hi mates i bought one of these escs and i got a question, i can direct plug in the rx? and then use a bec on batery?
 Destructor 162 points
No you need to buy a separate UBEC to supply your receiver with power. Or you can run a separate battery pack just for your receiver.

HI i need some help guys: i buy this esc to run whith 2 bateries conected series Turnigy 4000mAh 3S 40C 11.1v Lipo Pack total 22.2 volt whith motor Turnigy SK3 3659-1900kv Inrunner this is trooble or works fine ??? i need some fast help please thanks Best regards
 Ali 2 points
This won't work on 22.2 volts (6 s), You will burn your esc
FlymP  13 points - 1/20/2013

I just bought one of these and hooked it up to my boats motor. The motor does it hello good morning tune, on connect but no throttle. Im powering my rx using a separate battery bec. The tx/rx are talking because i can control the rudder but no throttle. Last but not least the throttle is on ch 3. Any ideas ? aka I just replaces my previous ESC because it appeared dead. On connect the motor was playing no tune and no response.
 Ali 2 points
I believe you have to set the throttle on your new esc Please check the instruction manual
 FlymP 13 points
I will try, but the manual doesnt seem to mention that might be a problem. It doesnt seem to have no throttle ability out of the box.
 Destructor 162 points
Turn on your radio and hold the throttle full on. Then plug in your battery in the boat. That should give you a few beeps then return your throttle to neutral then it should beep some more. That's how you set your ESC up for throttle range if that's what its looking for. If not it will just do a bunch of fast beeps to tell you it doesn't like the way your holding your throttle. Try that see if it works.

why have they changed the specs of this esc to only 4s max ? it was allways rated upto 7 s ?.weve ran these on 6s for a cpl of years with no issues so whay have you suddenly changed the specs to 4 s?.
 Ali 2 points
Agree with you

Hello I tried to change the parameters but no way. I hear the Bip tones of phase 2 (to select the parameter to change ie, #cells, throttle, brake,...) but I can not enter one of these sections. Can anyone help me?

Any program card that can program this ESC ???
 Thingy123 1 points
Great little ESC! I used a HobbyWing ProgramCard "for boat ESC" to program mine.
jokerrc  39 points - 6/25/2012

there not bad for the money . 3x layer boards 54 fets total.pays to sand level the fets and reinstall water block with thermal paste and epoxy on the corner fets before shrink rap.runs cool as on 5s in pursuit 32" after mods

I do not find where there is written more than 4S in the specs?????

 AnythingRC89 26 points
boats naturally torque to the left due to the rotation if you adjust your weight accordingly you wont have that nasty torque steer on corners and for god sake center your steering trim.
 Thingy123 1 points
This ESC is only rated for 4s LiPo MAX! You also need to check your cooling water flow. Use seperate water pickups for ESC and Motor for maximum cooling. If it is not running good now you may have damaged it from too high of a voltage input or over heating.
PArkWK  14 points - 12/5/2011

max 4cell lipo.
input vol. 6~20?????
 Dave 10 points
they do list this speedy as taking 6 cell lipo but mine is now on bottom of lake after dying
 Kellyann 16225 points
PArkWK the listing says: Cells: 2-7S Li Po
 AnythingRC89 26 points
i have two of these one runs fine at 22.2v but the other wont even recognize the batteries are connected im starting to become more and more aggravated that's 3 faulty units Ive been sent 2 80amp speedy's and now another

is this esc good and reliable?
 cdnaudioguy 14 points
A good friend has a pair in his Villian.. One seems to have failed for no reason - the other is OK.. I am running the 'fancier' Aquastar 120 with no problems.. Might be worth the extra money.

these speed controls doent seem that good mine died on first use

How is this pograma drive? I have one but it does not start in the water is very slow to boot normally?
 gouldie 401 points
sounds like you have soft start on, soft start aint very good for boats have a look in the file tab and and reprogram your esc to hard start
Rainbow..  16 points - 9/9/2011

