Hobbyking Pitts-S12 Python (Yellow/Black) EP 1370mm (ARF)
Hobbyking Pitts-S12 Python (Yellow/Black) EP 1370mm (ARF)

For many RC pilots, there is something really special about flying a Bi-Plane, and there is plenty about the Hobbyking Pitts S-12 ARF that is special! The Pitts Python is perhaps the ultimate Bi-Plane and this ultra high quality kit really does this amazing aerobatic aircraft justice, not only in terms of scale looks but also performance.

Just look at the quality of the balsa/ply construction and you will see a strong but ultra-lightweight design, and this theme continues throughout the model, carbon fiber control horns, composite/ply motor mount, pull/pull rudder control with rigging wire to stiffen the verical & horizontal stabilizer, glass-fibre wheels spats with large lightweight wheels, alloy cabane and so on.

The Hobbyking Pitts S-12 is designed specifically for electric flight and is also very practical, quick to field assemble, it features massive removable canopy with a quick release latch and a huge battery tray. This is a good size model that will require a 5s set up for sport flying, however, to get the best from this model, we would reccomend a low kv 6s set up.

Hi all...can i use a gasoline engine 15cc or 20cc ?!
JuanchoRC  59 points - 4/23/2013

Hi What points should be taken into account so that an airplane fly?
 sidd232 649 points
Basically and considering that all aerodynamic aspects of the plane have already been taken care of by the manufacturer, you just need to know the flying weight of plane in lbs, so according to that you choose a power system able to produce the required amount of watts per pound depending of type of plane, and usually goes like this: trainer/scale 80-100 wpp( watts per pound), sport aerobatic 120-180 wpp, 3d 200-250 wpp, edf 200 and up wpp, this numbers are an average. Another very important aspect to get a plane properly flying is to set the center of gravity adequately as specified by manufacturer. well just a few important points to be considered, hope helps.

1. If you read nothing else read this- the centre of gravity in the instructions is WRONG! It should be 108 mm from the leading edge of the top wing. This is a safe starting position and then adjust to suit you. 2. Either the metal struts supporting the wing at the centre are too long or the support frames at either end of the wings are too short. I left the metal supports the supplied length and made new support frames to support the wings at the edge. Others have cut the metal to suit and used the original end support frames. I used the recommended motor & a 16x10 APC prop with 6s 4000 mah 20c lipo with red brick 100amp ESC. The model performs well on this set up- but others have commented that it will give unlimited vertical- not true& my model is below the recommended weight with the recommended set up. 3. The metal wheel struts are too large to go in the cut out in the fuselage- you have to open it up. 4. This model can be quite fiddly to assemble but is well worth the effort in the end. 5. The wood & glue (or amounts of glue used) isn’*t as good as some areas crumble easily- I recommend you run PVA glue around all the visible joints & reinforce the landing gear area. 6. I compare this model in flight to the sebart range- possibly an unfair comparison- but the Pitts isn’*t as good- however the Sebart range cost a lot more. 7. All in all, with some work, this is a good model given some basic failings (lack of glue in joints & top wing supports too long/short depending on how you fix it). The CofG in the instructions is a basic error & should be corrected. 8. This is a lot of model for the money & flies well once the correct CofG is implemented.

HK, Can you make a product that is a 50e biplane which is a pitts prometheous in the Skip Stewart color scheme? Sorry to sound so greedy. Your products are very good though. Thanks
witooa  36 points - 9/3/2012

Hi All, how would a RCG 15cc Gas engine w/ CD-Ignition 2.1HP/1.54kw go in this Pitts or need a 20cc.
 Pico10 77 points

Overall Rating 22/05/2012 Bernie 1 likes Value Quality Like it? This COULD have been my favourite plane. Well made, expertly finished BUT poorly packaged for shipment. The cowling was crushed beyond repair* A fibreglass part that can’*t be re- made without specialized tools making the plane useless. No amount of correspondence including photos would convince HOBBY KING to send a replacement. I even offered to pay shipping! Their response was always “*Sincere Apologies, more information required”* Should have spent my $200.00 in North America where people have a heart and a soul. Well< if HK cant answer me then please guys, have a look at the bottom of this page. I think this is pathetic HK.

Can this plane be converted to glow? I am capable of "bashing" ARF's. But I would like to know somebody has done it to this plane. It would be a great candidate.

there's plenty of room and the motor mount is plenty strong

Come on HK guys doesn't make any sense to advertise a plane that you won't carry anymore, i have been waiting for it to be in stock for 6 months now and it doesn't seem optimistic.

Hey everybody, what is the right engine and prop for this plane? I just bought and I have no idea what engine that I must buy. Best regards!
 H-KING_SCOTT 5233 points
The best would be the Turnigy Easymatch G60 400kv on 5s for sport or 6s for real performance, 15x10~16x8 prop.

Hey Jason, thank's for for the answer, but this engine is never available... There is another option? I'm thinking about use a gas engine on this machine, because I have an extra 300 very light, like a eletric model, with a DLE30 and works great! No damage on the strutcure. Best regards!

I love this plane, but which Brushless motor would you recommend for this plane??
 crashhelmet 4 points
This plane dry weight is at six pounds. Add electrics, motor and Lipo could easily push it over 7.5# I'd go with a 85amp ESC with 5 amp BEC, a 600 kv motor powered by a 5S 4000 mah 35 C Lipo. Metal gear servos. That would make one killer plane
 hanno 5 points
I would go 6s 100amp esc
Sylvain  124 points - 7/6/2011

This is a bomb !
Ths color scheme is great, the size, the weight...Only enourmous draw back : the shipping cost !
If you send these aircraft to the USA warehouse, it's going to be a killer !
I want one !
 Sylvain 124 points
if you still go that way, you may be a serious concurent to those big brands...half the price ! Bravo.

Hello Anthony and My friends * HobbyKing I concur with kalvin, inspire us with the De Havilland Dash-8 Q100 thru 400. I am in the process of designing a 11% scale model Dash 8 using CAD program. It would be nice to have something tangible on hand for more detail accuracy.

Verry nice plane, flew on a G60 motor with 5S pack and it looks great in the air. Quility of covering and woodwork are great but I had to drop to three stars because the center carbanes are a massive 4.5cm to long and many of the metal tabs needed to be modified to fit. Also a few missing parts from my kit that I had to buy at my lhs just screws, bad threading on an aileron linkage and things like that. Probably spent almost a weekend fixing that and other bits and pieces. Flies easily on a 5S 4000mah with a G60 and 16X10 prop but won't do vertical without a 6S.
