So, you want a fast parkflyer!? Forget boring scale details and shelf queen good looks this P-51 is built for speed and all out fun! Dog fight with friends on 3S or use a 4S pack for heart pounding high speed passes, either way the Fun fighters have you covered. The combination of the light weight EPO airframe, a high power brushless motor and a simple aileron and elevator setup place these models amongst the most exhilarating park flyers to hit the market this year. Dont be left out of the fun!
This model comes plug and fly and only requires a few minutes of assembly time and flies like its on rails thanks to the one piece molding technique used in the construction. All you will require to have the P-51 in the air is a 3~4S 850mAh 20C Lipoly battery and your own transmitter and receiver (Tx/Rx)
Replace the glued horns before first take off. Especially on the elevator. Twice mine came off during flight.
The plane is almost unbreakable, but spare parts as cowl should be available here at HK. Exellent planes and tons of fun.
I need a new canopy. The pilot and the clear bubble canopy where kindly removed for me by a low hanging branch. The plane still flys well, and seems surprisingly tough. It looks quite ugly with a headless pilot in the cockpit though.
Is it possible to get replacement parts for these?
Got the plane, loved the looks and glued it with HobbyKing epoxy according to instructions. Made sure the balance was good (just a little front heavy on the balancing points) and that everything looked straight.
Maiden flight: Didn't give full throttle, plane spiraled hard left upon launch and crashed less than a second after hand launch on a somewhat frozen field. Tail broke off and prop broke...
Second flight: After making sure everything was as straight / symetrical as on delivery, per eyesight fully straight and looking good I launched for the second time after repairs. This time I used full throttle. After about 30 seconds of WILD MAYHEM, I sort of managed to straighten the plane out holding right stick up to the right off center (I fly mode 2). After flying haphazerdly at very low throttle (due to the wild bucking / chaos when using more throttle) for about 4 minutes making only right turns in a wide circle. I noticed the plane making a sort of zig zag snake like movement while going "straight" ahead over my head. I took a smooth left turn to put her down against the (soft) wind - and the plane just suddenly went immediately into a sharp downwards left dive instead, and when I tried to save it and it came up again, it stalled and fell to the ground from about 3-4 meters high. The body of the plane actually broke almost in half during that no throttle stall crash, the nose of the plane nearly broke off, one wing almost broke all way off, and the whole fuselage is a mess and is now crooked.
I don't proclaim to be a good RC pilot, but I also know that my beginners plane (sky eagle) has held out very well, and once due to battery outage over a gravel football field crashed much much harder on a harder surface, but only the prop got damaged. Is it reasonable that such a product at this price range
A) Cant even fly due to some unknown build problem / error in construction from package... Tail was glued with Hobbyking epoxy and according to instructions, and was straight as per visible measurements made with eyesight.
B) Cant even withstand a fall of 1 meter no throttle before braking of parts of the tail etc etc. There isn't even any landing gear so you MUST ditch the plane down into the ground to land (unless you are a hand catching ace) - this WILL BRAKE YOUR PLANE, unless you are flying over tall green soft grass. Why isn't the body of the plane just a tad more durable? At these speeds and price, one would expect at least the plane to be able to land without extremely high risk of breaking... My friend bought a Rarebear which seems to be very stable in the air compared to my P51, but each time he has landed as intended, his plane has broken (tail broken off twice, and prop broken once)...
However, that said I am not a griever, this plane was beautiful, and the four minutes 75$ got me was wild fun even at modest throttle on 3S, its an old dream of mine to pilot a P51... Sadly 4 minutes cost me like 80$ and a month of waiting and anticipation.
Oskar I have a few models that look great but for some reason (Beyond my Experties) do not fly. You sound like you had a wild ride. So I repair and hang till I am feeling brave. I have a Zero that I have self ed 4 time. I pull it out and give it a try now and then. So I can give you only this HANG in there!!!!
Hi Oscar. I have this plane and I fly it a lot with 4s 1000mAh nanotech. When I launch this plane I give it an under hand toss 1 click above 1/2 throttle. I also add right aileron as it will torque roll in the first 15-20ft. After that you can ease off of the right aileron. I only fly this plane at full throttle, however this is not for a beginner. If you like, I could give you my control settings as that is 90% of the battle. Oh, one more thing. You MUST epoxy the wing spars in the fuse. Totally submerse them in epoxy. Take care. Martin
I hand launch all my fun fighters at half throttle. My first the Skyraider launching anything above half throttle will make the plane pitch hard right...torque and low airspeed i guess. I have 4 of these fun fighters and bought two more for others and we all love em.....Can make your knees knock at times but great planes
koichi we will need a bit more INFO. When did it start? OUR OF THE BOX or AFTER FIRST FLIGHT or AFTER CRASH? I could be a bent shaft or a out of balance prop. Does it turn smooths, well as smooth as a brushless motor can?