I follow the instruction to setup.
Before turn on the esc, I turn on my trasmitter end receiver, and I move the throttle stick to the full throttle position. Connect my battery and the esc initialize with a musical tone. Afetr a few second the motor start beeping a sequence of tones. When I move the throttle stick to the center position to enter sub-option, the esc exits the menu. Why the esc out? I repeated many time, but I don't success. Does Esc is break?
 Rokcster 169 points
I have a couple of these ESC's, and they are very difficult to program. Make sure your throttle trim is centered. Also you could try reversing the throttle channel and start from scratch. I have also heard that you can only make one change at a time, power down system, power up and move on to next parameter. Hope this was helpful. Rokcster
 Rainbow.. 16 points
I tried all way, but I didn't had succes.. For me the electronic is fault. Two esc don't work good. Why Hobbyking??????????
 AMG55 3 points
Try to select options by pressing stick in brake/reverse (front) position and hold it, then you'll come in the submenue. If you hear the music sequence you want to change, pull to full throttle and hold. After that you'll automaticly fall back in option menue and you can start again.
 paul41 3 points
if you are using a surface radio,,ie,,for cars and boats with a trigger type throttle then follow AMG55's advice,,it works perfecly.
Rainbow..  16 points - 9/9/2011

I received yesterday This Esc but it run only 3s, it doesn't work with 5s.. Do I must pragramm 5s when it stay with 3s? I news halp please
 chrisrevv 1 points
Im having the same issue, first, after repairing a dry solder joint in mine "from factory".. 3 cell Lipo ok but anything else no go and the sub menu's in program mode just exit when throttle is returned to neutral???? frustrating..
 H1-POWER 21 points
Make sure your throttle trim is centered. Otherwise this ESC will NOT work. And, I dont knew why, mine is just working up to 4 cells!!! 5 cells it is dead no chance. Not worth the www.link
 baddevil 11 points
i can run this esc with 5s without any problem...
 Thingy123 1 points
This ESC is only rated for 4s LiPos! Read the manual.
jeremy  2 points - 8/21/2011

i am upgrading my triple motor brushed 550 motors boat to brushless. the brushless motors require an 80 amp esc. Will this work and power them on 12volt nimh batteries.
 pzchuky 5 points
you will need one speed controller fore each motor. this one will handle your motor if it is rated at 80 amps no problem but it would be a bit over kill. just watch the motor temps. and if your running brushless i would recomend lipo's a brushless motor can kill nimh packs fast and i have had some catch fire in off road trucks running brushless and nimh 12cells. i would look for a 25c 4 cell to replace your 12volt nimh pack in the 5000mah range. if your limited in space go with a smaller mah pack but with a biger C rating.

Which controller card for this regulator
 KoperBart 15 points
No programming card for this ESC i think... click TAB "files" and there U can have programming instruction... regards Bart
 AnythingRC89 26 points
I also purchased two of these one was faulty one was not, the faulty one will only run on 11.1v but not 22.2, where its healthy counterpart is not worried either way. i have since completed a warranty claim and are STILL waiting for a reply
 Thingy123 1 points
HK no longer sells a card for this ESC. You have to use your TX to program the ESC. Remember maximum input is only 4s (14.8Vdc) for this ESC.
David  1 points - 8/7/2011

it is not the same as the HK 7s 30 dollar regulator I'm on 7 s (30dollar) controller, the water-cooling (48Dollar) on it and a 5 volt fan on the other I have in my motor speedboat with leopard 4074 1500th it works good (motor ca 130A), the actual water regulator 200a hk I'm using air cooling in the buggy 4s
 tony_hobby 45 points
How is this pograma drive? I have one but it does not start in the water is very slow to boot normally?
 Thingy123 1 points
Manual has directions on how to program ESC with your TX. A fan will not work to cool this ESC because the unit is sealed to help protect it from water damage and it is set up for water cooling only.
George  11 points - 8/7/2011

