The Hobbyking 70mm EDF fighter jet certainly looks the part and as a result of the quality construction, is a very capable high speed model jet. This jet was designed to be a dogfighter and this model sports an all moving tailplane and good size aileron's to give the RC pilot the kind of maneoverability that this fighter is famous for. Wing/elevator construction is Foam core/sheet balsa, the fuselage, intake, canopy and vertical stab are composite, the fan cover is removable and an eflux tube sheet is included.
This is an affordable and practical high performance scale jet that will give you many hours of fun, a 70mm fan unit is included and the total build cost should be low for such a nice quality model. Great looks, low build cost, quality construction, great flyer and of course ballistic performance, what more could you ask for!

great for HobbyKing,I hope you have a Warehouse In INDONESIA
Hello all, I bought this from the american warehouse and have been working on it for the last 2 months. I had to make my own landing gear out of parts I had from other planes. I think it turned out ok and lookforward to flying this weekend.
Riccardo, I did my flight line testing and had to re-engineer the front landing gear. High speed passes are good on ground. Just haven't flown yet. Will when the weather clears up.
I am building this plane but dont know if it will fly, however I would like to add retracs, lightweight, do you think it will decrease considerably the performance of this plane?
Hi, till now there are not spare parts, but if you have the airplane I can reccomendyou to build the wing yourself, I dont know if the wing is made from balsa and cover with a film of fiberglass. I think it is not so hard if you copy the exact shape, I would like to see the broken wing to have a better idea of the better building process.
Has anybody succeeded to actually get this thing into the air? I attempted to fly it with reccomended motor and esc and it just didnt have enough balls to stay up. I read that the 3 blade fan needed a higher kv motor so I got a 5 blade fan and it blew apart in about 5 seconds. Im not putting any more money into this one until I can be assured it will at least not be underpowered let alone fly
quiero pedirme este f16 de fibra,me puede aconsejar alguien que combinacion motor ,esc y bateria poner para que este avion viaje a la velocidad del sonido?
ok what i usually do when its impossible to find info on a plane... you build a flat platform with two sticks on each side that are wide enough to pu the plane on and it much touch only center of the wings stand would look something like this |_| make sure all the electronics are installed.. motor/servos/esc/and whatever you want to put. only after that you put this plane on the stand and blance it so that the front and back stay parallel to the ground...
i think this is not the info seemore has expected ... think he like to know WHERE the correct CG is for this plane ... i can't give you the answer - only what i will do to get it:
use the 1/3 rule ... take the length of the wing where it is mounted to the fuse - and mark the 1/3 point seen from the leading edge ... this will be a good choose for the first flight ..
you will see the behavior of the plane - follow the well known method to adjust the correct cg (compare normal and invert flight, see what happen at no and full throttle, .....)
the correct cg for my two f-16 (other size and type) is nearly arround this point - so it will be a good staring point ...
Hello received mine. Packing and quality are good. Finish from my point of view is better than HET one.
I weighted mine:
Fuselage:363g
Elevator:37g
wing: 91g
Fin: 73g
Turbine (unbalanced):65g
Canopy: 25g
Exhaust cone: 22g
Accessories: 52g
Total weight: 728g
A/C looks good but RED CARD because there is no instruction.
Please HK but instructions on-line.
Hi does it come with the Thunderbird paint scheme or grey like pic? Because some posted a build slide and it was the Thunderbird scheme.(look in the file tab).
Work is currently in progress, I have currently only glued the balsa bloc yesterday. I think that I will glue a brass tube in which I will put the elevator axes. I think the drilling not be symmetrical so it allow some adjustment. Will see if it work...
Yes I just got my kit today. I see that it will be hard to drill the holes perfectly perpendicular and as you said semetrical. I wish they had pre-drill the holes.
Fuselage = 386g
Canopy = 22g
Wings (both) = 85g
Horiz Stabs (both) = 33g
Vert Stab = 71g
Tailcone = 21g
Total airframe with nothing else in it is about 620g.
Battery compartment size is 160mmx40mmx45mm. Could also put larger flatter batteries in easily as the shape of the fuselages widens so up to 60mm wide would probably be no problem.
Definantly NOT a hand launcher. Ive had 2 very simly in the past and they need a lot of speed to get her up. This is an improvment over the HET version in my opinion because of the ailerons. On 5s with a 2w-20 80a esc and HET fan, I was getting over 125mph with ease. The Price if fantastic!
also..you will need to add a spliter bar in the intake just like the real one. The spliter bar will keep the intake from collapsing from the EDFs suction, and add support on landing. It is also a very good place to install your bungee hook.
Been there, done that
I dont have a clue who makes this one. But it looks identical to one I bought about 3 years ago. It flew just fine, but was for sure heavier than the HET version. Im not knocking it. Infact Im want to buy it, but I have other larger projects on the go.
Cant beat the price
***r mans retracts. Cheaper and lighter. Just be sure to make sure engine is not turning when you touch down in the grass with the intake on the bottom.
I ordered this motor a week ago and they were advertised as 1000w. Now they are rated 600w. The 3000kv of this is not enough for 4S and the 3-blade edf. There arent many good fit motors by HK. These 2 would do : KB28-47-09S and HXT2835-3900.
Cyclone power 4100kv 1100 watt motors would be the best option but HK does not sell them.
Great looking kit. A bit on the small side though. With the high speed 3-blade edf provided, we need at least a 3800kv 1000w motor to get enough rpm and thrust to fly. A 3000KV or 3200KV motor means a 5S setup which is heavier. That means 4S 2200 40c lipo packs are the best bet. Alternatively the rclander 68mm EDF/motor combo looks ideal...
I finally received this today! I have identified the following modifications to be done: - yaw-control* will look in to building a complete new rudder section possibly with magnet fastening so it can be removed for transport. - Retracts* replace the fan/motor access hatch with a new in alu that also fits retracts... still have to work out the nosewheel
This EDF is too heavy for handlaunch, I setup with 6904 EDF,2w20 brushless motor and 3000mah nanotech ,all weight over 1400gm. My HET F16 same setup only weight 1200gm.
I used a thrust tube but not with the supplied sheet. Used sone light plastic sheet wrapped with hobby king 25mm fiber tape. Worked great! Better compression of the air and greater jet sound! My setup used nanotech 6cell 2650mah with the alloy 70mm 10 blade fan sold here at hobby king too! Flies like a bullet!

Ok first off there are no directions. Alot of the assembly is up to you for example its not clear where the edf unit goes or how it mounts. Same with the servos, there doesnt seem to be spot for them. The canopy doesnt have any way to mount it that I can see. It comes with magnets but where do they go? No landing gear, you get what in the images and nothing more. It will be a fun project for some and something that never gets in the air for some others.

It finally took the air after an unlucky first attempt during which I broke a wing. It has to be bungee launched with my setup to get a good elevator response on start.
Setup:
- EDF FAN 6904
- Motor: HET 2W20
- LiPo 3300mAh turnigy 30-40c
- 100Amps ESC
- CG 70mm at wing root
- Elevator 18mm travel
- Airleron 7mm travel
Behavior in flight is pretty good but need to be trimmed pitch up. Plane is fast and you easily lost him if you go too far away due to its small size....
First landings are a bit hard as the plane is coming fast but after few runs you are able to master beast ! :)
Nice little jet with good flying characteristics for the price, I will recommend !
