Thinking of putting this motor in the zlin 50 1200mm, using a 3300mah 3s lipo and a turnigy 55bsc. Is this a good match
 Gary 2988 points
Yes,will be good,a 10x5 will be the most efficient,it will give you around 370w and draw around 38amps which should give about 9mins of mixed flying, for max power you can go up to an 11x5.5 which will give nearer 530w,current draw of 52amps and mixed flying of 6.5mins.
 Roy 1 points
thanks gary, had planned on using 10x5 so good to know that im on the right track

I taked Zlin 1200mm balsa with NTM3542-1250 almost same motor and planing use it with 12*6 2 blades and mabye 2x3000mah 40c bat for 3d and hovering.. cos this is the Sport plane not soft and hi need more power and trust, I think..???

Hello, please suggest ESC for this engine
 Michael 29 points
I measured 56A with 3S LiPo and 11x7 Prop. My Easy -Glider gos vertical with this motor.

A Turnigy Plush 60 is ideal

I am a bit confused which motor is the 'best quality' out of the NTM series, Turnigy XP or Turnigy SK3 Aerodrive. Whats the difference, other than the SK3 is the most expensive ?

No, this motor is best suited to 3-4S. Its limit is 4S. What model are you looking at running this on as you can get plenty of power with this motor on a 4S setup and 60A esc.
 rc speed 277 points
YES you can but it is not garanted. If you gonna try on 5S you need prop near 8*6 and bigger esc. Try but if the motor get fast hot stop it!!!!!!!!
 Michael 29 points
I tried 4S with a 11x7 Propeller. The motor took 1100 W and became very hot in seconds. Don´*t try, you will kill him.
samoloty.ts  15 points - 4/5/2012

Wchich ESC will be the best for this engine?
 vanzino1 21 points
It depends on what you are doing with the motor. Is it for 3 or 4 cell. I used a 70amp Dlux on 2650mah nanotech 4 cell with a 8 x 8 sport prop for a pilon racer. It pulled max 58amp. If you are going to use it on 3 cell, go for a larger prop and a 60amp plush or similar would suffice.

Use this app to see the current draw on any motor with various prop sizes then to be safe choose an ESC with 50pcnt more capacity

Hello thank who help me. My question is this how do I know that motor serves to manufacture a plane myself or reference select, power, voltage? Thank you ..
 KaosKane 1429 points
This motor would suit a plane 1KG up to 1.5KG to give vertical performance (over 1 to 1 power ratio)
 sanjayrai55 13 points
You can use a model up to 1.5 Kg. Use a 3300 mah Lipo pack, and a 60 A ESC.

How do you reverse the shaft on this? Only loosening the grub screws doesn't work and I'm not so keen to use a hammer. Also, how are the magnets holding on it, is it worth to reglue them in the beginning?
 joelvaughan 2 points
it would not be possible to reverse the shaft on this motor as it does not have a grove for the retaining cir-clip. this motor is designed as an out-runner and should only be mounted via its 4 mountain holes in the rear of the motor
 spilVentinjsh 16 points
You can reverse shaft, but you need to use collar, or just get NTM Prop Drive 3548 Series Replacement Shaft.
 zeo12 7 points
after loosening the grub screws, knock it slowly with medium plier or mini hammer or with any kind of wood. I already try it before and don't forget to remove pin clip to open motor case.
 Andrius 2 points
removed clip, taken out rotor. Removed grub screws and tried to knock the shaft in but it just won't move. Used medium hammer and reasonable amount of force. I fear if I knock it any harder magnets will fall out or casing would bend or break. Something is not right. If anyone had better luck please let us know. Thanks

I use this on the glider: Turnigy D2836/8 1100KV Brushless Outrunner Motor, with a 10 x 6 prop. and 1.6Ah or 2.2Ah 3s battery.

These motors weight 130g each. I think that is much too heavy. I would recommend smaller motors like
D2208-17-1100kv or equal size.

I bought a Turnigy Trust 70A ESC for this motor. I did that because I may want to upgrade the motor later on. Will this damage my motor? I am running a 9x6 APC prop.
 Alexander 628 points
It will not damage the motor.
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 joelvaughan 2 points
it will not damage the motor and a higher amp esc is better as it will not be on the limit of its max amp out all the time meaning it will run cooler and more efficient.
 Tom 3 points
Use this simple Application to check which props work with various motors, or to see current draw on a particular prop size. Over 1000 motors in the database and yuou can enter yuour own parameters too.

Is it good for gliders
 Herishi 40 points
Yep it would be great, I have one on my Teksumo!
 Alexander 628 points
It depends on the diameter of the propeller and the number of Lipocells you want to use.
If you want to use a big prop, the motor needs to have a lower kv rating. That is because of the max. RPM of the prop tips. The more cells you use, the RPM will raise too.
What is the weight of the plane and wingspan ?
 zanek 95 points
It is, though you would have to have a pretty big glider to need this big of a motor
genrlst  19 points - 1/7/2012

This motor does not include the other screws for the X motor mount as seen in the picture? If not, where do I get these screws or what is it called?
 Alexander 628 points
Hi, for the X-Motor mount you need countersunk screws M3x4mm. The lengh depends a little on the way you built the mount. The ends of the screws should have no contact to wires or other rotating parts inside the motor.

Dose enyboddy know why large outrunner motors have atendency to vibrate ?
and is it good to maunt aprop on the side of the cap ?
and do i need to pay attention to vibrating of the motor or it dosent matter ?
ALL propeller has to be balanced, AI does not vibrate
 Marlon 3 points
No, a good motor will not vibrate. You have either one or all of these issues:
**prop not balanced.
**motor not mounted solidly to mount or fuselage.
**an object touching the motor while it is turning.
**prop adapter (collet or set screw type) is damaged or mounted off-center.

Don't fly the plane if something is vibrating, or something will vibrate loose* fractures will occur in the foam, or screws will fall off.

I just received these today and first look seems impressive. The 5mm shaft is a welcomed addition over the 4mm shaft of the SK series. I bought these to test for the New EF-1 Class in the US. We will be running the approved 8x8e APC prop. It will have to stand up to 4s battery power, and ten laps of the course at WOT. Hopefully HobbyKing will take a look at the specs for the class and bring the SK motor up to the NMPRA EF-1 requirements.

This motor is perfectly suited to the 9.5x7.5 PZ prop! It runs cool and quiet on my 54amp esc and 3s/2200mAh setup. Fantastic performance. I don't recommend using a 10" prop on 3s, though, and if you need to use a 10" or 11" prop, go with the D3542/1100kv motor instead. Great value!
