at about 7:27 the motor begins a pulsing throttle line what does it mean? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqrJ7ZUI0FE
 amfquad 12 points
Did you feel the motor and ESC after landing, what was the battery power, something was breaking a cut off value, dropping below it when cutting off and then repeating the cycle it sounded like. It looked like lower throttle ranges did not do it and it wasn't until you advanced the throttle after it started and that was after flying for 7 minutes. Could be ESC was hot.

Is it T-connector(Deans), Bullet or something else at the battery-side for this ESC ?
 Roger 2700 points
it comes with bare wires, you get to choose the connector to match with your lipo.
Joerund  3 points - 5/14/2013

I have 1 mystery and 1 blueseries esc and 1 20A blueseries. I can't get anyone of them in start acc mode. I tried programming with transmitter and programming card.
What am I doing wrong??
I can program brake and rotation, but not start acc.
All of them ramp up with 1 sec slowly first.
 Yesyns 121 points
I had problems too but after investigate found the solution. I use it on my T45 hawk plane. Some wires connection ware loosen, so I cramped firmly the female and male pin plug. Then everythings going fine except heat factor on this ESC and the wires connect to battery. In precaution to avoid the heating effect, I put fibre tape separating the wire against the foam wall of my plane... share you and friends my findings.

will this esc work on a trex 450 and stock motor ?? original esc is 35 amps
 Roger 2700 points
It will work, and probably will last longer than your 35A ESC.
Phil  5 points - 5/4/2013

When I turn throttle up, motor turns at about 10% for 2 sec then jumps to the current throttle position. I've tried all setting on and off. ( govenor, soft start etc) nothing seems to stop this rpm jump at startup. The same thing happens with a 30a blue series that I have. I'm really stumped on this one!
 (Mike) 563 points
this is for the esc to sync with motor rotation so it can power it in the right direction. I had sync problems with plush 30a because that relied on stick calibration rather than actual motor rotation. I think this should be normal

 Phil 5 points
Ok that makes sense, because the same thing is happening on my 30a blue series also, but not with an rc timer esc that I have.
 (Mike) 563 points
My electrifly silver series 35a does the same but that is nearly $50, cheers for the credit. It feels like the motor changes a gear when powering up.
 Antonio 2 points
you may try by travel ad of trottle in your trasmitter.

Is the HobbyKing 40A BlueSeries Brushless ESC compatible with the Turnigy BESC Programming Card (product ID: TR_PC)??? Thx
 DobX1 63 points
No, it is not. There is another programming card available for the BlueSeries ESCs. Look for "HobbyKing Programming Card" Produkt ID: HKz-Prog. That's the one you Need for These ESCs.

Something weird is going on with this esc. When I move throttle stick up, motor starts spinning slowly, then after 1 second jumps up to 2x speed. I have tried 3 different motors and tried various settings on the esc using the programming card. Any ideas?
 Slowflyer3 14 points
Sounds like the ESC is in soft acceleration mode used for Helis. Disable this feature and try turning off the brake setting and governor mode.

What is the type of the input control signal of this ESC? Is it PWM signal? If so, what are the voltage levels? and where can I find its data sheet?
 Crawdad 221 points
Look up "servo control signal" on Wikipedia, it's been around since the dinosaurs walked the earth.
 abdulahad100 363 points
Yes it accepts PWM on the signal line and 5 volts will work fine.
Claudio  9 points - 4/21/2013

somebody using this ESC with NAZA? im using the 30 amp version and it`s ok but it gets a bit warm with heavy loading´*. thinking in upgrading to 40amp
 abdulahad100 363 points
All esc's will get a little warm but if it gets hot around 80 Celsius then you should use a larger amperage ESC.
Sidewinder010  1 points - 4/17/2013

Almost all esc can reverse the drive direction simply inverting the motor wires
 Yesyns 121 points
Yes, the motor will rotate in either clockwise or counter clockwise, depends on the position of the three wires connected.
Martin  4 points - 4/15/2013

i need this to drive with a boat. can the esc forward and reverse drive thanks
 Roger 2700 points
There's no reverse for this ESC. You have to switch the motor wire connections. There are ESC with reverse function, look for car ESC.
Mike  1 points - 4/7/2013

is there a program card for this speed controller?
 Alexander 126 points
Of course, HobbyKing Programming card for BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controller. PRODUCT ID: HKz-Prog

I am a little disappointed with how short the battery wires are on these. Is everyone resoldering longer ones? I need at least 6 cm longer.
 abdulahad100 363 points
you can solder 14 awg wire on the battery side. Use heat shrink to cover the joint.

