Putting aside the silly name and the fact that it's bounced off a few branches of the ugly tree, the Skywalker is a large, cheap, tough EPO FPV platform kit that allows the builder to choose an equally cheap power train and some suitable value for money RC equipment from your favourite Hobby Emporium.....Hobbyking.
This is to all intents and purposes a kit, so a little building experience will be required, but not much, it's fairly simple. Being an FPV platform, the configuration is the usual high lift wing, pusher prop, boom fuselage and if you fancy dipping a toe into FPV then this kit may be for you, especially with one of our excellent low cost FPV set ups.

Excellent kit. mine arrived after 2 weeks. the glue worked fine but only got 1 tube insted of 2 as in picture, and manual is downloaded from file tab. it fits well here and there. we have to order and fit in all fpv stuff before we put together the 2 halves. for more stable flight we should order also additional 2 extension cable for ailerons, and cut the flap for smoother landings.. going to maiden maybe tomorrow and will put video somehow here.. *-)
Hi, I am trying to figure out which electric RC plane has the longest range.
I am building an autonomous plane based on APM 2.5 and I would like to be able to make it fly as far as possible, the payload will include a GoPro and the APM so gliders are generally not desingned for such weight.
This Skywalker seems in the top list.
Any suggestion is welcome...
for one almost any rc plane can go as far as you can see, provided you got a good tx and rx that can extend further. using apm we can go as far as our battery can power the plane and bring it back, through waypoint. again range is associated with tx/rx and FC not the plane. and yes this plane and any other can go further as you want with your FC
Hi, Im a complete RC noob and have foolishly? dived in with a Skywalker 1680, and after a disastrous maiden (entirely operator error), ive rebuilt and not been put off enjoying it more if possible. What do hinges would be suitable for the Skywalker?
I use CA hinges (with foamsafe CA) on mine. it's hard to use tape because of the bevel on the control sufaces though if your carful it can be done... the fiberglass packing tape merseyless suggested would do good, there is also hinge tape... you can also use unperferated clear vinyl bandage tape available from a pharmacy.
aggreed with Gary, if need covering/trim stickers it will include too. the servo, motor,esc, lipo, prop usually comes as combo offer. if RTF, PNF then everything included. but still need to charge the lipo before fly
No problem, I would also recommend looking at the NTM Prop Drive 35 Series Accessory Pack (PRODUCT ID: NTM35-ACC) if you want a good way to mount the motor.
genrlst have a look under Hardware & accessories. > Screws/Bolts/Nuts There are many many screws there. If you do not want to pay for it then try pulling something apart. IE: an old CDROM. I hope this helps
I agree with KellyAnn, I have pulled apart many old and outdated electronics (gotten for free) they often have a lot of very usedfull screws and stuff in metric thread that a lot of RC's use

Yes bigger may not be better, but if the glide ratio is increased then it could lead to better endurance. It all depends on the mission objective which differs for different people.
so my skywalker came with most of the glue spilt. I'm looking for a replacement glue to use to finish off the job. I'm considering 5 minute epoxy. Any suggestions?
genrlst both have good ideas. But FOAM SAFE CA is very brittle. I us Hot Glue (i know it is heavy) sparingly. I have the advantage that it can be reactivated with heat. So you can remove it for repairs. I does work. I hope this helps.
I don't understand why this plane is no longer available. The Skywalker model is awesome and very popular in the FPV world. The "newer" product described is not newer, it's just a different plane not related to the Skywalker in any way except its designed for FPV.

I was about to start RC modeling with this plane. I tried to order it yesterday but it wasn't available anymore.
I'm really disappointed because I haven't found any suitable replacement.
I've looked at the fpv raptor, but I don't like the motor mounting on it (size limited...).
The EPP is a joke, no room in the belly, hard to balance the CG...

The Item is on backorder but it is still listed. You just have to wait when the new stock arrives. This is my favorite FPV plane, too. You should be able to order it, but it will take some more weeks to be delivered.

