The 160AR is a two cylinder horizontally opposed 4 stroke glow engine with an incredible sound, smooth and reliable idle (no more dead-stick landings) and easy starting characteristics.
Hallo Nico
Yeah get/make a magnet ring, mount the sensors, pick up a dual ignition and roll with it. Not sure what you are doing as far as the ethyl alcohol, if I were you I'd just run with a 12% Methanol mix, you mix that stuff up yourself for about $10-$12 USD depending on where you live.
A fellow of mine got one of this from HK and I'm his mechanics...Whren hot ( normal temp) the right cilinder get too hot and the engine slows down. Checked valves, valves clearence, valve timing, sleeves , pistons, rings, compression ratio, carb. and what else. It is running now with an master 16x10x3 but the right cylinder is still a bit hotter.
Has some buyer met a similar issue with this engine to help me?
Hi there, I live in Thailand (very hot wether condition). Using hely-fuel with 15 % nitro and 20 % oil without any problems. If the humidity is raising up You should use less nitro maybe 5 % if very humid.
If the brake in is not finished a difference on temperature is normal. This engines need a long time for brake in. Check again after using 3 gallons of fuel, should be better then.
Hi, beppo, Tks. I've been thinging-(sometimes i do) and remenbered the problems K&B (or fox) faced circa 1980 to design a boxer twin 2 stoke. Due to position of mixture transfer one cilynder got richer than other, hence cooler and more prone to misfire.
Similar accurs in 4 stroke but due to better cooling in left cylinder due to more oil being spiled in thr back of piston and them misfire in low rpm and the right one get too hot. The most it brake in it gets better.
good flights
Hi nihil
thanks for the credit by the way. 2 stroke engines are different cause the air/fuel mix comes from the crankshafthousing. Ther is a Magnus-effect due to the rotating crankshaft. The 4 stroke engine gets the air/fuel mix directly from the caburator to the inlet. There should be no difference between left and right side.
Ups I just realised You are using a 16x10x3. That's really a big prop, maybe to big. I recommand to use a smaller prop for brake in. try 16x8 two blade.
I was thinking the same thing about the prop. That would be realy loading it up. I haven't got mine yet but the recomend a 15X8 in the info above which would be a two blade. In a three blade, something like 15X6, 16X4 or somewhere around that would be roughly equivalent. There's a much better range of prop size choices if you switch to a two blade prop.
Nihil that's a great idea. Please keep in touch and tell us You made it ore not. I don' think it will blow up. The main problem is to get the sparkling plug into the cylinder head. Good luck for You doing that.
No, no blow. Got dual ingition in RC Extreme powerfor 1/4x32 plugs, as also spare plugs. Just screw in the plugs. The main task wil be assembly a walbro carb and get the best compression ratio for 90/95 octane gas. Alcohol is 100 and with 16 % oil even more. I'l do my home work. See you.
For our reference I am using it on a ESM Bonanza A36 Aprox 7,2 Kg (16 Lb) with a Master 16*8 and 16*10 very realistic and plenty of powee. Because my fuel tank is to far away Im using a Perry pump (The Blue one ) because this is a twin cilinder you can not use the 4 stroke (recomended by Perry support center) also for a few more $$ you can install a onboard glowdriver (twin) then you will have a bulletproof engine on your model .
Hi,
Is the nipple that comes out of the crankcase a breather that just needs venting away? Just received this gem of an engine but the instructions are a little vague.
I bought one of this engines, very pleased with it, but there is no detailed manual with it. I need to know how to adjust the valves.
Thanks to everybody who can help me.
I ajusted using OS FT-160 Specifications and runs perfeclty . The standard valve clearance, on both inlet and exhaust valves, is between 0.04mm and 0.1mm(0.0015-0.004 inch),measured between valve stem and rocker arm. Use the 0.04mm and 0.1mm feeler gauges to check clearances. Take a look into the page 24 of the OS ft 160 Manual for the procedures to adjust it.
I am building a Cub from a vintage kit, and would like to get the dimensions of this engine. Width from valve cover to valve cover, length from mount to prop seat, and lastly, the height from bottom to top. Please respond ASAP as it is time to order a powerplant for this airplane. Thanks
you get no discount because its not a big deal for platinum members ( y should we) we did buy it to this to receive discount, we just bought items. its either here or tower hobbies or other place
Hello. What exhaust can I fit on this engine. We are limited here to 80 dB at 7 meters, so flying without an exhaust seems not an option. Does anyone has a solution??
does any one have the width between exhaust & intake manifold centers as this may be a problem for where i want to mount it, or does anyone know where i can get the spec sheet off the net.
Thanks to anyone who can help
The width between the exhaust centers in the cyl head are 136mm. this may help for those that are concerned about the relationship between the cowl and exhaust pipes.engine started second flip of the prop but i did adjust the tappets before first start and they were well out of adjustments. I set mine to .002"inlet/.004" exhaust for those that care. If you dont know how to adjust these find someone that does.
Less powerful than the 180, but it runs smoother. Good choice for the FW190.

3 thumbs up!
This engine is a good performer, swings a 14x6 prop in a 104 inch Piper Cub at just on half throttle. Two home made mufflers are fitted to keep it quiet and 5pcnt nitro, 18pcnt synthetic oil mix is used. On board glow controlled from the TX helps greatly when on low revs when landing. Its well worth the money. It is also sold under a few other names like MAGNUM,SAYNE and SC. Time will tell as far as quality goes but meantime its great.

2 thumbs up!
Great engine. Arrived in a wood box. Using in a KMP Bearcat. Since the fuel is not press is required a Perry pump. A Sullivan twin glow driver or similar is required. It is possible to start this engine a cylinder at a time! Till now no dead stick.

2 thumbs up!
Further to my earlier review, this motor has been run for 9 to 12 minute flights 3 and four times each wednesday and saturday for the past 9 weeks, prime it twice, turn on glow igniter and one flick (most times) and away it goes. No signs of faulting, no problems encountered. After each day its serviced with after run and cleaned down, what else to do or say except good value for money. This owner very pleased.
