OK I JUST TESTED THIS MOTOR OUT ON A TALON 90 ESC WITH A TURNIGY NANO-TECH 4000MAH 6S 25C LIPO AND I STARTED SMOKING WHEN I WAS ON FULL THROTTLE FOR TEN SECONDS. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY HOBBYKING? THESE MOTORS ARE A LEAP IN MOTOR QUALITY AND DESIGN? BS!!!!!!! LOOKS LIKE EXTREME FLIGHT WAS RIGHT. HK'S QUALITY IS THE WORST! DO NOT GET THIS MOTOR!!! DO NOT!!!! IT IS HORRIBLE!
 Dmaan 64 points
Hi William, sorry for your loss. Have lost a couple myself from magnets cutting the wires or seizing the motor. For the interest of the guys here, what prop were you running and did you take an amp reading on that prop before it smoked? Did you happen to do a look inside? Was it loose magnets or the coils shorting out? Best of luck.
 Orlando 21 points
William: What plrop were you using? Greater than 15x10 at full throttle with a 6S battery will oush or maybe exceed the limits of the motor. I hve been runing 15x10 with 6S battery and pull constant 65 Amps at full throttle* this is with an APC-E prop. I have over 100 flights on my 50-45 motor. Orlando

Since a lot of the Extreme Flight planes have very short cowling, motors need to be very short to fit. The stock motor (Torque 4016t/500) is 40mm long I think. This is 5045 so 50mm long but this can run on 7s (which I won't be doing). Will this fit in one of there 60-64 inch planes (Thinking of the 64 MXS-EXP)? If not, what will be good motor that can run on 6s, handle at least 70 amps, is smaller than 5045 dimensions, and is under 100 bucks? Sorry for the long question, but I need a prompt reply…*I will award credit!
 bradywatt23 12 points
This motor has the same mounting dimentions and has the same overall dementions. Have one in my EF 60" edge its a great fit!!

I really appreciate it bradywatt23. Now I can go buy and fly my MXS-EXP 64!!!!
 William 199 points
Just got it!!!! SO EXCITED!!! I'll do a review on the motor and the plane…*

After 4 months of running this motor, I am really impressed. I put this motor on my original design pattern airplane, 1.5m wingspan, 7 pounds and it pulls this plane around reaLly impresive. I decided to use a 15x10 APC-E prop and the following is the test data: 1425W, 6S 5,000 Lipo, turnigy 90Amp ESC, 65 amps. Really sweet, I hope this helps others out. Orlando
 Dmaan 64 points
Terrific review Orlando (should this be under the'reviews'tab?. Regardless, model, weight, prop, watts, amps, batteries and ESC and it looks like you are running close to spec which is nice to see! Let us know at the end of your season if it held together and how many flights you figure you did.

What is the largest prop I can swing with this motor? I have a 17x8 prop on it now -125amp PHX Ice - ESC. 5S 4400mAh LiPo. Flying a Hyperion Cap 580. I have a fairly short field to land in. Looking for drag so I'll try 18x10. Is this prop too big for the Motor and ESC?
 fluffy11 135 points
Well it will probably do it but, look out for the amps - and watts . if you notice a drop the prop is too big for the motor.. if you are looking for drag go to a differant pitch. the 18-10 or any 10 pitch for that matter is extremely fast, if you have a short runway, don't go to this prop.
hope this helps

7s test 16-8 ( 69a -1689w ) 15-8 ( 1489 - 61amp ) 15-6 wood(1350 - 60amp )15-7 ( 1250w 55 amp )
6s 15-8 ( 989w - 45amp ) 16-8 (1195-50amp ) this was the biggest prop I had at the moment so, I will add to it once I get some new props in
 fluffy11 135 points
final 6s tes using both a 16-10 & a 17-8
6s nano 3300 35c battery = 65 amps * 1400 watts
6s nono 3300 35c battery = 70 amps * 1580 watts

hi guys Their were a bunch of motors miss marked from the factory.. The missmark motors are really 5055-660kv. a buddy of mine just returned 1 to HK.. to let you guy no the differance between the 2 motors are ( night - day )so, if I were you RETURN IT
fluffy11  135 points - 1/15/2013

ok guys, I am blown away... I opened the motor to check the mags, and wow they have comletly changed the motor.. The motor now has a retainer holding the outside mags in place addition to 2 more magnets. after putting the motor back together I test watt - with an 16-8 on 6s 3300 35c nano - I did not reach 1350 WOW!!! it a nice change..
fluffy11  135 points - 1/8/2013

I highly recomend everyone to re-glue the magnets using JB weld my first motor spun 8 mangent - found little glue
other then this problem the motor is good.

