I don`t know if the one i got is broken or not, but it feels like it will only give 60-70% throttle. i Have tried all settings and different motor, but still same problem.

I have exactly the same problem as OTAVIO. I have on 3S but it cutoff anyway. I have notice that there is no option for 2S battery, it just don't beep it. There is definitely a bug in software... :(
OTAVIO  5 points - 1/19/2013

when setting 3S lipo, ESC cuts anyway at 12V, so for 4S. tried several times. Programming defects in the ESC software. Any help?

Is this esc able to power 4 digital mg servos and motor on my fpv raptor? The servos im using are Turnigy XGD-11MB Digital Mini Servo 2.2kg / 11g / 0.12 and the stock motor for for now but will upgrade motor soon and i use $pektrum ar6210 w/sat and 3s lipo. I know its probably a bit over kill amps wise but im thinking about the bec, i don't fully understand becs and don't know if i should be using a separate bec? Also what is a switchable bec? Is this one as it says sbec? Thanks

I am new to all of this will this Birdie 60A Brushless ESC w/ 3A BEC work and replace the 60 amp bec brushless esc part number EFLA1060 Thanks for the help
 TaterTotDW 198 points
Yes it will. Just make sure you buy the appropriate size bullet connectors for it.

Can this be used on an rc car
 jkmrs 329 points
Sure, if you don't need "reverse"... This is made for planes/heli, where you don't need to go backward, so it only handles from stop to full speed in one direction : clockwise or anticlockwise, depends on the way you program the ESC or solder it to your motor.

i tested the birdie with my standard combo the max reading on HK wattmeter with just charged 6cell 3000mah 30c bat was 42A at 100pcnt WOT flying 5 mins later with same batt on same charge on same combo i got only 2 mins flying my HK P-51 1.2m the motor went screech and stopped i retained controll and landed ok now beeps r faint and motor doesnt work until i put orig esc then no prob... waiting cs response

Does anyone know how to calibrate it? I used 4 of them for my quadcopter but motors do not spin at the same speed. I have tried auto throttle range settings already.

Hey. You have to do it step by step: First turn off both (plane and radio). Then turn on your radio and put throttle in the highest stick-position. Now connect battery with esc and wait for a second. (Beep-tone should be emitted). Now quickliy put the throttle to the lowest postion and some other beep's will be emitted (counting the number off cells normally). HF and sorry for my english *)
 KaosKane 1429 points
mine burnt out with 40A on 6cell after 2 nins flying.. combo tested at 40A max while held in hand..please see the other Amp rated birdies for more
 anguyen 3 points
I bought 4, 2 of them were burnt at 30% throttle. The motor is NTM 42-38, 13x8 prop. I switched to Turnigy Plush 60A and none of them was burnt yet.

i can't get the programming sequence to fire up. I follow steps 1, 2 and 3 but no music. Any suggestions?
 __BIMS 13 points
Make sure your throttle is not reversed. Does it work by default?
 colinwill78 12 points
Thanks for the good tip. I'm using a tgy9x and the throttle is working as normal. If i misunderstood you're help, please give detail.
i still need a solution.
The ESC doesn't beep. It smoked up when it was first installed and then worked for a short while. I figured the smoke was just an effect of the first time it heated up.
It will spin a motor rapidly, but i think i need to change the setting to rapid rpm, or for outrunner to make it stop stuttering, however there is no beeps!! so i can't change settings.
THIS ESC HEATS UP. It heats up the second that it is "armed" before the motor even turns over. And i mean too hot to touch. What do you make of that? is it normal, or do i risk sending it back for warrantee.
 __BIMS 13 points
I think u got a faulty ESC it should not build that much heat if the motor is not spinning with load. mine does not even get warm after a 20min flight in my glider.
 KaosKane 1429 points
the magic smoke came out so your ESC is Dead
 luis 14 points
if you want me to say the truth is that many of these are defective ESC I buy one of these i I was the same as you i then buy another drive was defective HobbyKing i also want a good tip for buying bariadores Turnigy such high amps since these are not much reliable.

