The P-40 Warhawk saw action in many theatres in WW2, including the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Pacific where it was used as both a fighter and more successfully as a ground attack aircraft. Most famously, the P-40 was used by the Chinese Flying Tiger squadron flown by US pilots, the success of this squadron against the Japanese airforce in China, even against the feared Zero, made them household names around the world.
This P-40 Warhawk is simply huge for a foam model! Being EPO, it is as tough as you would expect but at the same time, the moulded detailing is simply amazing. Despite it's size, this Warhawk should be easy to transport with it's removable 1pc wing and removable tailplane. The plastic moulded part details, like the very scale exhaust stubs, 3 blade prop/spinner, bomb cradle, .50 Cal machine guns, cockpit detail just go on and on and make for a stunning scale model.
The list of working features is equally impressive, pre-fitted split flaps, pre-fitted nagivation lights, superb twist and turn electric retracts that feature sprung legs and large rubber tires which like the retracting tailwheel, are also pre-fitted. The landing gear is linked to a sequencer for the U/C doors for that final scale touch. We have been extensively involved in the development of this stunning P-40N and the end result is a not just a scale model to be proud of but also a superb flying model that looks every bit as good in the air as on the ground. This P-40 is a must for warbird fans and is so easy to fly it is also a great choice for the intermediate pilot looking to move up in scale, as the saying goes "the bigger they are, the better they fly" and they don't fly any better than this beauty!
Features: Twist n Turn Electric Retracts with Oleo Leg's & Electric Tailwheel working Undercarriage doors linked to pre-fitted sequencer Working Navigation Lights Scale Split Flaps
Requires: Your Own 6 Channel TX/RX 4000mAh~4500mAh 6s Lipoly Battery
Sorry, but that isn't much help but I do appreciate your response. What I have done is taken an average of the control throw setting for a couple of other similar size P-40's. Then set that as my middle rate. Set my other rates a little higher and lower. The plane is finshed and ready to go. Now I just have to wait for the weather.
What is everyone using for control throws? My elevator servo binds big time when I go past 3/4 of an inch. My rudder did the same so I removed it and hinged it pin hinges giving a small gap and now moves freely. Not so easy to do this with the elevator since it cannot be removed after the model has been assembled.
Thanks
John
I just eyeballed it at around 3/4" max at set up on high rates and it proved to need less than that, more like 13-14mm after flying it a bit. Over sensitive elevator you don't want, it is very responsive. I use the outer hole on the elevator horn and the next-to-outer-hole on the servo arm. The stock servos are really dicey, I replaced those for the tail with metal geared ones.
Several found the tail control hinging way too stiff and redid with point or pinned hinges as did I. found this on rc groups hope it helps
Hi.....I had the same issue with control surface setups, which no-one could help even on HK youtube P40N.....anyway I have had 4 successful flights & can pass on to you the setup specs for your maiden flight! Ails-20mm up/down, elev-30mm u/d, rudd-35mm, flaps- pos1-20mm@5sec, pos2-50mm@5sec. I used approx 30% expo for ails, rudd & elev......these are approx based on the individual & worked for me...I havent used my dual rate settings yet. Enjoy your P40 its a real pussy cat in the air!
OK. So I am setting the model up. ESC is playing all the setup tones, however I have no instructions and have no idea what I am selecting.
Does anyone have a manual for the ESC?
I had trouble getting it to work also. I had the tones like your having. I had to reverse the throttle channel and then had a normal power up with some tones a slight prop movement during the startup. Still couldn't get it to spin the motor and had to set the throttle range. To do this turn on your transmitter and go to full throttle when you hear the foul e beep go back to idle. Then air will work. Oh yes make sure your idle is all the way down.
Hi,
This plane is enough easy to fly and stable. But if you never flew an rc plane don't begin with it, a high wing plane will be better for a first flight.
All the instructions about the CoG and other things are delivered with the plane.
I hope I helped you.
Iron Eagle
It will give you the bonus points once you purchase the plane, so you can use them on the next order, thats what happened when I got mine, infact I didnt realise about the bonus points until I checked my order.
hi all,
description says that a bunus of 29.1 credits are given if you buy this plane. I put it in my shopping cart but no credits were given. why that?
you will get the credit after you pay for the plane ( i got the credit ) you will get them as points on your acount 1 point = 1 $ which you can use in your next order Hope this helps
just got it,
is it better to use the glue that came with it or the medium viscosity ca from HK or maybe to buy the gorilla glue from the local store?
p.s. is it epo ? its seems lighter,
does anybody had the "opportunity" to check how breakeble it is ?
