The DFS Habicht (Hawk) was a fully aerobatic glider that was designed in Germany in 1936, in fact in the same year, 4 of these amazing looking Gliders were used to great effect in entertaining crowds attending the Olympic Games. Praise for the flying qualities of this superb and very distinctive looking gull-wing glider came from many pilots, perhaps the most famous being Hanna Reitsch.
The Hobbyking Habicht is a stunning scale glider, combining quality and beauty with excellent flight characterstics. The finish and construction of this glider are simply amazing, the supplied hardware is also of the highest quality. The model features plug in wings, secured by large screws that are knurled for hand tightening, hatches for air brakes in the upper wing, pull/pull rudder and so on. The Hobbyking Habicht offers the scale glider pilot a truly superb model that is bound to draw admiration and attention wherever it is flown.
Can someone PLEASE explain why they made a 2.4 Meter AND 2.6 meter version of this plane? What's the point? I ended up with the 2.4 Meter version because i didn't understand that the color determined the WingSpan!?! The controls discription are the same, the fuse on the 2.6 is longer which for such a small difference in W.S. doesn't make much sense. It just makes me wonder about the design intent of the two sizes or are they really two versions of the same plane with one being more scale or slope orientated or ???
Out of the box i think the plane (2.4 meter version) looks pretty nice. I think the design of the elevator linkage is questionable over the long term. PLEASE USE LOCK TITE for this if you stick to the original design.
PS
Below someone talks about needing lots of nose weight. This is VERY TYPICAL for SCALE gliders. This is because they have a short nose due to them being designed to have the weight of a human sitting up front. The more liberty you take by streching the nose to keep the balance weight low, the more you will loose the Scale lines of the orginal design.
Dear all, I bought this bird, but there is no assembling manual. The file tag is empty. Does anybody have a scanned manual/file/whatsoever...Thank you in advance
Michele
Look at the pictures, you can see, it has a fibreglass fuselage and a Balsa-WIng. The wing seems to be completly covered by balsa, but it is also possible that parts are only covered by film.
The weight of 3 Kilogram for a 2,6m-model show, it is no foamy...
"Habicht Fiberglass Glider 2600mm (ARF)" Not a lot of detail , between the name and what you can see in the pictures it shouldn't be too hard to work it out.
ronljroy the body is fiber class with ply stiffeners and the wing is balsa with iron on film covering. You should down load the manual from the FILES tab above before you buy. It is only 2mg and a good read. I hope this helps. Very nice bird.
It will be no problem to add a motor to this glider, but you will need a big one, something that can create a thrust of 2 Kilo or better more, you will have problems to achieve this with three cells, and of course it looks awful ... :)
Your not hearing me gents. This model is way to heavy, you will only be disappointed. Yes I own one that is the same marketed by CMpro. 4kg all up weight!
*Rowdy: The DFS Habicht was an aerobatic sailplane, so its weight should be nor problem, it is not sailplane to go for thermals. It will do a good job for ridge soaring with lots of wind.
Rowdy. In the specs it says 3kg FLYING WEIGHT. I know the other silly bit down lower says airframe weight but on every model I can remember seeing it always shows the same weight as in the specs whether that weight is dry weight or flying weight and it always says airframe weight down there so ignore that thing.
Thanks, like I have said, mine, which I own weighs 4.2KG same as Danielle. I am not arguing just stating the facts thanks. It is heavy but still flies.
