Can I use this for airplane with 6x4 prop? This is just like any brushless 2100kv motor right? I like the price-power value. 500W for 10 buck! Or am I missing something here?
yes this motor works awesome with an airplane but you will have to get a new 4mm shaft for it. on a 6x4 on 3s I've got about 800g of thrust, But I'm going to test it with a 4s and post the results.
7x5 is better for 3s at 40A
I have used this motor extensively in model warship combat, both for pump and drive motors. It works GREAT with a HK 30A car ESC with 2S LiPOs, although in the pump I use a HK 60A aircraft ESC (only has to turn one direction)because sometimes current draw on the pump goes up (i.e. if you are pumping more water, more current drawn).
For a race boat, if you want to go totally overkill, 2S or 3S and a HK 45A car ESC.
**Note - waterproof the car and aircraft ESCs with epoxy for marine use, I've used mine for 2 years with no glitches**
No, It can't. And it is not suitable for jet pusher set-up. I tried and the motor came apart.(no lock nut for the shaft) I putted the motor back and installed it backward,a puller, in my jet and it works perfectly fine.
Will this motor be enough power on a 450 Heli and a 14T pinon on 3s battery? Or should I upgrade to a 3500KV motor? This is my first Heli so it was brought by mistake and I wouldn't be flying 3D.
He is referring to how many LiPo cells your battery has. Each cell adds 3.7 volts to your battery's output. 2s=7.4v, 3s=11.1v and so on. Since this motor has a relatively low KV (rpm per volt) rating, you will need a large pinion gear to increase your rotor speed. For instance, I use a 3550kv motor with a 13t pinion and a 3s battery pack in my exi450. If I wanted to have about the same head speed that I have now with this motor (you dont lose power because this one will generate more torque at the same speed), I would need at least an 18 or 19 tooth pinion. Or I could increase the speed by using a higher voltage battery, a 5s pack would be about right I think. (these are all approximate numbers, I just figured roughly in my head for an example)
It's really aimed at 4s use on a 450 heli, in which case you would use a 15t or 16t pinion, 17t for 3d. HK sell 3.17mm pinions all the way from 10t to 15t, then 17t and 20t. I might try a lower KV motor with a larger pinion to see if it runs quieter.
This motor is BLDC Three phase unlike the brush one that use direct current only pos & neg . These motor must used special speed control for brushless 3 phase , the 3 wires from motor jump to the 3 wire from brushless (3 phase) speed control if the rotation is not as U want normally for front drive turn is CCW for push drive turn CW , only change one pair any one , and the rotation will change be sure to put the right side of prop front and push drive wind must go back make the plane go ahead
Alright around 3500kv x 13T pinion is like a "classic" in 450s. So what the heck is that 2100kV supposed to be? Can somebody please tell me the purpose? even with 4s batt with 15T pinion the HS will be low.
This motor is working well with half-symetric rotorblades like Spinblades and low rpm. With a not too small pinion gear, the sound is really quiet. A great advantage is, that you can run the low rpm setting with 70 - 80 percent throttle, this is the optimum for most speed controllers. This low headspeed is used for just cruising around or scale flying with good flying times.
The point is, higher rpm motors efficiency reduces. So while you think you are saving flight time your losses (caused by low efficiency) increase. Is there really a scientific comparison of this motor with same brand but lower rpm ones?
Yes, udidit, you are pretty right. This motor is a good match with the hobbyking 4 and 5 blade rotor heads for 450 heli. Running a 13 teeth pinion with the 4 blade head with 1800 rpm can easily lift a flying weight up to 1000 gramm. Sometimes it is better to use a 14 or 15 teeth pinion for some more headspeed.
i tried this on another motor in the series and it took some work to acheive. You will need to press it out. can be done with a vice and a piece of tube but might be best to choose another motor.

5X5.5, 2100 KV, 10 volts (3 cells 30C).......176 KPH, say 130 to 150 KPH max in real situation, but care to amps (more than 40). And care to total weight : motor plus ESC plus (1300ma 35C 3S lipo or 2400 20C 3S lipos for example, to suit power of motor correctly)
I broke my funjet´s motor and replaced with this - with a 7x6 balanced APC it pulls 46A, 530W static on 3S. The funjet is not so fast anymore, but the setup works well.
Motor arrivied 2 days ago so far my first thoughts about this motor are awesome. It has a 4mm shaft ground down to 3.17 for the pinion. I plan on running this in my 6s 450 setup. Quality looks great can't wait to get it in the air.

Put this motor in F-22 foamie with TowerPro 40amp ESC, 7X5E prop, 3s 2200mah 25c lipo. Pulls just under 40 amps and just under 400 watts on Turnigy Watt Meter. Haven't try a 4s battery yet since I will need to use 50-60amp ESC. Will probably go down to 6X4 or 6X5 TGS speed prop.

Put one of these in my Venom Creeper rock crawler along with a 35A brushless ESC... Awesome torque and wheelspeed from this little guy! Very impressed!
