Habicht Fiberglass Glider 2600mm (ARF)

Habicht Fiberglass Glider 2600mm (ARF)
Habicht Fiberglass Glider 2600mm (ARF)

The DFS Habicht (Hawk) was a fully aerobatic glider that was designed in Germany in 1936, in fact in the same year, 4 of these amazing looking Gliders were used to great effect in entertaining crowds attending the Olympic Games. Praise for the flying qualities of this superb and very distinctive looking gull-wing glider came from many pilots, perhaps the most famous being Hanna Reitsch.

The Hobbyking Habicht is a stunning scale glider, combining quality and beauty with excellent flight characterstics. The finish and construction of this glider are simply amazing, the supplied hardware is also of the highest quality. The model features plug in wings, secured by large screws that are knurled for hand tightening, hatches for air brakes in the upper wing, pull/pull rudder and so on. The Hobbyking Habicht offers the scale glider pilot a truly superb model that is bound to draw admiration and attention wherever it is flown.

Can someone PLEASE explain why they made a 2.4 Meter AND 2.6 meter version of this plane? What's the point? I ended up with the 2.4 Meter version because i didn't understand that the color determined the WingSpan!?! The controls discription are the same, the fuse on the 2.6 is longer which for such a small difference in W.S. doesn't make much sense. It just makes me wonder about the design intent of the two sizes or are they really two versions of the same plane with one being more scale or slope orientated or ???

Out of the box i think the plane (2.4 meter version) looks pretty nice. I think the design of the elevator linkage is questionable over the long term. PLEASE USE LOCK TITE for this if you stick to the original design.

PS

Below someone talks about needing lots of nose weight. This is VERY TYPICAL for SCALE gliders. This is because they have a short nose due to them being designed to have the weight of a human sitting up front. The more liberty you take by streching the nose to keep the balance weight low, the more you will loose the Scale lines of the orginal design.

What material is used for construction? Foam? Balsa? Fibreglass? Papier Mache? Not a lot of detail in description.
 Luca 56 points
it seems to be the same project ad Windrider's one; if so, it's fiberglass hull and balsa wings www.link
 hwagener 243 points
Look at the pictures, you can see, it has a fibreglass fuselage and a Balsa-WIng. The wing seems to be completly covered by balsa, but it is also possible that parts are only covered by film. The weight of 3 Kilogram for a 2,6m-model show, it is no foamy...
 Sawdust 1632 points
"Habicht Fiberglass Glider 2600mm (ARF)" Not a lot of detail , between the name and what you can see in the pictures it shouldn't be too hard to work it out.
 Kellyann 16236 points
ronljroy the body is fiber class with ply stiffeners and the wing is balsa with iron on film covering. You should down load the manual from the FILES tab above before you buy. It is only 2mg and a good read. I hope this helps. Very nice bird.

CLOUDBURNER
 halcon 1470 points
steel rod 11 mm, you can change it for 11 mm CFK = -200 gr.
 Kellyann 16236 points
Tom the manual is above under the FILES tab. You should have a look. I does show it all. I hope this helps.

Snap a Habicht up while they are in stock - from when they first appeared on 23 June I've been waiting
 Rowdy 24 points
Way to heavy 3 kG and needs 1 KG of lead in the nose to balance. 4KG at 2600mm span, it is a sled.
 Shadow00 96 points
If Art Tech can add a motor to the minimoa, don't see why they cant add one to this
 Rowdy 24 points
Seriously save your money on this one, I own one it is is 4.2KG. Yes it does fly in a gale of the slope but get something else.
 Shadow00 96 points
I know a fine place to fly this bird...the Grand Canyon ...yay
 HobbyKing_Admin 8873 points
How can you own this when we just finished making it? This is not a model hextronik has purchased elsewhere.
 AndyL 53 points
Are the wings fiberglass or built up? At this price it would be an incredible value if glass.
 Sawdust 1632 points
AndyL, look at the fourth picture.
 Luca 56 points
*AndyL: Hope wings are balsa, much better for an oldtimer reproduction :)
 Sawdust 1632 points
Luca, as I wrote above "LOOK AT THE FOURTH PICTURE"
 AndyL 53 points
Sawdust, thanks.
 hwagener 243 points
It will be no problem to add a motor to this glider, but you will need a big one, something that can create a thrust of 2 Kilo or better more, you will have problems to achieve this with three cells, and of course it looks awful ... :)
 Rowdy 24 points
Your not hearing me gents. This model is way to heavy, you will only be disappointed. Yes I own one that is the same marketed by CMpro. 4kg all up weight!
 hwagener 243 points
*Rowdy: The DFS Habicht was an aerobatic sailplane, so its weight should be nor problem, it is not sailplane to go for thermals. It will do a good job for ridge soaring with lots of wind.
 HobbyKing_Admin 8873 points
Rowdy, WE MAKE THIS! This is not the cmpro model which we will also have here in a few weeks and has been improved with an ultra light plastic fuse.
 Rowdy 24 points
No worries, glad you got the new light weight version down to 3KG!! before the model is balanced and no gear.
 Daniele72 35 points
Ottimo modello, il mio pesa kg 3,950 e vola veramente bene in tutte le condizioni.
 Sawdust 1632 points
Rowdy. In the specs it says 3kg FLYING WEIGHT.
I know the other silly bit down lower says airframe weight but on every model I can remember seeing it always shows the same weight as in the specs whether that weight is dry weight or flying weight and it always says airframe weight down there so ignore that thing.
 Daniele72 35 points
il mio in ordine di volo pesa 3,950 kg, e va' molto molto bene.
 Luca 56 points
I just translate Daniele's post (ciao daniele) Mine is 3,950 kh AUW and flies really well. www.link
 Rowdy 24 points
Thanks, like I have said, mine, which I own weighs 4.2KG same as Danielle. I am not arguing just stating the facts thanks. It is heavy but still flies.
 strato-cruiser 28 points
OK HobbyKing, when will it be available in the blue and white scheme? Then I will 'add to cart'
 Gabriele 1 points
no one can tell me where is the CG in this bird? thank you
 Daniele72 35 points
Ciao , CG a 95/100mm.
 Gabriele 1 points
Thank you very much Daniele..è* che sto facendo questo modello per copiare il fauvel e mi serviva un CG preciso!
