so the motor shaft is not good?
Rudy  1 points - 4/10/2013

I want to build a Y6 copter does this motor works with dji Naza in Y6 configuration????
 Flyitall 624 points
That would depend on the rotation of the motors used on a y-6 copter. I don't remember offhand, but I think that the motors mounted on each arm rotate opposite each other. If that is the case then YES this can be used to good effect on a y-6 as you would only need to mount three motors as opposed to six. also slight wieght savings. Drawbacks include not being able to use prop savers, and the weakest excuse for a motor shaft I have ever seen.

I am trying to take this contra rotating rotor but I am not able to do it. I took apart the upper prop, removed the 2screws holding the second prop and the little holding the inner shaft and I can't go on. Could you, please, provide me with instructions on how to proceed? Thanks
 Flyitall 624 points
Setscrews hold front motor can on. C-clip on shaft at rear. Good idea to lube bearings while you are there.

My XB-42 will weight aprox. 2,5 kilos. Should ROG (raise off grass-short grass). Could you kindly tell me if this would be the best counter-rotating brushless to this plane? OBS.:tHE REAL xb-42 HAD C.ROTATING engines also. TKS A LOT!
 Flyitall 624 points
Douglas Mixmaster! Awesome build, but way too heavy for this set of motors. Also the shaft is so small in diam and so soft, that blowing on it hard will bend it. Hk sells another set of counter rotating motors that are better suited to 2.5 kilos of wieght. It is currently out of stock, but see this sku, COAXD3410, under specialty motors, this site.

Does HK carry smaller versions of these because I want one for my HK Galaxy. Cheers

What would be the closest match to the original 10x4 or 10x5 2-blade propellers, only in a 3-blade pair?
 kiwi4 199 points
To convert from a two blade prop to a three blade setup, its common to decrease the diameter or the pitch by 1

Thanks Kiwi4. Plenty of counter rotating, 9 x 4.5, 3-blade propeller pairs available. Splendid!

need help.. looking to use this on a f-117 easy build v2 from rc power want to switch props to 3 blade 6x4 any recommendations ? not really looking for allot of speed just save battery life and good thrust..i want to use this motor for sure but model limits me to 7" props

guys, i am facing a problem with this motor, i searched online and its called "cogging", basically the motor stutters clockwise and counter clockwise at low speed then stops while making my ESC hot. can u please tell me how to fix this issue without buying a new esc/motor ?
 bhoov128 6 points
Try changing your ESC settings to a faster timing setting.
electrolad  2 points - 11/25/2011

can this motor be run in parallel on 1 esc? ive been told you can by using a larger esc because both motors spin clock wise just the rear 1 is mounted backwards.is this true.
 rc speed 277 points
YES BUT YOU NEED DOBLE POWER ESC
 Flyitall 624 points
Do NOT run these two motors on one esc. They can come out of synchronization and damage your esc and or motor(s). Use two smaller esc's.

what kind of motor mounts can be used on this?
 Markw 21 points
I could not find one on the HobbyKing website and made one myself out of 2 mm plywood. You need to be very precise with this since the holes for the screws are very close to the housing.

I made a template of the mounts by removing the motor on the back. You can then make the mount black with a pencil and press it against paper.

I have a twin engine B-25 I want to have counter rotating motors, that the reason for previous question, as as to polarity.
 Is40:31 1463 points
I have an E-Flite P-38, and like the actual plane, it is provided with a reverse rotation propeller. I am using all turnigy electronics and so far after half a dozen flights everything works well. The anser to your question is all that you need to do is change any two of the motor leads to change the rotation of the motor. I have read elsewhere that you should change to two that aren't red, but I have motors that have all the same color leads and they all react the same way.
Regarding your project, be aware that the prop nut on the reverse rotation motor WILL loosen and come off if it is not secured properly, or mounted with lh tread collet (which I don't recall ever seeing). Make absolutely sure that you loctite it or double nut it or both. I didn't experience any trouble, I used two nuts and bottomed them good. I also spent a whole lot of time with the plane on the ground checking all of these things, full throttle and then checked, all good.
btw, why did you post your question under this motor ? ? ? Beamers is spot on but like me, confused as to why you picked this motor.
Anyway, have fun, good luck and happy flying ! ! !

thanksto beamer and Is4031 this will solve my problem.

can I change rotation tr 35-36A brushless motor by reversing thr red and black leads?
 Beamers 86 points
As usual brushless motor, you can reverse their rotation of the two motor. But dont think you need it regarding it's counter rotating isn't it? But anyway your reasons, if you will do that, don't forget to change the position the upper prop with the lower one also the opposite to keep the thrust at the same way.

