Hello Hobbyking.
Gonna build me a boat in wood, Smit Rotterdam from Billingboats i Denmark.
It's a tug boat whit 2 propellers and bowtruster. Do you know if there are some kinds of gears to use 1 engine and 2 outgoing connetions for the propellers or do I need to use 2 engines?
(see:  http://www.billingboats.com/478.htm  )
I want a 6 channel radio( maybe 4 if it's extensible ) ( 3 ch for props. rudder and bowtruster and maybe some if I want to ekstend whit other things )
_*BUT*_ i dont know what kind of electric motor/s whit engine mounts( Power/rpm's), servos, battriepack & charger( fits for norway? ) and so on and so on.
( Many years since last time I played whit this tings. he he )
Can you please give me some direktions/list of what to use when I'm ordering from you? And maybe total price shipped to Norway?
Maybe 2 or 3 different packs?
I need help to match everything.
Thankful for any help.
Regards
Kolbjørn

Unfortunately Bjorn, this isn't a good forum for such questions. Cry

HobbyKing either can or will answer.

You have to try different other forums or boat clubs.

Try to Google "model boats"!

Billing Boats doesn't help you much, do they? I'm not very impressed by that company.

Graupner has a lot of boat stuff, and so do Robbe.

Your project is not the easiest one to start with and to choose brushless it is even a bit trickier.

I would build the hull first and then see what could be done.

Regards

Malfamartin

Seems to me I've seen the inside of this boat elsewhere and it ran with 2 motors,If you go brushless you'll need 2 motors and 2 esc's .....

You might ask here _____>>>>>> http://www.rcgroups.com/scale-boats-55/

Good Luck on an ambitious project

Yes the Smit Rotterdam is quite a complicated first project. Id' say better to start with something simpler and less complex in it's construction.
Billings makes some mighty fine kits, and they have one which I think would be a better start for you and that would be the "White Star". Try that, and then go on to something bigger and more complex.

I myself have wanted to do the Billings "Calypso" for a long time now, but the way I wish to do it its gonna be quite complex, and with many functions and lighting. So im thinking of going for a smaller cabin cruiser, one made by Krick. The Lisa M. A very beautiful cabin cruiser. And a much smaller price as well, and I can complete it in a shorter time frame.

Billing Boat is sold to Robbe, which hopefully makes the kits better in the future. Developing the kits have not been a big issue at Billings. Instead of giving the builder good information, he is left alone for own improvements and solutions.
Of course you don't need 2 motors, but it is probably the easiest way out. And you don't need 2 ESC, but it is simpler with two.
You can't be the first one to build this boat so I recommend you to search in other forums as well.
This is a motor/shaft I have used myself. Nice bruschless watercooled one.

If you use a low KV motor, then you won't need gears. Look for something of 750kv or lower, and run it with the minimum battery voltage. Most ESCs should run fine off a charged 12 volt lead acid battery, which would weight your boat well, and give you a long running time.

Here's what I'd use:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6943&Product_Name=TURNIGY_Bell_TR2410-12_600kv_Outrunner
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6460&Product_Name=Hobbyking_SS_Series_25-30A_ESC
Also, see if you can use a prop shaft that fits snugly right through the motor bearings and end bell, then you won't need a coupling !

I agree with previous replies. Smit Rotterdam is not an easy model to start. If the model has two propellers, I suggest to use two engines, in parallel, and one esc with the sum of two Amp, or two esc, one for each engine.

Hi, kolunga,
I'm sorry for the delay in replying, but only today I've seen your post.
The reply to your question is : yes, I build model boats since many years. Like many modelists I stopped my activity for many years and now I restarted it.  I build mainly scale models starting from factory plans, and recently I finished a Grand Banks 36' trawler and an hydrografic ship of Italian Navy " Ammiraglio Magnaghi". Now I'll try to put some pictures of them, to show you. As soon as I'll put the pictures, I'll give you the link address.
Bye