Yep .Put mine together all good , took a bit to get the sequencer to work (140%sub trim on gear ),didnt have any problems with servo's or such . Maiden flight was perfect almost hands free . Did roll , perfect , did loop wings snapped off.Where they put the retracts the wing is only 15mm thick foam ,with not enough glue to bond the landing gear all round to the wing the stregth of the wing is reduced by about 80% . One wing snapped at this point the retract just fell off the other . Nice one HK , AGAIN .Plane ,batterys and freight $600 to get 1/2 of 1 fly .
ive got this plane but never put it together ..what broke with you .. cause now they are saying that parts are coming..anyway let me know where are you shoping from ill have a look..
Plastic box for retracts fills a big hole in the wing and ads strenth where foam is lost . Wrong type of glue or incorect aplication meant no bonding of this box to the foam and no strenth to the wing from there out .One broke at this point ,box glue stuck to only one side , other box came out on impact clean ,no bond at all. You must decide where to shop but the net has lots of choices .
I received mine with the flap on right wing all deformed. I clamped between 2 pieces of plywood and poured hot water on top of it for 3 times, using a liter of water each time. Now it is straight.
Depending on your throttle management around 4 to 4.5 minutes with margin to abort one landing and keeping the battery from hitting low voltage levels.
So I have an question with regards to batteries and weights of the packs.
I have loads and loads of 2200mah 3s Nano-techs floating about. What I was going to do was 2x series, and then 2x parallel.
This gives me 4400mah 6s. Total weight is approx. 748g (4x 187g).
Do you think this is going to be to heavy, or will this be fine weight wise as a 4400mah Nano-tech is 687g (with higher C packs upto 763g)
It should make the balance and C of G a little easier to hit also.
Just wondering what battery most are using. I am thinking about going with a 4000 mAh 6S 20C. I want to try and keep the weight down but am wondering if a slightly heavier battery is a better match for balancing this aircraft.
Picking a good battery is not the problem. I was hoping to hear from someone who is flying this model. What battery packs fits best and best suits the model for balance. I appreiciate your input. Thanks.
John, you need a battery that has one side which is 49mm or less.
I use 5000mah/6000mah 6s 25-50c nano-tech.
4500mah 6s is a bit light and doesn't balance right.
I used 5800x6, excelent . when you put this plane together you will find that the battery does NOT fit in the battery holder as the plane is almost perfecly balanced WITH OUT the battery. The battery fits over the COG and there is LOTS of room . It wont matter what battery you use as long as it has 6s and will handle 60a. I made a lite ply box and CA'd it in .
Well I got it OK in Oz. Along with a nice FPV camera, a telemetry hub and three Rxs. Also over $30 bonus points. So ATM I am $209 out of pocket. I could sell the P-40N for that and the other goodies are free... Anyone who can't see that must be an idiot....
What shipping did you use Keeth? The cheapest I could use was "SingPost AirParcel 6kg / 7-21Days $77.43". Or are you subtracting the $30 worth of bonus points to come up with the $209. Fantastic freebie realy in every way, and with the bonus points it's almost like they're paying us to take it :-). I can't wait to get mine here.
I got the same shipping Sawdust. Total order was $239. The other choice was EMS $90 . I'm going away for a week or so (Merimbula) and don't want it till I get back...
Cracking deal - mine overall was $255 including shipping with the FREEEEEEEEBIEEEEEEEEEE (just to rub it in!!!) P-40. Without it my order would have been $186 all in. What with the additional $30 bonus point given with the FREEBIE, working the figures ... that FREEBIE P-40 cost me $42 and some pennies! No wonder some here are hacked off!!!! LOLOLOLOL!!!!
Yup - that was the deal with the P-40 retail. Still, pretty good that it still applied to the FREEBIE! Heheh!
I already have relevant spares from elsewhere from another project kicking about that will fix the problem. Bargain! Heh heh!
Put this number 189000023 in the search box half way down on the left side of any page and that lg will come up. It's not in stock at the moment unfortunately and I just found out the hard way you can't backorder it so stick it in your wish list. If anyone works out an equal or better quality drop in set please post the product ID number.
This part number 189000047 seems to be the same retracts with the extra nose gear one that you wouldn't use, at least it's in stock though for about $14 more.
You can. You need to disable ****script. If you have google chrome, piece of cake.
1.Click settings.
2.type ****script
3. Select the menu where ****script appears
4. Click disable ****script
Then just refresh the page. Sorry that I posted this so late. I didn't get this freebie either
Ahhh, no, no. If CS have said 3 months I like the sound of that much much better :-). If it hasn't come back at the end of 3 months I'll just it my mental reset button and I'll only have to wait 3 months again. MUCH better than thinking about ten months. I wonder how many time I'll be hitting that mental reset button lol.
The freebie P40 won't ship to the US. Even alone by itself with no additional weight or size, it will not ship according to HK. But if you check out the size and weight against their shipping chart, IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE SHIPPED!!! So what gives HK? Why not ship it to the US? Or at least offer the freebie from the US warehouse where you have tons of them just sitting on shelves.
