Andrew, I ran them in a big EDF. The amp draw was up..over 140 amps when they failed, Ramtec with a Neu motor. I have run them in lower amp draw conditions and they work just fine. I run the Nano's when I need to run batteries hard.
I just received one of these batteries a few days ago. I installed a Traxxas connector, charged it up, and ran it in my 8ight-e today. It ran great for about 8 minutes and then it died. When I connect it to my charger it gives me a connection error now. It checks 15.?v at the connector, but when you squeeze it on the wire end it drops to 11.?v so I assume it has a bad connection somewhere. Very disappointed in this purchase. I will be sticking with the Turnigy 4s 4500mah hardcase packs that have served me very well for the last year.
unfortunately the zippy 40C 4S 5000mah lipos have a 1 cell defect that has not been corrected yet. As soon as a high amount of amperage goes thru the tabs, (the weak link in the tabs/solder joints)* melts it in a few seconds. I suggest buying 2 2S 5000mah 40C zippy's and run them in series. I have had no problems with the over 10 packs I have, not a one!!
If you are using the "universal" traxxas connectors (with interchangeable tips) on your batteries throw them out. Have the exact plug type needed soldered on. Great idea by traxxas but they don't maintain a good connection.
that is not a "traxxas" plug but, it is a "venom" brand plug you are referring too. traxxas doesnt make any kind of plug but their own TRX plug. also most cell you get from any brand has a chance of throwing cells and breaking tabs. I personally only buy Zippy 5000mah 40C and 45C 4S lipos and havent had a bad battery yet. on the other hand I have had 5 outta 6 turnigy nano packs puff cells, throw cell tabs and just die for no apparent reason. I know it isnt my charging or use or else the zippy's would also do that. make your up your own mind but personally for me* you'll never see me with anything but a zippy.
Also, I only use traxxas brand connectors (not the cheap wannabe copies those are ****!) and have not a problem with them. if you are having problems with fitting the large wire onto the tab of the connector just tin the wire with flux and solder and after it cools, take a dremel tool and grind some of the tinned are to make it better fit into the hole where the tabs go. I have done all mine, my friends and even some racers at the track that use 8-10 guaged wire packs and they dont have any problems anymore.
This battery is ok. For the average sport flyer they will probably work out. 2 of the batteries I order dropped a cell...no good. When you put these batteries on high power (high amp draw) they just won't hold up.
Are you sure you lipo cut wasn't set too low?
I have 2 of these getting beat to piss in a XTM Rail with a MMM on a 2200KV geared 14/46 and these packs stay cooler than the 30C equivalents I use.
I totally enjoy thees pack and about to order more for the price of 1 * a brick and mortar I can score 3 of these easy.
To bad our home land restricts the rights and over taxes manufacturing or else it would all be made here.
It can take a 6S Lipo and is hella fast doing so.
Al tho I recommend a custom Aluminum battery tray I Broke the plastic and that sent the lipo into the spur and FIREBALL EXCITEMENT ensued.
With about $15 * home depot scored some 1/8 thick 2 inch wide aluminum strip then whent to town.
Having a buddy with a heliarc helps.
Chad, yes, totally my fault on my response. The Venom universal connector for Traxxas type plugs do not maintain a good connection... Correct it is not a Traxxas plug.

Great battery. Purchased two of them and they are still alive and doing well. Purchased 2 Nanotech, same capacity, same discharge which have been treated the same as these and both Nanotech puffed. Just ordered another one of the Zippy.
