Ok finally I have found a forum that has some light on my flap problem.

I have followed Ian's suggestion to the 'T' and I still can't get it to work with the 3 position switch. When I use the Aux channels to work the flaps it still isn't being controlled by the 3 position switch. The flaps just move with all the trim knobs instead. For some reason no matter what I do I can't get the three position switch to work like it is supposed to. Before I found about the mixing settings I used the Airbrake setting and I got it to work but with only one position on the switch. The middle position. The top and bottom raised the flaps back to neutral.

Is there a problem with my radio or a problem with the programmer?

Hi guys,
I've read through all the posts here but I'm non the wiser. I've got a Mode2 Turnigy 9X V2 and I'm trying to set the flaps option on my Durafly Trojan. I've mangaged to get the flaps to move up and down from the throttle hold sw on the rear left corner of the radio but each time this happens the elevators move up???? I can seem to get the Flaps onto the three position switch nor can I mix in a bit of down elevator with falp movement

Help please
Regards

Hi Bart64,

Remember you must use a 8ch rx with the program I posted and to activate the appropriate channels as per my instructions. I have 3 stage flaps as well as landing gear on my bonanza so it is doeable. Perhaps to get you going just use the servo position screen on the tx and program as per my earlier instructions and watch channel 7 servo position to see what is happening. You may have to change the dnrate number in my program to suit your servos.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Ian

It could be a mechanical problem with your radio. I have installed the DHT telemetry module and have flashed to the ER9X. I still have problems with my Gear switch. One side of it is hooked up to the trainer switch. Since I have the ER9X I can assign switches so I signed the gear to the dual rate rudder switch. Which is ok anyway because I would rather have my gear switch on the left side of the radio. You have to remember it is a $60.00 radio. Just like I have a brown wire that is attached to the resistors on the circuit board when you take the two halves apart. These are just little inconveniences. Get your module changed and flash the ER9X and you won't believe the differences. I have been a Futaba die hard since they came out in the seventies and never thought I would change. Not only have I changed to a $60.00 dollar radio that now has more power than any Futaba that I have ever had, I have changed from 72MHZ to 2.4 GHZ. This is my first 2.4 radio after 40 years of flying R/C. Do a little more research and you won't believe what you can do with this radio. Any questions feel free to ask. Loran

Ian clearly has a firm grip on the operation of this challenging but often feisty little transmitter.

Ian, could you explain in some detail the PROGRAM MIX option for an old fart who just isn't understanding the logic behind programming the Turnigy 9x V2 with stock firmware.

I have somehow managed to program my 9x to control my Dynam T-28 to operate the retractable gear using the gear switch on ch5, flaps on ch6 using the pit trim (aux2) potentiometer, and lights to run an HK multiswitch on ch7. To do this I

1) put the Thro Hold menu option to ACT
2) set the Aux-CH menu option for
   a. Ch5 to GEAR
   b. Ch6 to Pit Trim
   c. Ch7 to Thro Hold

This was the only way I could get all three extra functions to work.

I do get the ability for infinite control of flaps using the potentiometer, but I'm not a good enough flyer to concentrate on flap adjustment and keep the plane from going off course (crashing) at the same time. I would like to program the Aux3 switch for steps of flap deployment, but I need more than a menu, I want to understand the logic of what I'm doing.

Could you explain each of the options in this menu on a basic level (what does Mix1 really do, etc), and the suboptions:
STATE
MASTER
SLAVE
OFFSET
UPRATE
DNRATE
SW

MASTER:
AIL
ELE
THR
RUD
GYR
FLP
AUX(1)
AUX(2)

and for SW
ID1 (what is it? Is this a physical switch)
NOR
ID2
ON
OFF

I know this is a big request, but you are the only guy I've run into that seems to understand this programming stuff and is able to explain it in a way I understand.

Appreciate your effort!

VJ

Hey VJ, long time no hear! While I have switched to the ER9X firmware, I think I can remember some things about the stock version. As for what the different mix functions are:

"state" refers to whether or not the mix is turned on, or "active"
"master" refers to the channel that is going to "control" the slave channel
"slave" refers to the channel being controlled by the master
"offset" refers to the applied difference from master to slave
"uprate/downrate" refers to percentage of the master channel, applied to the slave channel(you can have different percentages for both directions of the servo, or whatever you are controlling)
"sw" refers to the 3 position switch's position to activate the mix, or plain on or off

The sub menu for "Master" refers to which channel you want to use as the master (the slave channel will "follow" the master, and can be made to work opposite, or at a percentage of the master by by adjusting the positive/negative percentages of the mix(uprate/downrate), and the offset)

The "SW" sub menu refers to the position of the 3-position switch, or on/off. If I recall, "normal" is all the way up, "ID1" is middle, and "ID2" is all the way down( I may be wrong, but its easy to check).

To get the 3-postion switch to work the way you want it to, you will need to first "turn on", an unused channel, by assigning it to a switch (I'm guessing you still have channel 8 available).
Next, got to the mix menu and create a mix choosing "act" as the state, channel 8 as the "master", channel 6 as the "slave". The next setting to adjust will be "downrate", the tricky part is whether or not your servos will need positive, or negative. Start will a low number(10 maybe), and set the "sw" option to "ID1".
Now would be a good time to fire up your plane, and test the mix. Flip the switch to the middle position, and verify the flaps are moving, and in the correct direction. If not, reverse channel 8. Once you have got it correct, head back to the mix menu(after powering down the plane, of course)

You will need to adjust the downrate, on the mix you just created to get the desired amount of flap deflection for the middle, or "half" position.
Next, create a new mix, same as the last, except the downrate will be set to the desired "full flaps" percentage, and the "sw" option will be "ID2".
I would refrain from using a dial as an option, when assigning channel 8 as the dial can get moved without you knowing, and cause some grief. As a note, if you happen to flip the switch you assign channel 8 to, the flaps will try to work in reverse, so....DON'T DO THAT!

To the best of my recollection, this should work but feel free to hit me up if any issues.

Jeff

Wow! By George, I think I've got it! Thanks Jeff.

You're step by step instructions were very clear. Now I've got to put myself through those steps with the transmitter and see if I understand as clearly as I think I do.

Part of my problem was that I never "got" that the Normal, ID1, and ID2 referred to the 3 switch positions on the switch labeled Aux.3 on the transmitter, though I see clearly now that I should have made this association.

Thanks for the PM on this to notify me that you left these instructions. Though my little box "Email Notify me of Replies" is checked, I don't recall receiving any automatic notifications of new messages on this thread.

VJ
