Floater-Jet EPO (ARF)

Floater-Jet EPO (ARF)
Floater-Jet EPO (ARF)

The AXN Floater jet is a perfect model for beginners. Its stable flight characteristics and forgiving handling make it the perfect platform for learning to fly. Unlike some models in its class the AXN Floater-jet comes with ailerons right out of the box. This is a critical control surface that all budding pilots should master.

Constructed from strong EPO foam with a high gloss finish the AXN Floater-Jet is capable of achieving high speeds in a small amount of space or gliding around gracefully on the breeze only needing throttle to gain altitude.

The predictable flight characteristics, low wing loading and pusher prop also make the AXN Floater-Jet an ideal platform for FPV. Using a smaller battery such as a 1600mAh to 1800mAh 3S1P will allow for additional payload in the front of the aircraft and make finding the correct CG without having to add additional tail weight easy.

The suggested motor and 5x5 propeller offer both performance and flight time based on your flying style. You will require a 2100kv Brushless outrunner, 4 x 9gram servos, a 1600mAh~2200mAh 3S1p Lipoly battery (depending on payload requirements) a 20Amp ESC and your own transmitter and receiver (Tx/Rx) to complete this model.

Proven time and time again the AXN Floater-Jet ticks all the right boxes for anyone looking to get in to the hobby as a beginner or intermediate pilots looking to get in to the exciting world of FPV flying.

The only fault i have with the plane is the battery component is kinda small. But other then that is to fly and very easy to assemble.
 wayneuk 254 points
you can easy fit a 2200 lipo in there & plenty of other stuff
ALEXANDER  2 points - 3/12/2013

I love this plane it was one of the first i had ever flown very easy and fun to fly. After a year of having this i have had no problems and fly it every weekend. Run time for me is around 20min i take it high up and just glide around the clouds. Landing is very easy and smooth and i think it is a great idea to he the prop at the back so it never breaks.
 wayneuk 254 points
we have had a few 45 min flight's with the zippy & turnigy nanotech 2200 lipos & extra weight as our fpv gear's attached with some carefull throttle control

has anyone put tail and or wind streamers on this model ? if so how long would be the max for streamers tail/wing & how would it affect flight performance ?
 shorty707 273 points
Streamers will dramtically affect performance as they really pull a lot of draft. you could try with something like 3meters - but the drag will make your flight a lot slower *)
 wayneuk 254 points
it will affect performance but she will fly so start with a bit & add to it
OldGolem  1 points - 1/22/2013

Both are good. AXN comes when there is no wind, it's more easy. Bixler can be used in wind weather, he resisted and a little heavier. Suitable both for beginners.
 wayneuk 254 points
so can the axn ive had it up to 174 km fpv-ing video on youtube user wayneuk
 OldGolem 1 points
As you like, i prefer the heavier models (now Skywalker 3kg).My children fly to AXN (stock) and Bixler2, they like Bixler2 (D2826-6 2200kv, TGS Sport 6x4E Precision, 2200 LiPo). Suitable both for beginners.
Aditya  3 points - 1/15/2013

I would rather focus on the easiness of flying the plane , rather than paying attention to FPV capabilities. Can you tell me which of these ( bixler 1.1 or AXN ) is easier to fly and not crash ? which one is more crash resilient ?
 rupert80 2 points
In my experience the AXN is much stronger than the Bixler. The foam is more resilient compared to the Bixler. Also, the Bixler is weak in the fuselage where the servos are mounted, it breaks there every time.I have had an AXN for nearly 2 years and have repaired it many times. My friend bought a Bixler and replaced it with an AXN after only 2 crashes. The AXN is far superior.
 LasseK 564 points
I had an AXN as my first plane, now I have a Bixler 2 (the AXN finally met death after numerous crashes). The Bixler basically desintegrated at my first crash on the nose into an icy field. This is the kind of crash I had with the AXN too, multiple times without it braking at all (a bit bent nose, that's all). So I agree that the AXN is much more resilient to beginner abuse than the Bixler. If you are into FPV on the other hand, I would say that the Bixler is superior to the AXN, because there is a lot more space to put equipment into the Bixler (the AXN is really limited regarding internal space, already with basic electronics the space is exhausted).
 wayneuk 254 points
& not crash you going to crash both to a certian degree mate !
Aditya  3 points - 1/14/2013

I need a beginner plane like this. Which one would be BETTER ? A Bixler 1.1 or AXN cloud floater plane?
 Casper 67 points
i think the bixler because this plane is realy fast
 LasseK 564 points
I would go for the AXN, because it's cheaper, it can take a lot of crashing without breaking, and if you use this motor: AXN-2208-2150 with a 6x5E prop, the AXN rips through the sky (this combination is faster than the Bixler 2 I have)!
 wayneuk 254 points
axn floater jet i will always own atleast one !

