Hello A few weeks ago I bought this engine Along with turnigy dlux 160A After assembly and testing it is squeaking sound. I tried all the options of the esc has not worked until I changed the Castle Creations 120A Now works great I do not recommend to combine this engine with this esc because it does not fit.

I used FURABA ESC MC9100A with 2 x 5S Zippy 4500 Compact 35C , it is squeaking sound occurred over 7000rpm . Does someone know whether the TURNIGY Sentilon100A HV can suit this motor?
Anton  7 points - 2/3/2013

Test on the ground. Rotomax 1.40, Popeller 18 x 10. The TURNIGY K-Force 120A-HV OPTO, and 2 x 5S Zippy 4000 Compact 25C, measured 45 Amps and 1550 watts. The Rotomax makes a good impression.
stevew  17 points - 1/6/2013

I also had the squeaking sound (out of sync)problem using my hacker esc. Tried timing from 5 to 30 degrees tried 8Khx and 16Khz, still no good.
Changed to a Castle 110HV ESC, set to Normal timing and 8Khz and it now runs PERFECT.
10S lipo 20x11 prop runs at 70 Amps
Love these Rotormax also have 2 50cc versions which are excellent.

Hi Guys. Im planning to use this motor with the 120A HV reccommended ESC on a Blue Ultimate Bi-Plane (1.20 Four stroke). I would like to use a 3bladed prop. If a 19/10 two blade is the right one, what am I looking for in a 3 bladed prop? What is the formula? Im thinking 16/8 3blade??
ishady  340 points - 10/29/2012

Hi guys, please give me some enlightment before I buy this motor, could I use esc 100-120amp (any type except dlux), 10s lipo, prop apc 20x13 and the setup would be normal and wont burn? Thanks guys, very appreciated.
 Gary 3001 points
This motor is rated to a max of 75amps continuos,with a 10s lipo and a 20 x 13 you will be drawing 127amps,this will burn the motor out.With a 10s lipo and a 18 x 10 prop you will get 2672 watts at 73amps.On a 19 x 8 prop you will get 2656 watts at 72amps.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Would you think it wil be better with Turnigy Rotomax 1.60 then? Thank you again
 Gary 3001 points
Yes,this would be better, although motorcalc still calulates the 1.60 with a 21 x 13 will still run more than the recommended 80amps,so would still prefer to use a 21 x 10 or similar.

Hi There.
Can someone please tell me if this motor is the correct size and power output for my RV-8 30cc 2m wingspan?
 __RRAP 43 points
Hello! any help here?????
 diy-pro 290 points
Might be under powered. Check what the power difference is between 1.4 glow engine and 30cc
 diy-pro 290 points
Better yet does your 30cc push a 20x11 prop or larger?
 __RRAP 43 points
I dont know the difference between 30cc gas and 1.4 motor, Do you know, and can you give me the figures. I can use up to a 21inch prop.
 __RRAP 43 points
I havent got a 30cc engine. I only use electrics. But this plane,RV-8 2,050m wingspan can take electric set-up, but is says equivilent to 30cc. I dont know the engine capacity in 2stroke, 4stroke or gas. Please can someone explain in detail.
 diy-pro 290 points
www.link look here. From what they say 1.4 glow is in the ball park of a 30cc
 diy-pro 290 points
rcgroups com/forums/showthread.php?t=1528523 but it might be under powered I would go with 1.6 rotomax

Hello, I have the same probleme with my DLUx 120HV, i have a rotomax 1.40. I have change the ESC with an DYMOND 100A OPTO and i have no problem, the DLUX ESC doesn't work correcly with this motor! I have sent an email to HK because it's not normaly.
 Spool 6 points
You two are probably having Timing problems. Just change the timming configuration on you ESC and try again. Programming Options. Battery Type: 6S~12S Forward/Reverse Soft Start LV Cut off Type (Ignore, Reduce Power, Stop Motor) LV Cut off setting (2.5~3.5v in 0.1v increments) Timing (Auto, Very Low, Low, Normal, High, Very Hgh) Switching (8,16kHz) Factory Restore Active RPM Control: On/Off (Governor Mode) Using a Soft Start might also help. Good luck!

At this amperage etc.. What connectors are we talking about for battery?
 frogs 161 points
Use 5.5mm bullet connectors or larger. You can also use two 4mm bullet connectors in parallel.

thank you moggs but i think i have it fixed i just have never come across it before i put a throttle curve in my radieo so at full throttle im only getting 80% it still gives me 22-2300 wats witch will be good and does not cut out anymore should get around 7 min fly time
 Moggs 25 points
Yep, Leroy, throttling back as you have done sort of illustrates that the motor wanted more power, a higher C rating on your batteries may also work if the ESC will pass the power through :)
 leroy 8 points
no i think my problem was diff. i was getting to much power the motor is rated 2700 watts and i was getting close to 3000 watts at full throttel, been doing fine since i set the curve all kinds of power thank you!! getting 10 min or better fly time
 Moggs 25 points
Thanks for feedback Leroy, I'm currently setting up a couple of 1.20s, one 3D one sport scale... Handy going to school with another guys findings... The 3D may become a 1.40.. :)

can the shaft of this motor be pushed out the othere side ? its not for aplane so i will need to conect the geer of apower tool to the othere side of the motor. usuly motors have the shaft comoing out of the non turning part of the motor.
leroy  8 points - 3/9/2012

could anyone tell me why my 1.40 keeps cutting out when i go full throttle or runover half for a short time im running the recomended set up 10cell 5000mah 20x11 prop and the hv 120 amp esc motor is not hot or esc at just about full befor it cut out it was putting out 2900 watts and 79amps
 Moggs 25 points
Leyroy, when one of my motors did the cut out thing, it was a shortage of power. Battery or connections not passing enough juice... Maybe wire or the ESC too... Your problem could be different..

