My Super Cub was built from laser cut ply and balsa, covered with a very good covering. For an ARF I found it comes 95% finished. Just attach the wings and include your own Motor. Speed control, Servos. All hardware is included.
In my opinion this is the BEST ARF I have purchased and the price is very low for the overall quality.
I installed the Suggested Motor: Turnigy G60/300KV size for low RPM and use the Suggested Prop: 15X10 * 23 Amp 470-Watt with a 5 Cell 5000Mhr flight battery. Also works the best with 14x8, 14X10 * 22Amp 425Watts, 15X8 * 18.5Amps 375Watt, or 16x10 propellers.
I fly FPV with a camera onboard, takeoff, fly, and land, all with the Pilots View from the Air Craft. The weight of the Flight Ready Piper is 11.2 Lbs with all my FPV gear.

Also notice on the pic showing the underside of the wing, that it has a semi- symmetrical airfoil? Not a Clark-Y flat bottom like the real cub. I think this is a good thing as a model will be a bit smoother and more aerobatic, less ballooning on landing etc. can anyone confirm this?
It looks like it would be easy to add flaps. Looks like just cutting the ailerons in half and adding 2 servos would do it.
Anybody have any input on this?
Actually this is a Clipped Wing Cub, in Supercub paint. Look at the aspect ratio of the wing, way too short to be a Supercub. They also need to add negative-G sub-struts so you don't fold the wings inverted. The gear is weak and looks anemic! Bit it is a good ARF with a little work, beef it up a little with stronger gear and fat Cub tires. Then some dummy engine cylinders on the side of the cowl... Bingo instant Clipped Wing Cub! It would be more scale and fun to go fly the doors off it!
I am going on 100 days since I bought this plane. Anybody have an idea of if/when these will be in? I guess 50 days for goods to arrive does not apply to this.
7/7/2011 I bought this plane Feb 5th. It is now over 155 days on backorder. I kind of wanted it to fly this summer. As it is looking I may be lucky to get it by Christmas. I think I will cancel this order and always wonder how goods available in 50 days works. Just pathetic.
Did live chat and after a bunch of double talk with no answer about goods available in 50 days I cancelled the order. This must be the special treatment as a Platinum member that they say I am to get.
On 7/13/2011 was told on live chat that since I paid so long ago on 5Feb2011 (with Paypal) that it would be 4 weeks to get my refund. What a way to do business. I wonder how it would be if I were not a Platinum member.

Why would you give a one star rating to a plane you never saw or got? Put it in discussions not ratings.
reply from crfd:
The rating is for the company, my experience and the plane. The plane gets the star, the company and my experience with them gets 0 stars. I purchased a Hanger 9 80" Cub and wow am I glad I did!! Well worth the extra 43 dollars. I wish you guys all y=the luck in getting your plane from HK. I do hope it works out for you. It does 43 dollars. I wish you guys all the luck in getting your plane from HK. I do hope it works out for you. It does look like a nice plane... I just don't want to wait 3-4 months for a plane. I also wonder about spare parts??
Good luck to all of you. I would love to see a video of your new cub from HK!! Cillax Flyboy69 it's ok to have discussion here also.
You can put a gas engine on anything, just not a big gas engine like a 30cc. A glow .60 with a big 14x4 will fly it all day. I would use a .90 4-stroke.
Hi, Dave
You've got yourself a darn good looking plane, and you won't find a better price. I couldn't pass it up either, so I have one on the way. Punch the N number into a search engine and you can see the real deal. The scale and color scheme are off a bit, especially the cowl, but it's a Super Cub. I may try to copy it, if I can find a sorta scale cowl. I love these projects. Flying them is only half the fun.