They won't ship to me, period. No way No how. I was waiting for this plane to be a freebie for weeks. Based on the shipping chart-"their shipping chart" it should be eligible to ship to my address. HK's shipping policies are very unfair and poorly managed. Does anyone from HK take notice of these discussion? You are losing money and customers because of your unevenly handed policies!!!
trick is with products this size as a freebie is to load your cart to the $150 with small, light high value items. Initially I could not get it to ship to the UK but after rearranging my cart with an edf unit, two 2.4ghz rx's and a gps unit, it would ship. Odd though as my second cart was heavier than the original, but suspect it changed the shipping band up one ...
I still cannot get a 75MM Twin EDF A-10 Warthog to ship to here tho. Damn!
My mate got it to ship to Aus with some smaller high value items so the box isn't too large for aus post to handle!. Is hobby king supposed to test whether you can get it sent to each of the hundreds of countries around the world with other large items and then only offer the freebie to those countries where you can only ship it with large items????? It's usually the receiving country's postal system that won't except it not anything to do with hobby king. Also gogojoe how did you know this plane was going to be the freebie????
I didn't know for sure, but it has been offered as a freebie before, so I assumed it would be back again. I don't think the solution is to add small expensive items in order for it to ship, unless HK has their own private system in place- "This guy only ordered exactly $150.00 worth of stuff so give him the "Sorry we won't ship to you,' but this other guy ordered $400.00 worth of stuff 'Send him the big A** freebie." Besides, I tried to do what your friend did and it still didn't work. I think you are probably right that it is the Postal service where you live that will determine whether it will ship or not. At any rate I'm done with the whole thing.
Rubbish. I ordered $151 worth of bits - edf unit, gps sensor and 2.4gig receivers and cured the shipping problem to the UK. My previous cart that would not ship was nearer $220. Makes no odds how close you are to the $150 so long as it is over.
Yeah I wasnt saying you had to spend heaps. $150.01 is enough for a freebie. Also it hadn't been a freebie before that was only the ARF version, this was by far the best value freebie I've ever seen. . Maybe you should try some facts before posting.
Gogojoe ... Just to prove something to you ... Try ordering 2 of your F-14 kits at full price - how strange - those cannot be shipped either. There are size limits! Simple as that.
WTWUK
Well you see only if you purchase items that you dont need just to get a free P-40,i would rather purchase it out right than waste $150.00 to get it free.
That's ridiculous cause it is $269 outright. So therefore you'd rather pay and extra $119 for the p-40 and not get $150 worth of stuff even if you don't need it, what the?????????
siskojiuce - Those of us that are higher up the IQ scale do a bit of that basic skill called 'thinking' and loaded a cart with bits that we did need to qualify for the FREEEEEBIE P-40N.
No need to buy anything we did not need. And those that were equally as intelligent and forward looking loaded up carts with things they could easily sell on and actually make a £* or two to qualify for the FREEEEEBIE P-40N.
The maths on it was very simple. Buybthe least you could of useful stuff even if you did not need it and get the freebie. sell off the stuff on ebay - very at often a profit. If you did it you could have actually qualified and it would have more than paid for your F-14 quite quickly.
Simples.
WTWUK
yes i understand but not realy in to warbirds i was offer it as a free item when i purchased the F-14 kit so when i whent to check out it would not go' as the carton was to big anyway i manly fly jets and dont realy need this ugly looking P-40'even if it was for free .So relay with the intelegents please give it a rest and get on with you'r meningless discussions..GDAY
So after all your playpen screaming and shouting, you never wanted it anyways! Awww Bless! incidentally, I dont fly anything but helis and edf either - so my IQ being high, combined with a basic grasp of mathematics and forward thinking told me to go for it, and sell it when it arrives. That way I have got what I wanted for free, and made a profit to buy some more stuff I need for converting my Freewing Eurofighter to twin Edf units. You need to think outside of the box sometimes.
It took me a few minutes but I figured it out. They are .46 servoless retractable landing gear w/metal trunnion fixed 90 deg rotating. They sell for $29.16 and are good for models up to 3.5 kg. i have it added to mywish list....its out of stock.
Thanks john, that helped a lot, it would be realy helpfull if they actualy put them in the related products section as they mentioned. In case anyone still has problems finding them put " PRODUCT ID: 189000023" in the search box about half way down on the left of any page.
works better if you leave out "Product ID:" as then it only shows 1 item =P .. thx for posting it btw, I failed to find it.. I didn't get it though because CS didn't understand that I was credited 29.1 points but being a standard member the cost of these is $30.81 .. yes, I know its only $1.71 but thats like 5 meters of heatshrink lol .. fortunately while explaining this to CS I had the product page open in another tab and got the "one time offer" for $29.15 =D
Hi all
HK are offering this giant scale **40 For free if you spend more than $150.00 Its a load of bull **** i tried to add to cart after spending $150.00 and yes the price is $0.00 onthe total amount.