Shaft 8mm Tapped for 4mm spinner ? so is half the shaft ground away to get 4mm tapp. photo doesnt look like it any 1 know ?
 T.rex.450 175 points
They drilled a hole in the shaft that is 4mm so you can use a 4mm screw to secure the spinner.
 Kellyann 16228 points
KaosKane listing does say ""tapped to suit a 4mm bolt to make fitting a spinner of your choice easy."" Not a 4mm spinner. So it is thread on the outside and thread on the inside. I have not used that type of spinner for years. I remember the old alloy ones that had a cap nut that went on prop shaft the a bolt on in the cap nut went up through the nose cone. I hope this helps. GOOD PICK UP
mark  7 points - 11/24/2011

What size spinner does this motor use?
 Kellyann 16228 points
Mark any size you plane wishes or needs. With a 4mm bolt holding it is place it could be a small as 40mm or as large as 100mm. I hope this helps

I just purchased this motor with a 10 Cell battery and 120A Turnigy Dlux ESC. I plan on using this set up on a 73' MX2. It's a 28-30cc Airplane that I want to run electric. It's a claimed 10lbs flying weight. Anyone know if this set up will give me serious 3D?
 Bezold 39 points
At the maximum rated power of 2775 watts with the suggested propeller you should be able to reach 5-7 kg of thrust depending on your battery and esc so with an auw of 10 lbs you should be able to reach a power/weight ratio of around 1.1 - 1.5 to 1. This should be sufficient for just about anything short of competition flying.

Hi Mark, I purchased the 1.20 version with the Turnigy dlux 120 esc and it just doesn't work, all the settings are right but the esc annd the motor are simply incompatable. Motor just stutters and squeals (timing issue) if you go from anything less than half throttle to full throttle. Did your set up work? if it didn't did you find an esc that was compatable?
 mark 7 points
thanks Bezold!
Myckey... My motor and dlux 120A esc work well together, and im getting serious thrust using a 20X10 prop. However, check your battery. I notice while setting up my servos using only a 4s lipo, the set up will not work. What size battery are you using?
 Myckey 19 points
Hi Mark, I'm using a 19 X 10 prop and getting the same serious thrust, just that to get there I can only advance the throttle verrrry sloooowly, it's not the batteries, tried 8 vell rhino 3700 mah 25 - 30 C and turnigy nano tech 3000 mah 25 - 50C's, all balanced and fully charged known good batteries. Don't forget I've got the 1.20 version, now come to the conclussion that it's simply an incompatability issue, thanks for your reply.
 Bezold 39 points
Myckey I've had similar issues with smaller motors. You might try switching the PWM frequency if you haven't already. Also, a few times I've solved the issue by disassembling the motor and stripping the coils off of it then rewinding with slightly heavier gauge wire and using a wye termination instead of a delta which most turnigy motors use. Esc's tend to sense position better at higher speeds with the wye termination. Also check that the magnets are perfectly spaced and oriented N/S/N/S all the way around as either One of those issues will cause serious acceleration problems. Turnigy has a tendency to mess up magnet placement. It's understandable though if you don't want to tear your motor apart.
 Myckey 19 points
Hi Bezoldi, good reply, yo are right though I don't want to get into reworking the motor besides which these particular motors look quite difficult to get into. A better reason though is that I get exactly the same fault with a six cell set up, but, if I change the esc (and nothing else) to a turnigy 80A plush (which will only take six cells) it all works splendidly, no problem at all. This fault also replicates with no prop on at all so it isn't an overoptimistic prop that's causing the fault either. Both the timing, auto, medium and high have been tried as has the two (8khz and 16khz) frequencies with every variation thereof. I'd go with the algorithm not being compatable which can't be re written, I'm trying to get hobby king tech team to ask the desigbners what esc they used to test it with, don't mind incompatability issue if I can buy an esc that I KNOW will function correctly. Thanks for your help, it's appreciated.
 mark 7 points
Myckey, Guess what, went to test again before maiden flight and my motor stutters and sqeals too! It stutters as you begin to wind it up, then as its put under load it sqeals, like the insides spin but not the prop and bell housing. I will try adjusting the timing but am now very disappointed in this motor. I will get back to u if I can find the issue.

it's your esc change to a different one.

Is this listed wrong? title says 1.40 but its bigger than the previously listed 1.6 rotomax surely this is the 1.60 version

Check specs again, smaller and lighter than the 160 version???

Après 10 vols sur un avion maquette de 8 kgrs ce moteur est parfait. Fonctionnement très silencieux et absence de vibration. Configuration APC 19*10 10S 5000mAh Env 30 A Puissance env. 1100 W. Une 20*11 serait donc parfaite pour atteindre 2000W pour des vols plus acrobatiques. After 10 flights this motor run perfectly and whitout any disturbing noise. Light configuration : APC 19*10, 10S 5000 mAh, Current 30 A, Power roughly 1100 W. This is enough for realistic flight on a 8 kgrs airplane but not for extrem aerobatics For more aerobatics a 21*11 Propeller should be better.