I ordered this plane and mistakenly ordered 3 of the 2200mAH 2s lipos instead of 3s. Will this plane fly with the 2s I ordered at a lower performance? Can I use 2 of them in serial, or will I need to order some 3s? Thanks
 alpha-madman 36 points
u need 3 cell or 4 cell 1800mah bud. use ntm 2200 2836 on 6x4 prop . cut wings 1 inch from ailerons tnen you got a fun jet .lol good luck. i also cut off motor and epoxyed plwood nose at front of hatch. pulls straight n true now .. its twice the plane now

THIS IS NOT ARF THE TITLE SAYS ITS ARF BUT ITS A KIT! BE CAREFULL WHEN U BUY Thanks Daniel
 jakobø 71 points
You are right. But looking in the specifications it clearly tells you that you need everything for it.
 beezlebub 226 points
actually, most companies define "arf" as a plane that is mostly built or requires fairly little building, but does not include electronics. you are thinking of a "pnf" which comes with everything except for the tx,rx, and battery, or an "rtf" that comes with everything you need.
Daniele  6 points - 10/26/2012

Please some advices about positioning wires and connectors between the wings. There is no room enough. I glued some velcro to keep the wings in place. Thanks.

where can you buy a spare fuselage?
 c3ajeff 25 points
Unfortunately you can't buy the fuselage by itself at this time. You can buy rudder or stab and the canopy, but that's it for body parts. It's so cheap you might as well buy the kit and you'll have the whole banana for parts.

i have problem the Elevator, it doesn't move freely what should i do? *not a glue problem
 LasseK 564 points
Remove the link rod to the servo horn on the rudder, then exercise the rudder by bending it back and forth repeatedly until the joint softens up. Do the same with elevator and ailerons as all joints are rather stiff out of the box. If a joint breaks, then use glass fiber tape to repair it (the joints will break with time, might as well put tape on from the beginning).
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 wayneuk 254 points
work all hinges free by bending back & forth then cover with a little cricket bat tape ...or check around control bar for excess glue when you glued the tail section on
 c3ajeff 25 points
I had the same problem - ELEV down throw was fine, but up was strained. I ended up cutting the ELEV tab off completely and using a few hinges. Now it flops freely and effortlessly for the servo as it should... no resistance. I left the rudder as-is since it's kind of self-centering. The AILERONS are going to get the same treatment as the ELEV.

where may i get main wing replacement?
 wayneuk 254 points
are you in the uk ? if so make me a offer
 c3ajeff 25 points
You will have to buy the kit version to get a wing replacement. Most wings (unless obliterated) should be able to be repaired however. The only body parts available at this time are the stab, rudder and canopy.

how to upgrade the power? the stock motor is not fast enough for me. can i use 4s lipo with 30A ESC?
 FlyRcFly 1744 points
Before I even try to help you. Do you have one and have you set it up stock?? I like the 30A esc. It is just I like 30amp over 20amp. This plane is not meant to be fast. If you are flying it and are bored with it then, it is time to move on to a more advanced model.
 RonRC 1993 points
RCMANIAA, I intend to use the FC 28-05 2840Kv motor (PRODUCT ID: FC2805) with the Birdie 20A ESC (PRODUCT ID: BIRD-20A) with a 6x3 prop. This combo is on my foamy F-22 and propels it along at 60mph but will do high alpha at a slow walking pace. Also, with this combo, I can put a control board on it for flight stabilization for video and fpv. Here is a video from my F-22 of a thunderstorm when the rain broke enough for me to fly. Hope this helps and happy flying!
 wayneuk 254 points
not ment to be fast ive clocked it at 170 kmh flying fpv in wind videos on youtube wayneuk

Hi all, I would like to know the distance from the shaft of the motor straight down to the tail boom. I want to know what the largest diameter prop I can run would be. Thanks and Happy flying!
 ANDY in c.a.p 329 points
the bigest i have seen anybody run is a 6in prop and i think that is the bigest you can fit
 RonRC 1993 points
If you have one of these, could you measuring the distance between the center of the motor to the top of the tail boom?
 DriesRC 285 points
that would be handy for me too :) I'm interested in this one for some FPV flying
 RonRC 1993 points
Does someone have one of these that wouldn't mind measuring between the top of the boom to the motor shaft?
 glenn_mech 288 points
i measured mine..6" propeller will be enough..

