Be aware!! This is NOT a "Tuned Pipe"!! It is a canister. It will not increase RPM like a tuned pipe does. It is simply a canister for noise reduction. If it is simply an empty canister, the RPM will not drop much. But if it has noise reducing baffles (true muffler canister) then it will REDUCE the RPM by 100-200 RPM. Since this is not a tuned pipe, header length does not matter at all.
ken is a tool...header length always matters..its a bit too short...should be nearly double..around 800mm from piston to middle or reflection point...(end of can)...your welcome
This may not be a tuned pipe as such, but it has increased the peak RPM of a DLE 55 turning a 22x8 from 6900 with standard muffler, to 7400. It is also noticeably quieter.
Yes. It will increase from stock muffler RPM. The stock muffler reduces RPM a little. Since this is a straight throw pipe, it does not resist exhaust flow. This means you will see an increase in RPM from stock muffler to this canister. The sound is definitely better with this canister. I have one on my DLE 55, I like the sound! :)
The header will be stainless steel and the pipe will be an aluminium alloy. It's not that simple though for the prurposes of welding etc. there are many different grades of both material and to effectively weld you'd need to know the grade. Hope this helps you. Johno
Check the distance between the two exhaust bolts. If 40mm it will fit. The cannister is the correct size for any 50cc motor. Distance between the exhaust outlet and cannister start around the bend have to be 400 to 410mm.
Will work well. The distance between the motor exhaust outlet and the cannister front has to be 400-410mm arround the bend. This will give a lot of torque and a good performance.
I don't think HK will sel an exhaust that look like a cannister. Shurely it is. The header that comes with it is made to the correct lenth for a 50 - 60cc motor.
Edge540T-Do you mean 400-410mm from flange to motor to the teflon coupler? Do you happen to have an Extreme Flight Edge 540T plane? If so your thoghts on it would be great! Like coupleing and CG location. I plan on putting this can with my BME 58 in the Edge 540T 88"! Thanks for the help Edge540T and let me know how they work for you alex from africa!
Daveyboycfs. Sorry for freply so late. The distance is from the exit of the motor where the manifold header bolts on. Use manifold header and pipe as is. Do not cut any thing. I have an 100 cc Extreme comp EDGE 540 T running on a 3W 106. I am planning two of these canisters on the EDGE as an upgrade.
Ok, Finally received my canisters today, (thanks to SAPO strike)and they look great , well made , but I can definitely say they are NOT tuned canisters, will have them fitted in a week or so and test to make sure , A tuned canister has a series of "Tapers" inside to create a venture effect, this is simply a big expansion chamber, should work great on noise reduction though!
Yes martin, this will fit the TGY52 i have one and dl engines, same fitting sept the TGY has slight angle in exaust port, and this is ideal,it ignores any angles cos of the flx header, I use them for that reason,, how is your TGY going, mine is pretty good, good luck with your engine
rod you may need diffrent headers, but the canister in pairs will be fine,, the header will depend on the position, lay out of the model,, me personally,,i have headers just for my dle111
Yes, They need to learn the difference,Big difference in engine performance between tuned pipe and canister!! I was quite excited ....for about 5 sec till the picture came www.link
Big difference between normal box muffler, canister and a tuned pipe. Muffler purpose to silence, but still noisy. Canister does silence a lot but will increase power (revs may increase IE from 6000 to 6400rpm). A Tuned pipe silences and can increase power & revs very well dependent on motor porting and header length - 30% plus.
no ross, you need diffrent headers for the DLE/DLA 111/112 twins, the canisters them selves is fine tho, i wonder if HobbyKing will get the headers in for Us soon,.
I hope so, or sell the units inderpendantly,, would be ok too.

1 thumbs up!
Purchased this canister in the hope of reducing some noise on a DLE-55. Doesn't reduce the noise at all but does improve the performance over the standard muffler. You will need to purchase or manufacture a mount for the canister which is what I did. The flex header pipe is a bit thin and creates a tinny sound. I gooped it up with some silicon to help reduce the noise which worked. For the price you get what you pay for. I am quite happy but if you are trying to reduce noise, it's not the right choice.
Excelente produto. Uns dizem que abafa o som e deixa mais bonito o barulho. Outros dizem que a performance do motor melhora. Que vai ficar mai bonito o meu Sbach, vai.
Make sure your cowl has plenty of room in side, due to the angle of the header pipe pointing down and the extra diameter of the flexible tubing it will not fit in side the HK Sukhoi - 26 cowl with out cutting away the cowl,
I now have 2 header pipes from HK i can not use. I have since ordered a pitts muffler from DL engines and decided not to use a canister. might use the canister space for smoke depending on COG. other wise the product looks and fells o/k overall rating only 3 because i have not used it.
