Distance between firewall and leading edge of the cowling is around 146mm:

This is a lot for an electric motor. HK proposes the RotoMax 1.60, which has a length of just 58mm.

For my tiny brushless motor this means I need 72mm clearance.
My first atempt is to use simple aluminum spacers:

I will see if this works, or if I get any problems with vibrations...

Great thread and pictures - well done. Just bought one and have a couple of questions...

a) Whilst one stab has a hole for the elevator servo - the other has a blank wooden plate over the hole as if only one servo were needed??? - I assume you put one in each stabiliser for each elevator side - if not how could you get the other side to work - did you cut the plate away - and fit a second servo in the other stabiliser - its not obvious.
b) Using the Turnigy 1.4 Rotomax which is about 8cm short of the cowl opening (definately NOT plug and play as suggested!) - interested to see your mount and know if you get any vibrations.
c) If you dont put a push pull in - and since they dont give you one I assume they dont think you need one - where on earth do you put the rudder sero - cannot find a slot anywhere Thought your solution was a good one.

I am putting bigger wheels on - 3 inch - as running off long grass and am forgetting about the spats as they fill with the stuff.
Let us all know where you end up with the C of G .

Thanks for the thread

Hi Cobham,

at my MX2 both horizontal stabilizers are prepared for servos:
they had the big holes for the servos and even the small ones for the screws.
I recommmend to use lighter servos for the horizontal stabilizers to get the right CoG. (and the control surfaces are not that huge as of the ailerons...)

The original position for the rudder servo is right below the holes for the stabilizer on the left side:

I have now an all up weight of around 5.7 kg and for the maiden flight I will add 150g at the firewall to keep the CoG on the safe side.
(your motor is 60g heavier)

Canopy locking is done by a 2mm pianowire:

The wire which came with the kit was a bit thinner.

To find the right positions for the fixing holes for the cowling, I used cardboard straps (tip of a Sebart manual):

After aligning the cowling with the spinner, I can drill the holes:

I don't know, if the fixing of the landing gear mounting plate is stable enough? (do you remember our potatoe-field runway?)
I drilled 2 holes and epoxied 8mm carbon tubes to it to support the landing gear by the next 2 formers (this is similar to the Precision Aerobatics planes):

With my Sebart planes, I had some bad experience with the landing gear mounting plate!

Here is a view on the carbon tubes from the backside:

I don't know if it's neccessary or helps anything, but at least it will calm down my nerves.

This and some epoxy at battery tray and motor mount adds 25g to my MX2.

I use green Multiplex connectors for the ailerons:

A 2mm carbon rod is used to support each other.

Receiver position is not optimal yet (due to cables and carbon) and it's a lot of cabeling for a simple plane.
