I recently purchased a Miss Geico and I want to upgrade the esc. Would this work well with my setup because I want to run twin 3S lipo's on it
Andrew  1 points - 3/22/2013

I already have the aquastar 120 with programming card (Product ID 9052000008). I like that ESC and need a couple more for my new boats, but I don't want to buy the bundle with another programming card (and pay the extra for a spare card). Will this esc work with that programming card?
 zeeek1 514 points
no it will not. This is a Hifei or Swordfish 120 esc. you must use a proper program card and not the same as the other named Aquastar 120. This is a better esc.
crashman68  34 points - 2/11/2013

can this be used in a plane if theres sufficient cooling ?? i mean we dont water cool the esc in our planes ?? i know this is inside a closed sealed area, but is that the reason for the need for water cooling ??
Michael  1 points - 10/26/2012

I purchased a Princess rc boat 18959, and it recommends a 125A watercooled ESC. Can I use a 120A safely or not. I particularly want one with BEC.
 H-KING_SCOTT 5161 points
It will most probably be ok but it will have to be your choice. You could take a look at the Turnigy 180amp TR-M-180A which has a BEC,it is dearer unfortunately but would be very safe.

Please, use the programming card to the controller? Product ID:
 Andrew 1 points
Per my conversation with CS, the programming card from 9052000008 will work. As should 9192000073 and TPROG-BOX.

Does anyone have the details of TX programming?
I've downloaded a manual but it only shows what can be changed, not how to change by TX.
 Jeroenstream 38 points
We suggest customers to not program the esc with their Tx

Im thinking of upgrading my impulse 26 to brushless with this but idk what else would work with it. please help if you have done a similar project

What is the difference between the Marine 120A and the AquaStar 120A ESCs?
 karolpenconek 616 points
Aquastar is bigger and stronger. Also heavier. Anyway Aquastar have fast start option (good for racing).
 LiPo Power 15 points
size and weight mainly, very good esc
dhaksh  1 points - 5/12/2011

can i use this in small bolt boat
 Giovanni 5 points
Sure! You can use it for boats up to 1 meter in length, with up to 2000kv brushless and lipo 6 in series without any problem, according to the propeller speed control is mounted by a 40 to 48mm in diameter.Excellent value for money.
Yours sincerely,
Giovanni
 LiPo Power 15 points
how small will the boat be?
if you have room inside for it, why not...
ruku56021  44 points - 8/24/2010

Does this have any connectors already pre-soldered to the battery or motor connections ??
 Kane 9 points
No not to either end you will have to do that when it arrives cheers.
 ben006 17 points
no, you have to solder it !
 Ignacio 77 points
No it comes on bare wires

i Hope i can use 2 of thise 2848SL 3900kv Brushless Inrunner (WaterCooled) motors at the same time on this regulator?
 yoggi 81 points
You would better run 2 60A ESC with 1 per motor and a Y cable connector to your receiver
DIMITRIOS  46 points - 3/30/2010

Is there a HV240 version? That will be very nice
 yoggi 81 points
no 240A version yet the Turnigy 180A is a great ESC for high Ampere
 dino7 15 points
when for 240HV?
 DIMITRIOS 46 points
the Turnigy 180A is great but for only 6s.
The HV240 is for 12s 240A, big difference and veeery good esc

I recived my 120a aquastar and usb linker with no instructions or no driver disk. How can I get to download these two files. It was supplied in a plain ziplok bag with no instructions, disk or anything. Tried manufacturers website with no luck, also tried instant msg help on this site and ended up #42 in the queue for service. HELP!
 eXraycer 15 points
OK I found the files I needed on the 'Files' tab above. Guess I expected my hand held a bit more. Still not impressed with the experience. IMO, they gotta finish the product by giving people the instructions on paper, drivers on disks and not supply quality electronics in blinkin' lunch bags. A bit too cheap that's all. It's worth the extra 2bucks if that's what the finishing touches would cost.

does it need a water-cooled system necessary?
 vasy1 605 points
Yes. This is a boat ESC.
 __Krak 8 points
if used in enclosed space it should have the cooling connected
 ben006 17 points
yes ! without water it cames very hot !
zeeek1  514 points - 1/11/2010

One cooling plate or 2?
Three layers or 2?
Thanks...
 Mieciu 487 points
It has 1 very solid cooling plate between 2 of total 3 boards so it's cooled from inside :-)
The top of transistors (under the turnigy sticker) is covered by flat metal sheet. Take a look at the picture and you will see it's corners.
Big + is 4x470uF capacitors.

Please also add to description the "FAST START" ability. The effect is the same as connecting Brushed motor directly to battery :-)

If it really uses IRF mosFETs than this is a great ESC at and unbelievable preice. Interesting product. Thanks for bringing it HK!
 Mieciu 487 points
This ESC uses HEXFETPower MOSFET IR LR7843.
- Very Low RDS(on) at 4.5V VGS (3,2mΩ) and 2,6mΩ at 10V
- Ultra-Low Gate Impedance
Current is limited by package - 30A
So do not believe in "Continuous Drain Current, VGS @ 10V - 161A at temp 25 centigrade"

Mieciu, total amp rating is 120A.
Im not sure where you got those details from when we havent sent you or any other customer this product yet.
 Mieciu 487 points
Jason5001 :D
I put the specification of 1(one) MosFet - and as You can see on the picture (in my other reply above) you have 5 of them in row for each phase
That means 5x30A which is 150A(max). And that is great :-)
I know the manufacturer of this ESC...
 FreeS7yl3r 38 points

Anybody tell me please. how to set Forward and Backward mode
 vasy1 605 points
Forward only. Need the other Turnigy brand 120A ESC to have reverse.
 sailr 97 points
Hifei and Hobbywing are both quality manufacturers. Hifei makes the Aquastar. Hobbywing makes the Seaking. Turnigy is just a house brand that HK puts on everything. There is no such manufacturer as Turnigy.

Is there a 200 amp version 2-6s available?

You have to program your TH Subtrim to B100, and Th Punch to 4pcnt. After that, with your TX on and while TH all the way back (TH FULL), power up your ESC. During 4 beeps, release the TH. Your should get your ESC calibrated.

This esc is worth the money. Smooth throttle response and cool running.

Water nipples need to be sealed and tightened.

1 thumbs up!
Reviewers have mentioned the unit failing after a minute or two. Well here's the deal. I have two of these and both have the same problem. BEFORE you run this thing cut the heat shrink off and check the water cooling nipples. They are probably loose and will LEAK water! Put threadlock on them and re-secure with a wrench - not too tight just snug. Reapply heat shrink. These are NOT WATERPROOF so keep them dry. Good value but you have to fix them.