Hi Kellyann. The noise is from the first flight. The same noise is over all the airplanes which my friend bought. I hear the same noise to see a video of HK. Will it be the property of the motor of this airplane? Will it have bad bearing that a noise comes out? Will not you be recovered if you do not change bearing or a motor to get rid of a noise?
koichi it sounds like it just prop NOISE. If it is every where else do not worry about it. Props make noise. As they cut the air it is fine. Have fun flying
Hi Kellyann. Is the cause of the noise a propeller? Is it true? A noise comes out even if I turn a propeller by hand. Therefore I think that I am different. I think the cause of the noise to be bearing.
koichi are you having a lend of me. You said every plane makes the NOISE?? When you turn the prop of every plane it does not make a NOISE. So then it is a bearing. Is it stiff?? I not does it get very hot due ing flight. If so get a new motor. I hope this helps
You must immerse the wing carbon rods in the fuse with epoxy. If you do not your wing will fold with 4s as we have had a few at our field. This is the fix for it. I fly 4s, 1000mAh nanotech battery. It truely is a blast until my ESC melted solder inthe fuse. No damage to the plane, new plush 30a ESC. Martin
You need to ballance the prop, mine was way out of ballance. REgarding the ESC: I just removed the sticker and cut away the heatschrink, that way you get better cooling. Also added a BEC to keep the ESC from overheating.
how does the battery fit in the mustang? do you have to cut foam away? Seems there is very limited amount of space compared to the others from the pics.
You may need to cut just a tad bit to fit the 4s battery, unless you are ok with the main fuselage's lower part bucking as if it had eaten a too great of a meal. (there are like straps runing vertically on the sides of the inside of the fuselage that make for extremely easy shaping and fixing of a good fit)
Came in own box. Minor dents due to other items placed inside box. Simple build. Re-glued nose-cone on, as it was loose, and takes high load of the full-length fuse top, which is flexed into place. Tail fitted square[good molding]. Alloy motor mount is epoxied in very well. Have run 3s 850 nano* 4s 1000 nano and 1300 3s nano[for duration] All fit in perfectly, having the same width. More than enough length for 1300, with no carving required. Minor CoG changes gives no effected change to flight -all lipo's are placed fully forward at first vertical block. 850 3s:3min run* 1300 3s:3min * 1000 4s:3min max. at F/thro. 33% left in lipo. Temps are high. Monitor yours. Hot day 30C: motor:71C-bearing: 77C* ESC:48C* cap:58C. I have removed spinner* opened front scoop, But only got to test on a cooler day. Mtr bearing 48C* ESC 40C* Cap. 65C. Yes, capacitor was hotter. I gave it no glide or thro-back rests. Have run 1000 4s, 4 times only, while checking duration and temps. No speeds recorded. It is 100% FUN...!!!
Also, I carved floor out 5mm to lower lipo, and placed ESC over it for better cooling airflow. D/Rates AIL:60%/70%exp* ELV:60%/70%exp. Keep your eye on it, its V/quick
I've just seen over at rcgroups that sky-angel are bringing out the A1 sky Raider and a Sea Fury,so i want to know if HobbyKing will get these two new ones in as well??
Yeah course it would as you get all the parts needed, all you would need to do is make a v shape cut top and bottom of the rudder and then fix the control rod and you should be good to go.
I've seen a couple of YouTube video's on these funfighters and they really do go some for there size and price, but the ESC seems to be a bit hit and miss even if you fly them on 3s they can still over heat, so i don't know if i would want to put a 4s in there unless i upgraded on the ESC but at this price who cares right.
* Anthony Hand thanks for that mate as that does reasure me going off topic here, where is the mini ****er JU-87 Stuka?? you know i'm not going to be happy until i have that baby on order please give me a rough date when it will be in stock, whats the hold up ths time?
i flew mine 4 the first time today had 7 flights and checked the temp of the esc and was only lukewarm and those flights were full tit all the time and running the 4s nanotec awsum plane and scares the **** outof ya on the first flight
Yes, I've flown the P-40 and the Rare Bear and both glide extremely well. I find its hard to bleed off most of the speed as these planes are so darn fast. Its pretty easy to do picture perfect landings with these planes as the speed lends a great deal of stability.
U know i thought that the overweighting was for protection and dismissed ur type of idea.. now because the original comment was secretly deleted i may be starting to agree with the idea
The age old shipping catagory debate lol , I think even I realise items being just a tad over the postage price brackets is fairly common , you could look at it as glass half full/empty I suppose ?
Empty that it ***ps you up , Full in that you can buy another 400 grams of HK goodness for no extra shipping !
"Note: For a truly Ballistic upgrade try the Turnigy nano-tech 850mAh 4S 45~90C Lipo Pack. See the related items below."
You guys forgot to add it to the "related items"
Okay this plane ROCKS! It screams with the recommended Nano tech 4s pack. This by far was one of the favorites at my field....outperformed just about everything else there. It came well packed....just a few minor dents in the foam...you wouldn't notice if you didn't know to look for them. Went together quick...no complaints.

It goes incredible fast, I think than faster than the RearBear, but after one minute flying with the 4s lipo, the wing break apart in the air, the result, the lipo and the plane completely destroyed.
I have the RearBear of the same kind of planes, and after tha more than 30 lipo, goes like the first day.
So in my opinion this little plane the P51 IS NOT PROPERLY DESIGN TO HANDLE 4S LIPO
