I just got this a few weeks back, charged ten 3S batteries. Charger works fine EXCEPT that the built-in fan became extremely noisy on about the third battery and is getting worse all the time. Has anyone else experienced the fan failing early. Will HK cover this on warranty or send a new fan. Better yet, anyone know what fan it takes and I will just replace it myself.
Im pretty sure you can forget the warranty on this and it takes any fan that fits in it. If you have one you can measure the size, voltage should be 12v so I would use a pc fan that fits.
Hello,
Does this charger do the following?
1. Can timer be TURNED OFF? meaning NOT have a timer limit of 250mins, which all my chargers have, and that kills my nimh charging at 0.2amps for 12 or more hours, my chargers stink.
2. Does the charger remember the values and NOT disappear so i can see them later when i get back to the charger like next morning or eve?
thank you
So is this unit adjustable for the final voltage? Don't like having to "top off" all my batteries with a different charger because this one only charges to 12.5.
So I've gotten this charger for a while now and it works fine. However when I'm charging any type of battery, it can't go above 0.4 A. If it does it shows input voltage error. If I charge it at 0.2 A it works but take hours. I've tried using an ATX computer power supply giving 12 Volts and a maximum of 15 amps. The same problem happens with above. I've also tried using a laptop power supply giving a constant 18.5 Volts but as soon as I turn on the charger, it says input voltage error. I'm starting to doubt the quality of the charger. I anyone could help that would be well appreciated thanks!
Just got this in and works awesome...just wondering though, it has three charge modes...Charge, Fast Charge, and Balance charge...should I be using balance every time? I don't mind longer charge time so is that the "healthiest" choice? I have heard that you can just charge/fast charge all the time then just balance charge once every 10-20 charges..is this true? I just charged my Turnigy Nano-Tech 2650 3S and the cell's are about .02 volts off from each other..seems OK but my old balance charger always made them exactly the same. Also this charger only is getting that battery and my Turnigy 3S 5000mah to 12.55 volts...should be 12.6...I'm needing to plug into my old charger to "top off" to 12.6. Don't like that part.
first there is a manual in the file section. secondly there is also a hobyking video which shows you clearly the cable setup...at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR0p9qLmDJY
I just bought turnigy max80 and the turnigy 2200mAh 20c 2 cell 7.4v battery.I have no clue how to set this charger up to charge my battery. I got manual off internet but I don't understand it,can someone help me with the settings? thank you
the stop button lets you change between battery types set it too lipo press start button to accept ,use dec button to select charging model you want to use ,in your case best would be balance after that use the start button to switch between cell count and charge amount in your case it should be set to 2s and charge rate 2.2 when done to start charging press and HOLD start button it will check the cell count and if right (2s) press the start button again to start charging.
Hi, I got this charger about 2 Weeks ago, They sent me the wrong Balancing adapter, NP (but) I messaged the support and was instructed to send a Photo of the incorrect Items to support email, the live support told me that it would take 2 days for a response and my issue would be resolved. Its been 1 week and 6 days haven't heard Anything! Be Warned
I used an accucel-6 berfore and I can calibrate it but I can not calibrate the new Turnigy MAX80W.
Anyone knows how to calibrate a Turnigy MAX80W charger? pls tell me.
Hi guys. I ordered the "Just Another Battery Charger" with built-in PSU but as its on backorder for another month they offered to swap it for something else. What PSU do I need for this Turnigy model? People mention the 350w 25A HobbyKing unit, but what AMPs does it actually pull? I have several workbench power supplies between the 10-18volts its says its requires, but not sure they'll keep up in the AMPs department. Thanks in advance.
Any power supply that can deliver 10 or 12 volts at 8 to 10 amps should be sufficient for this specific charger.. What's important is that the PSU has at least equal or greater watts (is output volts*amps) than the charger can deliver.. In this case it's 80 Watts, so as an example you can have any PSU that has 10 volts output at 8 amps = 80 watts. For 12 volts 6,6 amps is enough, etc.
just received my MAX80W: it seems to work very well but NO SOUND when I set the buzzer ON (both options in the user menu). Tried to make the buzzer work recycling disable / enable several time but still silent. Question: is it normal or my MAX80W has a died buzzer??? Thanks mates
My friend has that charger and he also has no buzzer, it could be wrong too or this just dont have a buzzer, maybe a defineate weakpoint in construction so it maybe comes dead or something. Otherwise works fine. The guy didnt return it coz of this he would have lost more time than it is worth. Hope it helped.
Thanks CReal for your answer. Well, I opened it, not worth to send it back to HK so I decided to give up on the warranty. Results: there is a piezo buzzer soldered on the PCB but it is dead. Going to replace it as soon as I find a suitable spare piece.
I managed it to buzz again: I replaced the original buzzer with a new spare one "with electronics onboard". I frankly suspect that the old one was the wrong type (trasductor only). Can't verify - no part number on it. BAD quality control in any case. Anyway the appearance of the mainboard is very very good. Unfortunately I've a dead fan now. I'm going to replace this one also...
try the HobbyKing 350w 25A Power Supply (220v~240v) its works really nice even with two chargers simultaneously along with a heat-detect-fan control feature.
The charger needs a 10-18 Volt input. This is DC - Direct current. The stuff coming out of your wall is 110V or 240V AC - alternating current. So you need to convert AC to DC for it to work. You can get DC power from a car battery - 12V DC or you can get a power supply. HK does sell one. Try the HK 350w 25A Power Supply. Or get a car.
You can go into the menu and change the voltage per cell to 3.1V, it will then automatically switch to LiFe
It takes some time to find the proper setting, but if you check the menu you'll find it.