Is this ESC realy 2-7S ??? Mine is working on max 4S. And do not working with 5 and 6S. Why?? Spec. Weight: 128g Size: 90x41x23mm Cells: 2-7S Li Po
 Thingy123 1 points
Yes, it is only 2s - 4s LiPo input. The programing instructions are for multiple ESCs.
Postman1990  1 points - 8/5/2011

Is this the same as the air cooled SS, but with a water heatsink and reverse? Also, can a fuel pump and a good bit of tubing suffice for liquid cooling in a car (or does HK have a radiator)?
 Rokcster 169 points
You would be better off running a car speed control with a fan. I know that it's a cheap control, but it's a pain in the___ to program, the cooling pipes are very small diameter, and by the time you add a pump& radiator you added to much weight and more components to fail. One of the best brushless car, truck ESC's is the Traxas Velineon. ROKCSTER
 Postman1990 1 points
Ok, I guess I'll stick with air cooling then. Thank you for the advice.
David  1 points - 7/31/2011

The right program for esc ss 200 a. I've added it to download (files) of the controller can only have 4s and reverse .
long time to discover this. lg david

No, this manual still doesn't fit...

please help me to use this esc please
 David 17 points
If you tell me what you need help with, I can answer specific questions. I cannot, however, write a whole manual on this ESC in this comment section. So, ask a specific question and you will get answers.
 nitzerebbs 10 points
i need different settings, especially throttle response... Maybe you write a manual and put it to the upload section... thanks
nitzerebbs  10 points - 7/4/2011

NO MANUAL !!! I CANNOT USE IT WITHOUT MANUAL !!!!!!!
 Thingy123 1 points
Here is a link to the ESC on HK's site: www.link Look under the Files tab and there is a file on how to program the ESC.
Robert  1 points - 7/1/2011

Is this speed controller suitable for a brushed motor
 Henry-Quattro 8 points
No, because a brushless motor has three poles whereas a brushed one has only two. But I´ve never tried this
Rokcster  169 points - 4/15/2011

Does anyone know where I can get the correct programming information for this ESC? Does HK make a program card for it? Thanks, Rokcster
 parabellum 7 points
Can pm you Tx programming instruction if you wish.
 parabellum 7 points
Finally was able to upload programming instruction to Files folder.(most of the time upload option does not work, strange)

Anyone know if this will suit a 3kg, 1200mm cabin cruiser with 50mm 3 blade prop and what motor to put with it?
 boostoman 315 points
it all depends how many amps the motor is pulling and what is the pitch of the blades
 boatman 1 points
Sounds like I need to identify the motor first. Thanks.
 boostoman 315 points
Once you chose the motor will. the website will give you all the details for what size ESC to use with that particular motor recommended.
 Aquabat 5 points
Is this a speed boat, is it meant to go fast or is it a motor boat type, for cruising? It doesn’t sound like a boat you would put a brushless motor and ESC, and this is a brushless ESC. If I am right you will need a seven hundred type brushed motor and a brushed motor ESC. All depending how fast you want to go, you may need gearing on the motor to cut the revs down. The ESC, I have run more then 14.8v/ 4s, through the blue 50amp ESCs you can get on eBay.
Happy1  41 points - 1/29/2011

There is no mention of reverse. The 120 Amp version has reverse, does the 200 Amp version have reverse? This would be a real deal if it does.
 Kane 9 points
Yes the 200A does have reverse.

Nice esc, but remove the cooling plate before use. I bought 2 and both had wrongly assembled cooling plates. 1.the fets that the cooling plate should cool had no contact to the plate in about 50 of them. fets had some epoxy or something like that on them and gap between fets and cooling plate.(light shined whel looked from side without the shrinkwrap) I recomennd that you block sand the fets down and the plate also so it makes good contact. be careful when installing the plate , the power/motor wires should NOT contact solder joints or it will smoke. 2.seal the water inlet/outlet well so it wont leak. (mine did not leak but were loose) 3.the programming menu does not have 30 deg. timing option for some reason. no biggie but something to know. ( this is the ss 200A air esc manual that i belive is the same as this boat esc www.link ) 4.Happy boating! -Pate (fastvee at ose forums)