Would this be a good esc to use on a 48" (zagi)flying wing. 3500kv motor with a 4.5 x 4.5E prop.
 Bernardo 7 points
Definitely yes, I use it on a 50in 7lb aircraft with a 700W motor.
 EDWARD 71 points
That depends on how many cells you are going to use. 3500kv with 4.5x4.5 might draw over 30A on 3s, the amp will jump to ~50A at 4s. So it should be good for 3cell setup, be careful when testing with 4s. I would buy a ~$24 Turnigy wattmeter before high amp test, a good lowcost long term investment for electriflying. Happy flying!

Motor 'stutters' very badly on start-up then runs smoothly after about half throttle. Have tried all timing and P.W.M. settings but no luck. Have tried it on several motors but still get the same problem. Have not used this ESC as something will go bang! Anyone got a solution or have I got a duff one?
 Anton 6 points
try reversing some of the motor leeds see if that helps. i had the same problem and i reversed one of the motor leeds and no more shuttering
 agoraphobicflyer 41 points
Thanks Anton. Tried your suggestion - no luck still stuttering. I think I have a duff ESC. Thanks for helping.
 EDWARD 71 points
When I used this ESC in the beginning, starting up was fine but sometimes it may reverse the motor rotation for no apparent reason. Later flying in my parkzone P47 using 3s at ~50 amps seems fine though. Good to hear some other complaints and be more cautious running this ESC.
 Bernardo 7 points
Try using another ESC, if it still stutters its a motor problem.
 agoraphobicflyer 41 points
Hi Bernardo I've tried that, motor is O.K., it's the Birdie! I just use it for bench tests now. Thanks anyway, Steve
 Nick 2 points
have had the same problem ever find a fix?
 agoraphobicflyer 41 points
Hi Nick No,it's useless! I now get Hobbywing esc's off e-bay. Steve

Flew my Skywalker with this on Saturday and the ESC Caught on fire. I almost lost my plane with very expensive avionics in it. My fault for trying to be thrifty. But still his ESC looked to be of better quality then it was. Thats what I get. Going back to my 60Amp ESC to power the system.
manab4532  11 points - 8/11/2011

A 60A ESC for $15, that is definitely attractive! Would like some input on the quality of these before I buy one.
 EDWARD 71 points
I flew a parkzone p-47 with retract (3s, 30C 2450mah, APC 10x7 prop). All up weight ~1300g. Amp draw is ~50A at full throttle. Been flying perfectly. Coming down cool with my style flying. Price went up a bit from $15 though. Definitely a good buy.

I recently received mine and was also scared about the quality. Definitely worth it! it is an excelent ESC for the price.
 manab4532 11 points
I have already bought this one and have tested it at upto 55A. It runs perfectly. Definitely a good buy.

Direction: Clockwise/Counter Clockwise
You mean I can change the direction of motor rotation?
 flyzmilez 39 points
Yes you alter this esc direction through the programming mode.
 sking0369 57 points
Normaly I just change two of the three wires going to the motor.
jbc1234567  500 points - 8/5/2011

Can't see but if this has 12AWG wire on the battery side then that's a good sign
 Riva8406 69 points
As the motor wires are 14 AWG and the battery wires are bigger, you have your answer !
 jbc1234567 500 points
That's quite good considering you don't normally get 12AWG on a cheapie 60A speedy

this product was easy to program and worked well out of the box no flight test yet but soon! make sure to program as default settings are most likely not appropriate for most applications.

Great esc. Worked without programming it. Good large heat sink and also the heat shrink is not covering it to allow even better cooling. Used 29amps on 3200kv motor running a 4.5x4.5 prop on a windrider elebee.

Put about 20 or so 10 minute flights on it and was pulling between 40 and 50 amps and it never has even become warm. Easy to program, but came with no instructions but the manual is on HK . The issue I've had is that when I program it to recognize a lipo, it doesn't work. So I put on a voltage alarm and set it to "nimh auto" which is dangerous but not without an apartment. The other is it is big and heavy. Other than that it works perfect.
