Hi all!
Just looking for some advise - I have a Miss Vegas nitro boat and after converting my trucks to electric, I've decided to convert the boat as well.
What would be the best ESC / Motor / Prop combo from Hobbyking to use. Also should I run my Turnigy 2x 2s 5000mah lipos or up the voltage to 2x 3s?
Thanks for any help Smile

This could be an interesting option. The amp draw seems right on the money and good size.
Might be just a touch too hot in the4 KV department and I also can't be sure hols line up but they should.
This little beast will also make a fine choice, if you like running bigger prop maybe this as well.
Another choice is this.
Make sure to search eBay or offshoreelectrics for a water-cooling jacket to fit the motors.

If you want ala-cheapo esc this is it, but after you try this little baby, you will never go back.
The throttle response is so smooth, baby bottom would be rough compare to this.
No matter what ESC you go with, use UBEC, it is a must. Enough ppl lost their $80-$300 esc becasue they did not want to spend $5 on a ubec.

Make sure to stick with 5.5mm bullet connectors for the motor and lipos.
My personal choice for lipos would be a pair of 5800 2s in series for a nice 4s setup and this will allow you to balance the boat. In my Miss Elam I stick on on either side and it works well.
But your lipos will works just fine. I'm not sure what C rating are yours, but boats LOVE high C rated batteries. Stay away from HX60/Deans/EC3 connectors, they tend to melt under the loads the boats puts it through (don't ask me how I know).

Thanks so much for the reply!

Definately decided on using the Turnigy Marine 180 amp ESC.

Motor choice - was hoping to have one with a built in cooling jacket like this one http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5146
or maybe this

Starting with stock prop and my existing batteries.

Thanks again for all assistance Big smile

the 2nd motor is 3s only, the 1st is 3s as well, but is will not have enough power to get your boat screaming fast. Only 475 watts rated, you need about double to make that boat fun :)
1800kv-2200kv is the desired KV rating for a 4s lipo setup.
Ducted fan (EDF) motors make for a good candidates. It is super easy to slide the water jacket on the motor.

You might also consider the freshly released 'red' 1/8 class motor series from HK (2600kv, 4S rated, 2kW (max, continuous should be about 1,5kW) output power, weight about 350 grams).

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14632

The new motor is 6 pole, comparing the the old duced fan pink ones which are 2poles. In buggies it makes a difference because 2 pole gets hot easily, while even 4 pole (hobbywing motor) is cool.

I am not sure how does it translate to the boats, but I bet it's still better to have more efficient motor, right? ;-)

That is exactly why I suggested that motor in my 1st post, but it still has a bit too high of KV for a 4s setup and the size is odd so getting a cooling jacket for it might not be easy unless it fits castle creation jackets or leopard or if one knows how to make your own.

Just want to say a big thanks for the advise guys!

Went with the Turnigy 180a ESC and 1800kv motor (hobbywing water jacket). Was as fast as the stock nitro on 2s.

4s is insane!!!!  Big smile

Recommend this set up to anyone wanting to convert - no more mid lake stalls