Nice motor, runs smooth. With 15x7 APC E prop: 40 amps, 840W, HK 90-100Amp ESC, 6S 5000mah battery. Will run more tests later.

is the shaft reversible? I need the 6mm shaft on the other end. The shaft is coming out where the motor will mount on my model. Using the 3 hole threaded prop shaft will limit my options.
Anyone?
 fluffy11 135 points
yes you can reverse the shaft without a proble, in addition it came with both safts
 Dmaan 64 points
A320CA, If I understand correctly, do you mean the motor shaft needs to be reversed so you can X mount the motor and use cinch prop adapter vs the bolt on one? My problem was that I couldn't have the shaft protrude through the firewall using the X mount. I was able to reverse the shaft so it stuck out the bell end. I used my dremmel to put another flat spot on the shaft for the set screw and it worked fine. Might not help you but maybe for someone else. Cheers.
 fluffy11 135 points
hi guys, to Reverse the saft. you need to loosen both set screws holding the shaft to the housing. then by using a hammer and say a set of plyers to protect from damaging the shaft, hit the shaft back until it's into place, reset the set screws - you are good to go.

What kind of spinner fits on this motor? Alu or plastic..it doesn't matter!
 fluffy11 135 points
from the looks of the one I got I am pritty sure both would fit without a problem. I will be using the alum back plastic frount easier to tighten...

Does this come with hardware kit shown in image? If so, why to the list the "combo" Spare Accessory Pack? and at $8 its a little expensive. Thanks
 am3388 20 points

How many watts will this motor produce with a 3s lipo?
 Superelectric 279 points
with a 12X8 prop only 375watts it is not made for 3S ,it is for 5S to 7S
systemspecialis  189 points - 12/22/2011

The thing I can't understand is why the prop shaft threads are different for each end (also supplied with 2 different nuts and washers!) One is M8 & the other must be some imperial size???
Rob  163 points - 10/15/2011

Initial static results with a Turnigy Light Wood 14" X 8" on 6S are: 9130 RPM 1291 W 57 A 22.7 V My digital scale in line with the tether showed a pull of 11lb.
 Hexergy 5 points
Hello, what timing do you use? *-)
 Rob 163 points
Hi With the Turnigy Plush 80A I have it set to Medium timing and the K-Force is set to 15°*. Both have run fine with this motor.
 fluffy11 135 points

with a 15-7 6 cell what the amps I need 1100 amp for my extra
 fluffy11 135 points
figured it out I needed an 16-8 prop
chewy  154 points - 9/11/2011

From the looks of it, I think the prop adapter shafts are to short. I think you shoulda made them longer in order for us to use them as replacement motors in the FMS planes
rsuarezn  174 points - 9/10/2011

Dyno tests please !! , ( or at least some prop sugestions ).
 T.rex.450 175 points
I would try 15"x6-16"x6 on 5cell and 13"x6-14"x6 on 7cell for a starter.

Well Hobbyking you done a mistake by discontinuing the TG 4260 500 motor and replace it with this one. When I saw that TG 4260 500 is no longer available I found myself very, but I really mean very dissapointed.I mean who decides to discontinue a product which sale rate climbs more than expected.I mean just few days ago you got arround 100 of them in stock and after one day* only one day and all of them got sold. I have 3 of them and neither one of them done any kind of problem,I even crashed one of them three times and still flying it even with a hit bearings(they are noisy, but still flying)and other two had a crash each and still flying. By the way the spec. are wrong.TG 4260 500 is even better,I'm pulling under 6S 1.7kW with APC 15x10 and getting on a Hyperion Extra 260 40e arround 160km/h on level flight full throttle so what's bad on this motor to be discontinued. Let's see*it has a low weight for a up to 7s motor, for 1.4-1.6m wing span airplane on 6S is everyones choice just like for scale flight so even better for 3D(I'd say best),it's not overheating at all, easy to match with every speed cotroller,it's construction is made so simple but yet perfect, the price is for everyones pocket,I may also say that I am very proud to own this few ones but I am not proud for Hobby king to have discontinued this product. This was not a product made to accomodate reach people market but to accomodate us middle class and we are not interested in trendy, fashion products but used(meaning checked) and tested and passed the test product which gave us confidence and let me say again*IT SELLS GREAT,at least it was till you discontinued it. Just tell me,tell us WHY?Why you discontinued it?We want to know.

High quality finish and hardware. Runs smoothly with or without prop. Time will tell if this is a worthy successor to the SK4260. Initial static results with a Turnigy Light Wood 14" X 8" on 6S are: 9130 RPM 1291 W 57 A 22.7 V

What I do not like about this new engine from the old SK, do not comes with the aluminum cone. You may not use the old SK cone because it is not the same metric. And also, the new SK3 coming with different metrics in the 2-axis placement of the propellers

Quiet and smooth running. On 6 cells a 12x8 produces arounf 900watts and a 13x8 gives arounf 1300watts. Only 8 flights so far but impressive so far.

This is my second review of this motor, see above. Things were going well until about flight 15 when half the magnets let loose. Very dissappointing as this motor was never abused.
