Can someone tell me what amp esc would be safe to use with this motor? Application is for a 45" boat
 Gary 3001 points
The max current of this motor is 105amps,so I would look at the Turnigy 120amp marine controller Part#TR-M-120A,should be perfect.
 TristanJones 49 points
Id go for the T180, my t120 gets very hot on 4s in stock genesis.....

 jeffrey 669 points
This motor is only good for 22 volts not enough for top speed.Need a motor in the 2000Kv range on 6s for high speed.JK.

Would this motor and a 150A esc be good to convert a baja b5? I'm thinking 6s. If not, any suggestions for hobby king gear to do this? Thanks.
 bananabender 130 points
should be ok details say max of 105 amps just make sure the esc can handle 6s power

can i use this motor in a genesis rc boat and what do u think the average speed will be.
 saviour 1 points
i bought this motor to use it on my 4 ft boat with a turnigy 180a ESC and a 6 cell lipo and it turned out a disaster after 3 minutes the boat stopped and i found the motor full with smoke and very hot, i was very disappointed about this and the motor cant be repaired. This means that this motor cant handle a 6 cell lipo... now i am running with a 1090kv leopard wit the same set up and i m very happy with it having no trouble at all...

Do you mean Leopard? Which ESC and batery? realy 150 km/h?
 Micho69 274 points
yes ! I do not know exactly-I read it on the German rc boats forums.
 Micho69 274 points
There was reported there only motor us particular. Not the ESC and batteries in particular.

Hallo Stefan,

teraz zač*al leopard vyrabať* verziu 4092 1730 Kv a má* to vykon 4200 W pri hmotnosti 492 g!! To je lepš*y motor ako tento. Je podobny ako Turnigy SK3 Fandrive - 3994-850kv.lenž*e ma straš*ne hrubu hriadel.

What application is this for? 200mm fans?
 DannyB. 54 points
Looks more like a nice motor for a BIG brushless boat on 6S or a 1/5th scale car brushless conversion.
 Straight Up 743 points
I believe it would work well in a "standard" 127mm ducted fan (old 5-inch type that used to be glow powered). Haoye also make a 5" fan that would be appropriate. Power rating looks very conservative. Put a wrap-around heat-sink on it and the high airflow in the duct will keep it happy. 4kW should be possible, if not more. I use a 650g outrunner in a Ramtec and it's happy at 6.5kW. Weight is obviously not the determining factor, but it's a good indicator.

I think i may order one of these in the future JUST TO SEE WHAT IT WILL DO TO A SAVAGE XL 3-speed.
 bongsky007 92 points
How can this motor handle 6s if the voltage limit is only 22v? 6s reaches more than 25v if fully charged..
 Straight Up 743 points
Bongsky, possibly best if you asked the question separately - click the link at the top-right of this discussion. Anyhow, voltage limits on motors are more a guide for practical rpm. They don't suddenly blow-up if you exceed the specified limit. The motor is limited by heat build-up, which is related to POWER and EFFICIENCY. You can run it on 9S if you use the right prop to keep the power and hence the heat in check. Applies to all electric motors.
 bongsky007 92 points
Straight-up, It's what on the specs said "max voltage limit 22v". We all don't know if this really can handle up to 9s.. it was a new product of turnigy and more like a replica of Leopard.. I know leopard 5674 1100kv can handle up to 9s but this one we can't still say unless someone tried this running more than 6s!hehe! Anyway, thanks for very useful information!
 Straight Up 743 points
Yeah Bongsky, I don't understand why they give voltage "limits". Give us the power limit and Kv - it's all we need. Glad you found my reply useful. Happy flying!
 Jan 23 points
I think, this is Leopard LBP5674/3Y, so, maximum should be 10s....