Hello
I connected 4 NIMH cells with the wrong polarity to this charger and started the charging. I noticed fast that my Power Supply beginns to make noise. Then i looked at the display and saw a current of 7A. Did did something to the Charger?
Hi, it's got polarity protection, you might have killed the battery or your power supply, but your charger should be alright (and usually your PSU too)
Watch out when you charge though.. if you reverse polarity your batteries could explode!
These chargers always hum a little when charging, no worries.
My Turnigy Max80W has a problem with DEC button. It won't let me decrease values after increasing them. Its stuck functioning as stop/exit button. Everytime I try to decrease a value, it exits the menu.
Anyway to fix or reset the charger?
I'm having the same exact issue with this charger after owning it for ~1.5 yr. I've tried everything to get the DEC button to work (pressing combo buttons while powering it up) without success. Anyone know how to fix or reset this charger?
Hi;
I just received one and I try to use it with http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem .asp?idProduct=11986 charger to charge a 3S 5500mA.
Each time I try the screen display "connection break", everything is new, I tried to change the batterie it always fail :/
Any idea?
Hi Cyrille, All of the Turnigy chargers use the same firmware for running the charger. You must connect the balance plug AND the main power lead to charge LiPo batteries, or you will get a "connection break" error. The charger uses the power lead to bring the battery up to some basic threshold level and then fine tunes/balances thru the balance plug to the full charge state. Cheers!
Hi,
Thanks for answering.
So, I've to plug the lipo output to the charger and plug the balance plug too?
Seems strange, HK may say it, will avoid some troubles...
Hi Cyrille, Thanks for the credit. Yes, Make sure both leads from your LiPo are plugged into the charger and the "connection break" error shouldn't occur. If it still does, then there is a problem with the charger and you'll have to pursue HK for a replacement or repair. Cheers!
i`m using two of this, connected parallel to 95Ah 12V car battery, charges very quckly and if take more current the battery will go warm, i need them preheated right from my trunk cuz here is -25C now :)
At home i use any adapter which makes 12V, from 800 to 2000mA,i have 5 different ac-dc (7" tv power, AAcharger, phone power supply etc)and they all work fine, the main thing is not to burn the adapter to check what current it can make, actually for chinees adapters if you have say 800mah written
Hi, I'm using a modified Computer power source (12V), have had no problems so far, at the field I use the 12v car battery, by the way very good charger..
I suggest you take the Hobbyking 350w 25A Power supply.
Product id - T-25PS-220 or T-25PS-110.
I have been using the MAX80W with the above mentioned charger and it works like a charm. Hope this helps :)
does anybody now how to connect this charger to a pc for data analyse? I have the USB Adapter for the charger. I see the USB to RS232 Converter on sytstem. But I dont now what program I shoult use. I tried a universal logview, what works with the 150 W charger, but I dont now what charger I should select. In the menue of the charger, I selected USB - not Temp.
really? the manual describe how to sconnect to the computer and at the menue in the charger I can switch between USB and TempSensor? Whay do you belive there is no data input? there is no USB plug, you need a USB to serial Adapter, thats clear.
Please read what I wrote: ==>> But I dont now what program I shoult use. I tried a universal logview, what works with the 150 W charger, but I dont now what charger I should select.==>> So the queastion is: What program or what charger at logview must I choose.
you can try all of them.
but i'm almost sure it won't work.
your pc sees the USB to RS232 Converter but that converter sees no charger :)
anyway that's just my imho. i could be wrong of course
I use the 2.4ghz turnigy transmitter usb adapter and the accucel 50W charger, but it seems as I've read elsewhere, that these chargers need to "work" in order to be seen by the PC. unless you begin charging he PC, logview will not see the charger.
Hi there ppl i brought this charger and waited 3 weeks for it to turn up then when i went to use it there is no (lipo batt) menu to charge or balance lipos everything eles is there but no lipo and to add to my luck lipo is what i brought it for. Has any one eles had this problem as well?
jst had a mate help me with this problem all i had to do was change the liXX V. Type so that sorted that out very happy now time to try this charger out now.
i have the same charger it's ok you bought the right charger. the left button selects program.hit it until you see program select Lipo batt.then hit the right "enter" . then up or down arrows to select type of charge(balance, discharge, storage, fast charge etc.)enter. select charge rate (arrows up and down)enter. then the cells (2S, 3S etc.) enter.then hold down the enter for a couple of seconds. it will show battery check and then your on your way !!
A slow balance charge at 1/4 to 1/2 of the rated C value is where I would start, also throw the LiPo in a LiPo fire bag and charge it preferably in the Garage on Cement. And watch it!
I let 2 new 3s packs go too low. i had to start charge as a nimh pack for a few minutes to get the dead cell up a bit and to keep the charger from rejecting it. i then did a balance charge . i saved one another lost the center cell( i turned it into a 2S)
Hi guy Can you tell me the difference betwen the Lipo charge mode and the Lipo charge balincing mode ? In the charging mode, the charger can balance my Lipo? Thanks
Lipo Charge will charge your battery to the correct voltage overall , Balance charge will charge EACH CELL in the battery to the exact same voltage and ensure the battery is completely balanced during the charging process :)
balance get all cells to same output voltage. That ensures that 1 cell isn't supplying all the load and thus overheat.

2 thumbs up!
you will have to solder your choice of pug as it comes with cheap aligator clips on input and output however the charger works great it took some getting used to the menu at least for me because there is not a single sheet of instructionno manual is the reason for 4 stars
This is an amazing charger for the price all chargers with anything like this in local hobbyshops are over $100. It is small, quiet, and charges just about all batterys.