Flew my AXN glider today, epic fail, it launched beautifully and sounded great, but the wings came off mid flight, I did not glue them or tape them before flight, didn't think I had to because everything fit nicely with the carbon rod connecting the wings and interlocking in the middle. Short story, no damage to the plane, its VERY sturdy, but the rubber band that holds the propeller came off and had no spares. Has anybody used any different prop holder other then putting the rubber band holder around the propeller to hold it in place during flight?
 conor 19 points
you can get spare bands and props they are very cheap, you can also use a 3mm colet adapter, this will hold the prop in place nicely...

 brett 15 points
yes i took the one that came on Turnigy L2210A-1650 Brushless Motor i order for my other plane it fit perfect use stock blade with no shaft adapter so any prop adapter for 3mm shaft will work

i started out with it, its simple to build and flys nice and slow on about 50pcnt throttle, it will also handle nicely for the first few flights, then as you get more experienced you can up the throttle and see how fat it can actually go. it is a really well made plane and very easy to fly. total assembly should take about 1-2 hrs.
 c3ajeff 25 points
If you assemble this *correctly* in 1-2 hours, you're superhuman. More like 3-5 hours to do it right. You will have to solder longer wires for the motor and fish them around to the front or where ever you put your ESC. I guess if you throw it together without regard to detail and finish, maybe 2 hours...

can someone tell me ths CG.......Please

 Wazza_99 864 points
51.5 mm, range 49-55 mm from LE depending on your hardware. I use 2200mah 3s batteries to obtain it, it is mostly just where the spar resides.
 brett 15 points
2.2 3 cell is perfect i CG mine dead on with spare they fly so nice i got 2
 glenn_mech 288 points
i use 50mm from LE of the wing..flies great.

Is there any way to remove the prop adapter from a BIX or SKY Surfer motor shaft I have tried a gear puller no luck

no there not i have tried but the shaft is still long enough to put reg prop adapter

2 thumbs up!
I bought this kit as a trainer for a friend getting into the sport. I wanted something that was affordable, easy to build yet challenging enough to be fun, have predictable flight characteristics and be capable of both fast and slow flight. After a couple flights, I have to say I'm very impressed! The kit arrived in perfect condition - double boxed with lots of protection, and although the box was slightly dented the kit was untouched. It came with 2 props, all the control rods and servo couplings, a servo Y-cable, a metal motor mount on the firewall and even a couple prop saver bands (but because it's an ARF, no motor, servos etc. The control rods for the rear surfaces are pre-installed very nicely, and there's a very big, chunky carbon rod for a wing spar. To complete the aircraft I also bought a HobbyKing 25 amp ESC, a C20 2000kv motor, 4 x HXT900 servos, a 3mm prop saver and a pair of Turnigy 1600mah 3S lipos. The design of the kit is very impressive, and full of clever details. There are cutouts in the wings for the aileron servos, with a small mound to protect the servo horn, and a track cut into the moulding for the servo wires and plugs. The 2 halves of the wings clip together inside the fuselage like 2 halves of a puzzle piece for a nice stiff positive connection which can still be simply removed fro transport. I intend to reinforce this connection further with a c

1 thumbs up!
Great little plane. With a 2200 3S Lipo I can get 30 minute flights. I found best set up was with 15 expo on all controls - flys like its on rails. Caution - if you buy the ARF version, check the stiffness of both the control surface hinges, and also of the push rods. I had an elevator servo strip because the control rod linkage was stiff - didn't think to check as was all set up when received.
My first Cloudsfly was destroyed in a midair with a large petrol model - have just ordered a replacement.
For hand launch use 50 throttle, otherwise high thrust line will drive it into the ground.

I was looking for a plane to use with arduino and actually I would like to use the ardupilot. I have studied the UAV planes for long distance flights to various waypoints and the AXV Floater seems to be just the one. I recommend this to anyone to use as a UAV plane.

I am at the stage of fitting the motor wires up the hole provided.I found that the wires are too short and had to make up a extension for the 3 wires to the motor . I then found the hole too small to feed the wires up. .The connecters wont go through the hole in the plastic motor mount so had to put a hot sharft down to make room for the 3 connectors. Myother consern is that there no room under the center of the wing to take the plugs and wire . Very little room to work on the model to place the ESC with a bit of velcrome . I like the plane and look forward to my first flight. It was well packed to travel to New Zealand .