But when you go to complete checkout it wont let you continue as the total package is over the limit for shipping to Australia, they should offer 2 seperat parcels with this deal they are just a bunch of Ass Holes for even offering it for free to AU customers as they know that it will be over the limit including an F-14jet
I sapose i will have to order $150.00 worth of heat shrink so the size of the carton wont be to big..
Where the heck has the report button gone? I'm glad an ungratefull A**-hole like you was too dumb to work it out siskojuice. I've got one coming to Australia as a freebie. FU siskojuice and thank you so very much Hobbyking.
LOL, thanks WTWUK, I could tell you were thinking the same thing but were too polite to say it. As an Ozzy to an Ozzy I'm more than happy to tell a spade he's a spade lol. I'm constantly amazed at how greedy and ungratefull some people are and when it's a fellow Ozzy like that bloody idiot it realy boils my blood. BTW: I was serious about the report button, it's not showing up in the discussion section for me at the moment, if it is for anyone else please report that idiots post.
I also got it to send to Australia with some recievers, kk board and other accessories for a tricopter project. This is an amazing Freebie Hobby King, and both my brothers also got it. Thanks Hobby King
I'm just assembling mine now but i dont seem to be able to get the landing gear sequencer to work . can some one please do a diagram of the wiring as the box has no markings as to negative positive and signal. or just advice wood be good . thanks pete
HORNS, - P-40-1700 VERSUS FIRENZA....I bought both from HC and the alerons, flaps and elevarors failed prior to meiden flight. I suppose it is due to design error. I measured them and found :...moment of resistance P-40 equal 0,18 cm3 abd Firenza 1,08 cm3. .... The P-40 weight 1,7 times Firenza so considering momento of resistence and weight the Firenza horn seats is 10 times more resistante than P-40’*s. It is stupidity the HC Enginneers are not considering such elementar parametes for a safe flight. SHAME.
NOPE.. The control surfaces, say, the horn seats in control surfaces are subdimensionned. They designed the horns and its seats made of foam the same way they would do for balsa surfaces. I do not mind it anymore couse the P-40 crashed problably due to failure in the plush 60 ESC. End of discussion for me. tks
la solution trouvé*e est de forer le nez à* 0.5 plus gros quà* l'origine cela permet de recentrer le nez ... il y a encore un peu de vibration mais c'est tenable !
gallardo the only way to get this from HK is to place a request in ISSUE tab above or go to: Contacts then: Support then: raise a Ticket. I hope this helps.
Pulver the listing says ""Despite its size, this Warhawk should be easy to transport with its removable 1pc wing and removable tailplane."" I hope this helps.

Received my P40 yesterday came very well packaged and protected this is a very nice model and is big - 2 problems i have so far encountered are the 2 flap push rods are to short so they will have to be replaced-no big deal but the biggest problem i have is there was no 3 in one unit to operate the retracts and gear doors so i have a bunch of cables that i cant connect any were so i hope HK can resolve this issue for me-have opened a ticket for that. I will update my review on how it flies when i get her sorted.

My P-40 arrived couple weeks ago not untill this week i got the landing gear sequencer. The plane it self was packed really well only few bumps here and there that you can barely notice. All parts fitted well, all push rods were correct lenght and nothing was missing. Landing gear works really smoothly and looks really neat. I didn't put the bomb to the plane because is ran out of glue and i think it looks better without it.
Cons: The other flap was twisted a bit and the thin foam hinge had a crack, easy to fix. Rear landing gear and hatch servo cords were too short luckily i had couple extension wires so i got it sort out. The base spinner's center hole is too big and elliptical so it's impossible to get the propeller straight without modification. Otherwise it will shake the plane and in worst case breaks the motor or even the whole plane.
I will post short review how this beauty flies after i figure that propeller problem out.
Overall really good looking plane! I can't wait to take it to the field.

Hallo
Uwe
Well what can one say? Received this model as a freebie offer. Delivered with microscopic damage where the very corner of the split flaps/wing root trailing edge had rubbed on the packaging. 30 second fix. One servo is a bit rough, but a £4 replacement will cure that. Other than those two very minor issues, what an astounding model. Quality and fit of parts and general operation of the model is excellent. paintwork is flawless. Unfortunately I may not be able to get this one flying, as the public sports field I intended to use has this week been closed off to the public!!! But still an absolutely awesome freebie and thanks to HK big time!

We have flown this superb P-40 extensively during development and it is amazing to fly, smooth, stable and just a fantastic performer. It is easy to fly and to land, you don't need to be a seasoned Warbird pilot to fly this gorgeous WW2 fighter!