Hi all, is that AWG 16 going to the motor (can't quite make it out from the pic)? I though I might need to extend the wires with AWG 12 but looks like 14 will be fine. Only a short distance of around 20-25cm. Thanks in advance
 abdulahad100 363 points
The wire going from ESC to the motor is 16AWG and the wire going to the battery is 14AWG. So you'll be fine using 14 AWG wire on the motor side. Don't forget to use some heat shrink on your connections to avoid any short circuits.

 Roger 2700 points
Yes, search for multistar ESC.

There's no startup beeping sound when I connect it to battery and receiver. I wonder what could be wrong. Anyone experienced the same issue?
 Ariel_od 12 points
May be you forget connect Speed Controller to the motor....
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 jeancaban 2 points
You need to program your maximum throttle input on your ESC. Turn on the transmitter, move the throttle stick to the top, connect the ESC. After 8 beeps, divided by 2 continuos (** ** ** **), move the throttle stick down, now you have programmed you ESC. It should be working now like normal.
 twistedge 58 points
jeancaban is correct. I had the same problem until I did the throttle calibration. Manual is in the files section if you need.

Hi, Is this flashable with Simon K Code? Thanks.
 Roger 2700 points
Yes. Get a USBASP and download the KKmulticopter Flash Tool.
 Ariel_od 12 points
I used: 1) USBASP Atmel Atmega Socket Firmware Flashing Tool. (You can by it at Hobbyking) 2) Software www.link bs40a.hex from https://github****/sim-/tgy/downloads All working great.

What is the difference between this ESC and another Hobbyking ESC(HobbyKing 40A ESC 4A UBEC)? Both of them are very similar except this BlueSeries is slightly more expensive. Anyone has experience on both of them?
 abdulahad100 363 points
The difference is in the internal components. The BlueSeries ESCs are field proven and use superior MOSFETs as compared to the HobbyKing 40A ESC.

what is a good motor to run with this on a tricopter
 Roger 2700 points
HOw much weight do you expect from your Tri? You should choose motors with a combined thrust that is twice the overall weight of the tricopter. Say if you have a 2kg overall weight, each motor should at least be capable of 1.33kg of thrust or more.

i think u wur looking at the NTM Rotor Drive 450 Series 3400KV / 500W 3s motor not the NTM Rotor Drive 450 Series 1700KV /930w 6s motor
 abdulahad100 363 points
The NTM motor looks slightly superior. But I am not sure which one of these is better. Also be careful the shaft diameter of NTM motor is 3.5 instead of the usual 3.17 so u'll have to use an appropriate pinion.
dominick19m  20 points - 3/5/2013

from what i saw the 6s motors have to have lower kv ratings i dunno much about 6s setups but the 2 motors are specific made for the 450 class and the ntm it suppose to be the higher watt motor.. i cant seem to find any flight videos or reviews for these motors any additional info would be great
 abdulahad100 363 points
Yes that was my mistake in the previous comment. You are right that motors with 6s setups will have lower KV (KV is actually rpms per volt).

stuck between the Turnigy HeliDrive SK3 Competition Series - 2839-1700kv and the NTM Rotor Drive 450 Series 1700KV
 abdulahad100 363 points
NTM Rotor Drive 450 Series 1700KV can only be used with 3s lipo but its KV is higher. The HeliDrive SK3 motor has a lower KV than is normal for 450 size helis.
 abdulahad100 363 points
The HeliDrive SK3 seems like a better choice for your requirements. It also gives you slightly more power (50W more) than the NTM motor.

I don't recommend it for Heli, because it doesn't have really soft start.

In very soft start mode it starts with a short strong bump, then it goes to 50pcnt speed for a second and then to 100pcnt.

450 Heli rotates 90 degree on the ground with such a "soft" start. The same Heli works fine with Plush.

Wow, I am glad I bought this when I did! This is a fantastic speed control. I hooked it up to my new HK 450MT project and have had no problems. I haven't gotten the chance to really load it up yet, but it runs cool in hovering (test flights).

I deducted one star because it comes with no instructions. While you can build the HK 450 with T-Rex instructions, I wouldn't attempt programming the ESC with them!

Thanks again, HK!