Isn't the rear prop simply a pusher prop?
 Eric1180 2278 points
No it's not both are pullers
 iskandar taib 5 points
Pusher vs. tractor simply depends on where it's mounted and which way you make it turn. You do need a "left hand" prop (what people call a "pusher") AND a "right hand" prop f you want contrarotating props. Flipping props around won't work.

If you mount the motor in the rear of the airplane you'll have two pusher props, but you still need one right hand and one left hand prop.
steve1814  16 points -

Kind of curious as to why both props are the same size...

Anyone FLOWN a model with the stock setup? I have a Sig Tri-Star that I am going to use this setup in as a pusher....
 steve1814 16 points
Well, I have mine mounted. You can see the results www.link is the entire www.link like I will need new bearings.
 -boot 212 points
the props need to be the same size for the same reason any twin engine airplane uses the same size props on both engines. one prop would function as a speedbrake.
 RodrigoV 77 points
No. Props should be diferent in size and pitch. The back prop is turning on already accelerated air so it should have less diam and more pitch. There is no comparison between a coaxial and a regular twin engine plane.
 kiwi4 199 points
the reason for using counter rotating props is to eliminate torque,if prop size's arent the same it will not work properly.look at every full size aircraft that have counter rotating props, they are the same
 iskandar taib 5 points
Actually, most full size airplanes with contrarotating props use constant speed, variable pitch props. The rear prop is set to a slightly higher pitch than the front prop, as mentioned by the earlier poster. I think since these motors aren't geared together, you could simply run the rear motor at a slightly higher speed. You'd need separate channels for each throttle and some sort of mixing curve, I suppose. Or maybe you can tweak the speed controllers.
 rpooley 1 points
The rear motor will run at a higher speed on its own because of the lower resistance of the faster moving air.

59 thumbs up!
Hi All,

My motor arrived with one magnet loose in the front bell. I stripped one of the heads on the four screws getting the second prop off. The 4 screws are about 2mm each and were thread locked on to the front housing. I now have the motor apart and need to re-glue the magnet in the front bell. No big deal. Sure could use a couple of extra prop mounting screws though.

The motor is made very well and has silver windings in it. The machine work is excellent. The 6 ball bearings fit perfect to the shaft!

The wood props are nice. I am going to re-prop it with 9X6 APC-E Pusher and Tractor props. I also have a set of Master Airscrew 10x5 Pusher and Tractor props on order. I will be tesing these when they come in on my amp meter.

I will try to make a movie of the plane flying on the double motor for YouTube. The plane fro the double motor is complete and flying. It is a profile 40" Sukoi made from blue foam body and tail with a balsa wing, landing gear, and engine mount. 26 Oz all up wieght.

My pages: www.link true weight of the Counter Rotating BL System with both props no connectors "as it comes" 135.5 gramsplus-.1
The props weigh 28 grams alone.

Hope this helps. I am very satisfied so far!!!

Check the magnets! All mine were loose but this was a small price to pay for this unique power plant. I have been told that AOE has fixed this problem and my motor may have been "old stock".

With the magnets now secure, an APC 10x5E front and the stock 10x4 prop the motor made 469W for a cost of 41.8A! Thats on a Loong Max 2200 3S pack.

Going to start propping down.

It gets 3 stars with plus1 for cool factor.

14 thumbs up!
Good looking and unique double motor. Gets a lot of attention at the field, but DO NOT RUN IT BEFORE making sure the MAGNETS are GLUED IN PROPERLY. It is super simple to disassemble and well worth the effort. 2 Of my motor's magnets were loose and actually got caught in the armature and split. I glued them back in and added more glue to the remaining magnets for peace of mind.

The Wattmeter readings were interesting, showing below 100 watts up to 3/4 throttle then going up to 300 watts for the remainder. I am running mine with 2 super simple 30 amp controllers. Great controllers...

I am not crazy about the props. I dread a ground strike which will destroy the props and I do not know where to find replacement left hand prop. I wish I could find left hand and right hand 9X6 nylon props to replace the wooden 10X4's.
