This superb Katana has been built exclusively for 3D, it features huge control surfaces and a light wing loading, the perfect recipe for some extreme aerobatics!
The build quality is quite superb and is both strong and light, the covering is expertly applied and the attractive colour scheme is ideal for orientation. The glass fiber cowl is nicely painted and is adjustable for perfect spinner alignment, the spats are also glass fiber and again nicely finished. The supplied hardware is excellent and this model offers an easy and quick build due to large amount of pre-fabrication. Wings are plug in as you would expect to make transportation easy and the large canopy is of course removable for easy Lipoly changing.
This very attractive H-King Katana offers superb performance on the reccomended set up for both the 3D pilot and the sport flyer, the "50ep" class models are popular as they fly like a large scale plane but are relatively inexpensive to build and are very practical. This Katana is the perfect all round model for the intermediate to experienced pilot it looks good, flys great, is practical and doesn't cost the earth, you couldn't ask for more!
my setup for unlimited vertical is the Turnigy L4255-500 Brushless Motor (1100w) with 15x8 3-blade wood prop, TURNIGY K-Force 100A Brushless ESC. Turnigy 4000mAh 6S 30C Lipo Pack, Carbon Fiber landing gear (20cc size), one central servo for elevator. Flight time 6 to 8 min
looks like in the 26gram size or Park size 21 to 30 gram. You are moving lots of air with a 1500mm ( 60 inch wing)I wouldn't try to skimp on the servo size as servos are cheaper than planes to replace.
Hey SpitfireQuebec - thanks for the answer, but I can't seem to find that servo. Did you mistype the product number, or is it an old product that HK no longer sell or something? Thanks.
A 4258 is too long for this plane, so a 4250 it is. With the suggested CG of 95-100mm from the leading edge, where are people setting their cg? Just trying to get a feel for how much weight needs to be added.
Thanks Kellyann for quick reply, obviously a sturdy short box, looks longer in the pix. A second question, the U/C looks like normal "bendymillium" is there a HK carbon set of UC to suit this Katana, I find there seems to be a gap in the size availability at HK of CF UC for mid size kits and it is expensive to make a mistake in ordering.
Thanks
R
Dimon good on HA!. You know most of it is boxing. I guess the larger the more packing you need. I is all good at AUS Wearhouse. It is only $13 for 7KGs. I would rather pay more postage than have a damaged bird and try to return it to HK.
F3-A Engine Anti-Vibration Mount YS91-110 (couple different sizes) Here is product on this site. It still allows some vibration but eliminates most for your EP model. Bottom line is though this model is still built specifically for EP and does not like any vibration. I have successfully used these mounts on 3 EP models with good results so far....
What kind of prop, spinner, glue, push rods and other parts do I need to order with this plane? Should I rather buy 5 or 6 cell batteries instead if a 4 cell? The Katana, which is roughly the same size has also 5/6 cell batts reccomended. thx for help, its the first Balsa plane I am buying and the first one from HK.
Sasha it is called. Mostly none. If you crash you need to learn how to do repairs. The more you do the better you get at it. So it is a win win (HA). I am a expert at crashing. I hope ths helps.
Hey, a few questions: 1. Possible: glow engine 46. Or just electric? 2. Which servo as recommended? 3. I have a 4-channel radio system that's enough? (That is registered should be 6 channels). And I wonder if possible with 4 channels
Glow engine:no
Servos:standard high speed/torque
Radio:best to get a radio with more channels and dual rates and expo for planes this size, the turnigy is great and cheap
This is interesting: The 1400mm Hobbyking Katana has an flying weight of 2250~2400 grams. And this "bigger" Katana according to description only 2000~2100grams???
Klausiii, yeah, but there other bigger & interesting mistake - the 46EP is packing 4125 g and this is over 6 kilo's (what a joke - 90g over)!!! This make it stay as dream forever...!!! ...for all small European countries.
Kalauziii recheck the specs for the 1400mm Kat and it has (with .46 engine) thus the heavier flying weight. That "may" include fuel as well as engine weight being more than an electric setup.
nice katana, can already see its weak points,2 bolts to hold the under carraige on,that will be gone on the fist landing if it comes in just a little hard, also you would need to brace the rear stabs to stop flutter and breaking them away.apart from that, great plane and a great price.nice HK
hobby king has to do something with the shipping of large aircraft, because many of us can pay for the shipping of large aircraft. in China there are other hobby on the internet that offer it, as I understand hobby king is the greatest hobby on the internet can not do. please do something for us who are willing to pay the shipping!
Answer to undercarriage question, two bolts are enough but the structure inside the plane is weak. Landed in slight water, filled the wheelcovers and ripped the undercarriga right of puncturing both wings.
Suggest to open up the belly and strengthen with plywood and epoxy.
Aluminiun UC that comes in the kit is very weak, change to carbon fibre (20cc equivilant).

hi leute,

The plane looks perfectly! The plane is covered by a film very well. The plane looks strong. Though the stabilizer could be made more strongly. Empty weight - 1640gr. Therefore the flight weight 2100gr is unreal. Full weight of a parcel - 6020gr.

I declare, After dozens of ARFs I have finally found the "Best" of the "Best". This Airplane is a work of beauty and light as a feather. I have not seen this quality of both framing and covering previously. Color me "truely impressed.
I received this in a fairly large single box and all parts were separated and packaged to prevent movement and damage. Opening the bags and laying out the parts I was impressed immediatly with the great covering job and tightness of the covering hardly ever seen in an ARF. All parts fit well and aligned properly without having to do any sanding. Cowling was beautifully painted and when installed the paint matched the fuselage perfectly. The canopy and hatch are 1 piece and fit perfectly. The landing gear and wheels and wheel pants are of very high quality. Especially the pants which have the re-inforcement already in place and is not flimsy and weak like most pants. This model was designed specifically for electric and has a large battery tray which will handle a 6 cell 4000 mah LiPo with room to spare. I chose to use my own Hacker B50 motor which is longer than the recommended motor so I had to shorten the motor box. This was an easy modification and did not present a problem.
The only negatives on this airplane is that the Stab is built up and not very strong. I believe that without bracing it would break under high load menue

Additional information for my review. My flying weight came out at 3100 grams but I used a heavier motor and 6 cell battery which added about 250 grams.

Beautiful plane, strong & light. I used the recomended MG std size servos, ( 60 gr ) and did not balanced on recomended CG, so I had to use only one servo for the stab and had to remove the rudder one and take it to the front to get it done. Litle bit of hard work to maintain the perfect covering, but it flies awsome this way. Use 5 cell and 13x6 prop. I´m over pleased with this product
