Doesn't inform you of any distance, if that's what you were asking. This will beep only when the battery reaches the voltage you set. And yes, as sharkey9 has stated, it's very loud. :-)
thanks guys... ill be using it on off road cars...some the ESC i used didnt have low voltage cut off so it killed my lipos... i hope this device should do the trick..
Different batteries will have different voltage settings. Older batteries will probably need a lower number. The main thing is that after your flight, the battery should not have less than 20% capacity! This, more than anything, ensures that your batteries will have a long lifespan.
Very cheap but good product. Buzzer is easily heard:). I run my lipos on max 3.2V range which is the maximum range you can push your lipo in my opinion. When you hear the buzz its time to change accu.
It depends on the plane. Some need a higher setting, others can have a low setting. You don't want your motor to cut out on a low setting and have to do a dead stick landing.
better put above 3.5v for safe reason. some battery have sagging issue. if too low, ur esc cut off and u will crash easily.

I fly a quad using 3S lipos. The best setting I've found is 3.5V. When I hear the beep, I land. I check the battery and I have 20% capacity left, which is the level you should never go below if you want your lipos to last. The setting of 3.5V accounts for voltage sag when flying. Setting it higher means I get the beep before it reaches 20% capacity.
ya, all battery will have sagging when flying. if better quality & new battery then sagging is more minor than old battery.
mine set at 3.7v for my 450 heli. it will beep normally after 3 minutes. i fly another 30 sec ~ 1minutes, the volatge will approx 3.75 when i was landing... recommended for all RC Flyer..!!

Is it possible to hook up 2x 4S lipo to this at the same time? Like Lipo#1 pins 1-5 and Lipo #2 pins 1, 6-9?
It should work in theory, you would have to split the ground. I don't see that being an issue since you can hookup Lipos in parallel and series.
This could work with a split cable for the balancer plug. They got a bridge on the last plus of the first pack, to the first minus of the second pack. This way, all cell's are seriell, an the end for the checker has one minus an eight plus.
Do you mean that you have 2x4s lipos connected in parallel? If that is the case, you only need to plug the cell checker into one battery and it will work. I have used it like that for 2x3s.
If you only plug in one battery or set up a lead to join both balance leads before this checker it disables the most important function of the cell checker. That is to monitor each cell individually incase one cell drops below your set voltage (above 3v) due to unbalanced batteries or faulty batteries. When the alarm sounds you can land and balance charge your battery preventing further damage to the low cell. The only way to monitor two 4S packs properly would be to use two cell checkers and at that price it is worth while.
This ist not all correct. The balanc plug ist a seriall connection. The fist is minus, second is plus of first cell and connected to the minus of the second cell. Third is the plus of the second cell and gos to the next cell. The monitoring works by substracting the voltage of the cell's bevor. So you can take a balanc split. This split connect the plus of the last cell from the fist pack to the minus of the first cell from the second pack. For the cell ckecker this looks like a 8S pack.
My mistake. I hadn't thought of it that way. You are right Ruedi. Using two cell checkers would be more accurate in monitoring as there are less cells monitored in the series connection.

I just measured them again, several different ones, and the weight is only 13G INCLUDING the plastic case. HK states 23G weight because of the extra packing weight to ship them to us. It is in error to tell us they weigh 23G without the plastic case on them.
Yes this is way to cheap. I recomend this because if your accu pack dies youvwill regret that you didnt order one of these. You can adjust the voltage it will beep on.
First plug on to Balancer Plug of a Lipo. The black cable of the Lipo must be on the minus as sign on the back of the Cell-Checker. On the Top of the Cell-Checker you will find the button to set the alarm voltage. Press once will show the actual setting. Press again less then one second after will increase the alarm voltage. The voltage is shown for one cell.
you can set the point alarm , with press the booton , and set it alarm from 2.7 volts /cell - 3.8volt /cell or disable alarm with press the button on top , until appears "OFF" , it very easy to use and prevent lipos from damages when over discharge
I think you have that wrong saying the positive is on the end. It is the negative post on end. Just thought you would like to know for future. You always start with the negative black wire.