Guys, this is my first time building. Do I need a Y-connector for my ailerons? I'm using the turnigy 9x radio. If I do need one, can I build it(they're on back order here) ?
genrlst no you can just mix it in. I use channel 6 and just mix. You can also mix in Flaps too if you do that. Not that she needs flaps. I hope this helps.
Hi, I heard of some people with the same problem. Thats why they installed more fiber in the wing since Version 3. I fly V2 and did tape the lower side of the wings with gfk-tape which makes the wings a bit more stiff. This plane is not made for Acrobatics, so if you fly cozy it should not happen again.
1 Wash the Expanded Polyolefin foam with soap, using rags. Don't use a chemical cleanser on EPO, or you may damage the foam* instead, use a water-based cleanser. 2 Rinse the Expanded Polyolefin foam with wet rags. Leave no soapy residue behind, or primer adhesion will prove poor. Let the EPO dry for two hours.
3 Cover surfaces adjacent to the Expanded Polyolefin foam, using masking paper. Fasten the paper in place, using nothing else but a low-tack professional painter's tape. Don't use other types of tape, or traces of adhesive may stay behind after removal. 4 Cover surfaces under the Expanded Polyolefin foam with drop cloths. Avoid plastic drop cloths which will allow wet spray paint overspray to pool. 5 Coat the EPO with a water-based latex spray primer. Encourage slick results by maintaining approximately eight inches between the Expanded Polyolefin foam and spray tip. Let the EPO dry for two hours. 6 Coat the EPO with a water-based latex spray paint or acrylic spray enamel. EPO is an acronym for Expanded Polyolefin. This material is typically used in new construction as a flame retardant, although it is also sometimes used to create components of radio-controlled lightweight airplanes and is most known for its use in self-skinned footwear, such as Crocs. Regardless of its uses, EPO has one important characteristic that applies to painting: it is easily damaged by petroleum-based paint. To generate a lasting finish that won't damage the underlying Expanded Polyolefin, use a water-based paint.
You have to install the ends of the RC-2.4Ghz RX-Antennas outside of the fuselage. They should always have "optical contact" to your RC-TX on the ground to get the best range. The VideoTX should be placed outside as far away as possible from the other electronics.
People keep saying it's version 3, 4 and 5. Can anyone from HobbyKing verify what version this is? I would buy it if it's version 5. So please, can anyone tell us the version! :-)
The problem is that, a customer that wants to buy this product has no idea what version it is. Even though it's not V5 I would like to know if it's V2, V3 or V4 for the reason that I might buy it if it's V4 or V5.
It would be good if HobbyKing would put the version number on this product so that customers will know without doubt.
Ok. Fare enough. I thoughf people were gagging for v5. The build I have has CF rods embedded in the wings as well as having 2 CF tubes to connect the wings. The tail has another CF tube. The little blue booklet says v3 and the fuse moulding says 2010
All the old versions V1~V4 have two holes for Carbon rods, but V5 only have one hole.IN THE WINGS AND All the old versions V1~V4 have the removable CR holders, but V5 canceled it.
How do you know which version it is? Mine has 3 carbon tubes included in set (for wing and fuselage). Inside wing I can see two more carbon rods, one on each side.
the new version (5) has 1 carbon tubes in the wing,have a reiforced tail and 2 carbon rods in the wing too bigger as version 3.

La versione è la 3! Quindi non è il modello nuovo. Su fpv hobby si trova la v5 a meno prezzo. Nella scatola mancano i tubi in carbonio e la coda risulta danneggiata,perchè è stato imballato da cani! Se torno indietro mai più comprerei questo modello da hk.
Ragazzi,lasciate perdere e comprate altrove.

great plane the foam is really nice and dence and strong loads of space for a high payload capasity. i had fpv gear a go pro and 5000mah 3 cell in it with all metal gear servos and flaps
maden was windy 15 mph but the plane just lifted of my hand no problem and went down wind and came around for full throtle low pass and came pass and just pulled up and the wing folded and the thing plumeted to the ground go pro first .
i was so mad as it was the first flight but when to inspect it the go pro was still recording and the majority of the plane was fine the battary compartment had split each side but nothing a bit of glue wont fix .
other than that the plane is amazing just some tape on the wing fixed the problem and flyes great getting anouther for sure nice plane well recomended
