo-5000mah-40c - 95amp - 21Lbs You have to have a magnetic balancer to get this fan right!
 drdiscus 144 points
what method are you using to measure the thrust?
What rpm is the fan * for ???18 pounds??? of thrust?
 ARCDIRECT 162 points
You got be joking .The scorpion 630kv has 6mm shift and dia of about 44mm, it wont fit, that motor is for the 4.5" to 5" of same brand fan.
marell01  89 points - 8/4/2009

I use Mega 22/20/3 (1850kv) on 6 cell 4500mAh. That will give you about 2100 grams of thrust * 75A, rpm 31000.
Sincerely Marcus
 ARCDIRECT 162 points
There goes another joke .1850kv and 6S ?75A .you are funny .Read my other reply , so you can learn .

You have to have a magnetic balancer to get this fan right!

No you dont it come perfectly balance ,just got make sure the shift fits rite into blade tightly .

thanks

Will this fan suit Mirage 2000 - also sold at hobbycity?
 MarcusRjCharita 425 points
If not quite exactly, it must need only small adjustments on foam to do so (92mmx96mm external diameter).

Why is there no replacement shaft [f.e. Shaft for EDF OR003-00110-7B (5mm)] for this fan?
 MarcusRjCharita 425 points
Good question! There is only "111-7B-5 - Shaft for EDF OR003-00111-7B (5mm)" on HK web site and reviews say it does not fit the 3.5in. HK, please help us. Tks!
 ARCDIRECT 162 points
5mm shift comes with it ,but if you need extra, look some where else like fly fly 5mm shift fits perfectly .The shift that you mention i think is typo mistake , how ever i,m getting one to see.

15 thumbs up!
I just tested 1of my UH 3.5"fan with quannum 36-55, with oemrc 100 esc, I use EAGLE POWER 20C 6S 3200 LIPO,

READING FROM MY E-METER WAS..
22V MIN
50.4 A MAX
1080 W AT MAX THRITTLE.

At low rpm I feel little vibtations so I worried about balance...but when I put 100pcnt Throttle.. no problem at all..I din't do anything about balancing. now I'm thinking about balancing seriously.

Frankly speaking I didn't expect this quality from this low price. I was amazed and my friends also.. I'm finally entered 1KW club with that very low cost!!!^^

I also have 5" fan.. I'm waiting for proper motor and test result.

10 thumbs up!
The combination of this 3.5"/89mm EDF unit with the Quannum HXT 3655 1350kv inrunner makes very nice power on 6s1p 4000 mah 25c packs. My wattmeter shows 1030 watts and 46 amps consumed. Warms up a bit so a heatsink is in order. Will be powering a big Gripen EDF model. Thanks HC!

9 thumbs up!

I was really impressed with this fan setup and it does produce the power as indicated by the review of Miljenko in the UH forums.

I will stress though that you really need to balance the rotors because at this power level you will be very brave if you do not. But once the rotor has been balanced I find the motor (36-55)and fan combo are very smooth and reliable. You can add some significant thrust if you can find an intake lip that matches this 3.5" fan.

Kudos!!!

8 thumbs up!
I tested it until destruction. On 5 cell 5000 mah battery, Turnigy 100 amp ESC, developed 1200 watts, the watt meter showed 68 to 70 amps & static thrust was 4.7 lbs. I had attached an inlet, but no thrust tube. Used a Mega ACn 22/30/2. Then twin 4 cell packs, got 2200 watts, the motor smoked & melted the shroud, end of test. Will order more fans ....they will be included in my kits.

5 thumbs up!
I have a 6l fieago motor in this running on 3s with a super simple 100 amp, and i pulled 103 amps at full throttle. at full tilt i put about 3 and half lbs of thrust.
I then added a 1/16th piece of wood around thewhole inder of the tunnel. because the tolernece is to big, with the piece of wood i closed the gap and made more power and more thrust with the same ammount of amperage... i made 5 lbs of thrust!!!!, do the mod its great