Too much whining. This model looks to be well designed and it is balsa! Try building one of these by hand before you start whining. As for flaps, the wings on this thing are big enough that you could cut flaps from the ailerons with a butcher knife. I suggest that if you want "turnkey", you shop elsewhere. A Cub will takeoff and land without flaps any day of the week. I do it all of the time in my Cub on floats (full size)... An exacto knife and some creativity will make windows and model pilots and instrument panels. I think you're expecting way too much for $160 or so.
If you insist on flaps, and aren't man enough to cut them from the ailerons, try a flaperon mix on your radio.
You got it, viflyer! I studied it again today. Where the existing servo mounts are for the ailerons is perfect for flaps. Then one would need to go further out on the wing and install another servo in each wing. Not a big deal, but not trivial!
Look at the reviews and discussions on the "international" page of this model for more info. There ARE windows, they are just covered and you need to remove the film and glue the provided lexan windows. Flaps might look more "scale" and you could easily cut the full span ailerons to add some, but you really don't need. It can fly very slow as it is and can take off in just a few meters. I use a HK 42-60/500Kv running with 6s-3000mAh turning an APC 14x8 *45Apms. Flying weight 3.6Kg. And BTW, it's not balsa but mostly plywood. Great plane, I love mine! Jacques
It's made for a.61 2st or .91 4st, so while a 25cc gas will probably be heavy enough so you won't have to add nose weight, it might have just a bit too much power? Super Cub 3D? : )) J.
The manual comes with instructions on how to install a glow engine, so assuming your 17cc gas is also a axial mount, you can just follow the instructions. Make sure to change the fuel tubbing though, as the one provided with the kit is made for nitro fuel and would be dissolved by the gas fuel. The tank itself (plunger excepted) should be fine. enjoy it, it's a great flyer! J
I have a DLE30 for my plane.
:))
I will post pics and video when I get ti together and in the air

Received very quickly. This model is exactly as pictured. I found that each package of hardware contained extra screws, hinges, etc., which came in VERY handy! The model assembles well, everything is precisely cut and fitting the parts together requires precision! To me, this is a GOOD thing. The alignment of the pre-installed hardware is excellent. The workmanship is excellent. (How the end result appears is entirely up to the builder. For a change, you receive everything needed to achieve perfection. Don't grumble if you don't like it after YOU assemble it!) The application of the exterior coating is excellent. In fact, I haven't been able to find a single item to grumble about, and that's pretty unusual for me!
Of all the airplanes and helicopters I've purchased from HK (and elsewhere), this one is by far the one that makes me the happiest. I have been in RC for about 50 years, and have been a licensed pilot for 50 years as well. Of all the models I've owned, this one is the one I love!
The fit of the hardware is outstanding. The main wing spar is carbon fiber! I didn't have to sand or ream or force anything, but everything is an extremely snug fit - patience is a virtue.
(As with nearly any model, you have the option of fitting the ailerons, rudder and elevator hinges to be a very snug or a very loose fit. I installed mine with about a 3/32" gap

The 3/32" gap give an enormous amount of control surface travel and still looks good.
This is my favorite model, hands down. It is a show piece, no doubt about it. I have 10 models in our family room, including a 10 foot Bord of Time glider. But when people come to visit, they are somehow drawn to the Cub! What else can one say?
Dave.

Landing Lights!!! I installed three 10mm 35Kmcd (super bright) white LEDs for landing lights. They are wired in series, and controlled by a HK remote switch. This combination works perfectly with a 11.1V lipo. I use the gear channel on the radio to control them. If there is loss of signal, the electronic switch will flash the landing lights, a handy feature.

Some tips:
A .91 FS engine won't swing a 16x10 prop. satisfactorily. I wouldn't go with HK's suggestions on this one, I'd stay with the engine MFR's suggestions - stay in the 14" range. If you check cherry props in the 14" range, you'll see what I mean - ALL are sold out.
Scale: I checked my Super Cub's specs and scaled them to the model. A 14" prop is a perfect scaled size. 16" looks nice, but 14" matches the scale of the real airplane.
Use something like the Turnigy 15 amp UBEC if you go with a glo engine. Big servos suck big amps!
Spend a few $$$ extra ang get metal gear servos. They're about 5G heavier than the plastic/nylon gear type, not a problem with this model. I used the BMS-620MG servos, about $15 each, delivered.
