D922MG Digital Metal Gear Servo 1.8kg/ 12g/ 0.07sec
Specially designed for helicopter and fast response applications.Steel material used in output gear for better intensity and reduce output deviation after long time use. It's high quality motor allows longer run on high speed. Compatible with many gyros such as Futaba 401,601.
Did anyone had problems with this servo?
Today i was hovering my HK450GT and tail just locked.
After landing the servo was not moving at all , i disconnected the battery and went in to the house to see whats happening i thought maybe the servo connector has disconnected from Rx but everything was fine.
And then i connected battery again and servo started moving weird and then after few seconds white smoke came out of servo.
I have HK401B gyro on heli , can gyro cause this problem or is it just servo , maybe that's his lifetime.
I know its just 10 bucks... I was lucky i did not crashed my heli.
I have more than 40 flights and servo was working fine.
Can someone recommend some other servo with price up to 12$ or should i buy the same servo?
The 922 is rated for 274Hz. Maybe the 401b is running it at 333Hz or more. I used a 922, though, at 333Hz and 6v on my 450 tail, for about a dozen flights until my HK15158A arrived - and that is cheaper and better on the tail than the 922.
It’*s a good servo for the money. But the plastic is vary cheap.
Dose anybody know where I can get a replacement servo case?
Just the top part were the screws go through?
Also I bought 6 and one came defected and wouldn’*t hold its position
Broke the case at the mounting holes myself. Found a replacement on E Bay. Haven't tested yet but the replacement top piece of the case was a perfect fit and the bearing fit snug. The replacement case seems to be of the same strength as the original unfortunately. Spread the load with some washers like another member suggested.
I have these Servos for my Hk 450 Pro TT . they work good. but over time the plastic weakend and broke off. dose anybody know where i can buy replacement servo cases??? or a case that will work? i only need the top part.where the screws go. thanks
The three 922's I bought were all pretty sloppy, and one of them was unstable at centre - it would oscillate. Flew like that for about 20 flights on my 450, then the problem servo decided to go to a new neutral, about 30 degrees different from before. Overall, I'm very disappointed with my 922's, not a patch on the 933's, but maybe I was just lucky with the 8 933's I bought - all smooth and slop-free, though a bit slow.
I use these as my cyclic servos on a CopterX 450 flybarred machine. They work great, when they do work, tho I'm experiencing some unexplainable erratic behavior with one of them (chep??). Anyway, I prefer them over the 933's because they have plenty of strength and are faster.
Dear Andreas, I have these servo on my 450 pro for about 18 months and is fantastic and releable. Only one think, check the cables inside the servo if is proper soldered to the electronic board. I have 9 pieces of these servo on my 3 450heli's cyclic. I 'm 3D flyer.
Has anyone else had these servo cases crumble? I mounted mine and the mount lug did not break it crumbled ! I never got to use the servo so I have no idea if it works. I could rub the bits that fell off between my fingers and the plastic just crumbled to tiny pieces. Absolute garbage.
Yes. Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!! First time I have ever broke a case, at least one tab broke off every one i bought. Very brittle. Replaced with corona 929mg's and they broke too. I have heard great things about the Blue Birds and Turnigy's so I will try them next. Have spent enough to have bought at least 2 Futaba's at this point.
Mihai, I did not use thread lock at that stage. I was just setting the basic position before test flying so I could loctite later. I can only assume that the servo I got was part of a really bad mix of resin/plastic to mold the case. Either way it was total garbage.
Is this servo DS (Digital Super) compatible or not? Everybody is talking about HK 401B used in digital mode with this servo but does that mean that DS switch should be turned on, or simply the delay should be reduced to zero? Please somebody explain. Thanks.
A 9257 clone, such as the HK15158A is a better tail servo on a 450 than the 922 - almost twice as fast. Te 922 claims 0.07s, but actually manages 0.13s. The 15158A lives up to 0.07s, and has way more torque. The 922 can do OK on a tail - the 15158A does much better.
I'm using this as a rudder servo with HK401B Gyro.
But If I change my RX frame rate to high Speed Gyro and servo does not respond to the tx commands.
but all my cyclic servos works.
I change the RX frame rate to a slower frame rate (according to the FrSky D8R V2 user Manual) and it solve the problem.
Now Gyro works Rudder Servo works and responds quickly to the TX but cyclic servo response is little bit delayed.
1520us is pulse width - not frame rate. The frequency is the frame rate - and the 922 is rated at up to 274Hz, so 250Hz would be the usual choice. A 401b in DS mode will run at 333Hz, but so long as there is no binding in the linkage, the 922 will survive.
Don't buy these servos if you are planning on using them in 3D planes with really large control surfaces. They are really jittery I put 4 of these in a PA Addiction and now I have a dancing plane, every control surface jitters violently all at once, funny but not usable. They are probably fine for regular control surfaces though.
I am using D922MG for quite some time now with hk401b gyro and the tail holds fine for beginer 3d. I had also used the ds480 but it burned out very quickly after 15-20 flights, that resulted a crash.
Now I am pretty happy with D922MG
In case some need tech info on the MD922 to run on their MicroBeast or SK720 or even Spartan Gyro, here it is from my email communication with Henge's Tech.
MD922 can have a maximum of 274Hz (less is OK) or minimum 3.65mSec (more is OK) Pulse/Frame rate/length.
MD933 can have a maximum of 250Hz (less is OK) or minimum 4mSec (more is OK) Pulse/frame rate/length.
Both have input range of 850us~2150us.
So, for you MicroBeastX user, you can select 200Hz and all those Spartan user can select 250Hz. If it get hot running at 250Hz as a tail servo (on Spartan), drop it down to 200hz.
Well... hope that helps.
I got that info from the technical guy at Henge during my discussion. So if it works for u, good for you, more power to you. It's your servo you paid for it. However i did try using higher rate and it works too, but in theory, i may have skip frame that i didn't notice.
333 is definitely the money. i tried the 250hz(cant set the software for 200hz on the spartan ) it gets hot!! I have 2 ds760 spartans with 922s performing excellently up to par as the ones with 9257 futs at the field.
Anyone tried swopping cases with a similar sized servo? my casing broke as my idiot friend decided to crash into my heli while it was stationary, the servo stays held but the D922 casing flanges broke. WTF!!! any suggestions?
Maybe good for normal operation. torque is not the same in both directions. turned my hand to force the servo arm in both directions servo is running, so in the opposite direction turned to a much smaller force than the other direction.
May be useful in normal use but a bit suspicious. I have not yet tried the helicopter tail where I'm going to use it.

10 thumbs up!
Quite disappoint speed, measured about 0,17sec almost 0,05 sec slower than Tpro 9g cheapy! Surprice!
T REX 450 tail has been used, unfortunately gyroskp digital mode, it could not communicate. Performed well in normal mode.

3 thumbs up!
Does not work as good as some of my other tailservo's. (450 heli)

3 thumbs up!
used these on cyclic and tail with 401B gyro. They work very well. Speed is just amazing and centering is good, torque is the same as the MG14 so thats perfect. had one mishap with one on tail and it burned out. the smell was awful! I advise to check the soldering and re-do it if in doubt. New servo is on its way and after a check i have no fear of flying with it again.
