So I don't know how some people are able to review things they have not bought from HK, but here's my review.
Rating: 4 starrs ****
I bought it new/unused frome someone else. The mounting holes were not tapped all the way, they had unfinished threads. The bearings chatter a little which can be helped with a mix of WD-4D and graphite powder. Max amp rating is accurate as the motor steadily heats to too hot to touch after a minute or so of 78A on 6s lipo (most motors can handle 200 degrees F. Turns a APC 11X14 10,400 rpm at 78A on 6s with throttle left over. I peaked it to 91A for a few seconds and it handled that fine. I estimate the torque with the above load to be around 11.5 lb-in, but APC says it is about 7 lb-in (pound inches.
I am trying to compare a neu motors 1907 2Y motor. I need 675W of power running a 11/6 3 blade propeller on a sea plane. I will use a 5s 5000mah battery with this motor, which motor will be the best from your selections at hobby king??
Oops My bad itsw a 1.58 cheaper for the SSS5684 (water jacket)added cost. SSS 5684 800kv 6 pole brushless motor SSS 5684 6 pole 800kv motor. Type: 5684 KV: 800 Y/D: 4.5D Max Amp (A): 161 Max Volt (V): 62 Max Power (W): 10000 Max RPM: 50K Non Load Current (A): 1.4 Shaft Diameter (mm): 8 Motor size diameter x length (mm): 56*84 Gross weight (g): 738
5 dollars more and I can buy the SSS5684 and HERE are Its specs.SSS 5684 6 pole 800kv motor. Come with aluminum billet water cooling jacket. Motor mount not included. Type: 5684 KV: 800 Y/D: 4.5D Max Amp (A): 161 Max Volt (V): 62 Max Power (W): 10000 Max RPM: 50K Non Load Current (A): 1.4 Shaft Diameter (mm): 8 Motor size diameter x length (mm): 56*84 Gross weight (g): 738 And I don't get ripped off on the shipping!
I'm still trying to figure out why Hobbyking sells this motor but no 6mm pinion gears??
How am I supposed to even use this for a 1/5 scale conversion if they don't have any pinions
I'm thinking that 300K/v would be better for a heavy boat with a large propeller. It would certainly be better for my application (30Kg). The shaft size is a worry so I don't think I'll go for this motor.
Clayton, this is a high voltage motor so you could run it in any RC, land/sea/air, with a high cell count like 8-10S. Use a Swordfish HV ESC in a boat as the HV ESC HK offers seems to have issues. I might even use a swordfish ESC when Losi finally releases the 5ive T for a nice conversion.
What ESC are you using? I was looking at the "Fatboy" they sell on here. Seems like one could keep mechanical breaks as that is the reason most sea/air ESC's fail when using them in a car. I used a Turnigy-180 ESC on 4S in my Muggy conversion and it was all good until I used the breaks. The ESC would heat up immensely.
To be honest I am using a 200 amp hobbyking esc(Its only 29.99) with excellent results. I have used it to over amp motors and it seriously bearly heats up . Its good anywhere from 2s to 8s . I would try 10s if the motor I bought didnt have such high hv. you gotta remember the higher the voltage the lower the amps are gonna be . I will mod the controller with a cpu fan if I notice the heat going up . (I don't think it will if I use high voltage and lower kv motors) If I had a electric go kart I would use the fatboy.
Agreed, Low KV motors require less amperage which is why people are blowing the CC XL ESC with their 780KV motor. That combination with the included pinion gear draws over 200A at normal operation. This system would draw around 150A(estimated) on 8S and you could gear it higher to compensate for speed of the 780KV motor while still getting more run time than the CC system. But for some reason people are so fixated on "speed runs". I'll take reliable, usable power over speed runs any day!!
Hi folks, I would like to use this motor in a plane, but I have no ideia in what model could I use... what do you suggest me? what ESC and battery should I use??