Can this device be used while discharging the battery, to monitor individual cells? Does the alarm sound when the voltage is below the setpoint, but then reset itself if the load is removed and the voltage rises?
This device basically monitor the voltage of individual cell of the battery continuaously, it will sound the alarm if voltage falls below the set point amd reset when the voltage rises above the setpoint. So yes to your question.
How can I use this to alarm me when my 12v deep cycle battery falls below 11.5V? I think I will need some 3s balance plugs and wire them in series and set the alarm to 3.83v per cell. Would be nice to monitor 1s alarm set at 10.5 - 11.5 v
I'm not sure but I think that would work. I'm not sure that you could stop the display from cycling through it's normal routine though, you'd have to look and wait for it to get to what it thinks is cell three and/or "ALL'. You (might) even be able to set it to alarm at 11.4 volts by setting it to the 3.8 per cell. That's all theoretical because I haven't got mine yet but being as cheap as they are it's definately worth getting one and trying it.
I think your right way is to put 3 equal resistors in series, to build a "4 cells like" Lipo, and then monitor that each "cell" goes under a threshold of 2,9V x 4 = 11,6 Volts (or 2,8 - 11,2V) ... should do the job OK !!

yes it could be the HK gathers her supplies in its global warehouses until enough items on the list and so quite expensive transportation is worthwhile - that keeps the costs down for the end product. I love that story. It's very true. So yeah, it kinda puts me off that this particular item is always out of stock. But e-bay has similar items. And you can get it off ebay cheap as well.

A Most Excelent product. For $4.00 u can extend the life of ur lipos enormously. I have 4 ZIPPY Compact 1600mAh 4S 35C Lipo Pack and after 20 cycles or so each, none of them have ever fallen below 3.7v per cell i set this for 3.8v and land immediatly upon hearing the peizo beepers u can even hear it over the top of my 64mm stingers EDF .. and on my epp 3d plane u can hear it 100m away.. If ur annoyed by ditching a lipo because one cell drops volts faster than the others. Or u buy quality Lipos then this will be the best $4.00 u will ever spend
If u do not fly with it the settings ar immeterial...Ps this unit can be set to alarm anywhere between 2.7 to 3.8 i use 3.8 and land b4 the lipos r technicly empty at 3.7v per cell
I bought 3 of these, to monitor my Zippy LiFePo4 battery voltages (3s3p, 3x1800mAh) in my Slash 4x4 and let me know when I'm drawing too much power.
Luckily 3, because I already lost one in a big crash by not securing it properly. Only noticed it missing after some while. But it wasn't bad, because I still had a few to spare and could put another one in order right away.
Tip: Use velcro tape to secure it to your car, and put some electrical tape on the openings to keep the moisture out.

Why do you want to buy these? They come pre-installed on all batteries with more than one cell on this website. I don't know where to find the connectors.
Unfortunately, my battery has another connection type...

I plan to use these, with some jxt parallel boards to make an electric bike battery pack. I'll turn them off when not in use, but I've heard of people having trouble with the low voltage alarms actually unbalancing a pack due to unequal draw on different cells. Should be easy to check with some jumpers, I went ahead and ordered a few.
The motor controller is only 25A and I'll be running 10AH of 20C lipo, so I certainly hope the voltage doesn't sag that much. I already ran this pack on a different bike once and the voltage didn't sag much at all actually, maybe 0.25V/cell average.
I am curious why you are asking this. The current will be minimal. A few mA at most! I did not open the box but normal electronic desighn will pull the the primary current form one cell. This simplifies design and makes the defice cheaper. I gues this will be from the firste cell because you must be able to measure small batteries. :-) So during a run this will have no impact but neaver leave your batteries attached to the device when you store them!
Alarms should face down towards ground so that they are easier to hear. I have it mounted on the outside & if alarms face down you can't read the display as it is wrong way uphttp://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/images/em _rolleyes.gif
It is loud anough if the car is not miles away. In most cases you will have anough time to shut down the car with an empty battery. If you have any doubt you can also set the Low Voltage Alarm 0.1V higher which will give you some more time to hear the alarm. :-)
There's no need for a manual. It only has one button which scrolls through the different alarm levels. I suggest you set it to something like 3.3v if you use it on a multi-rotor and if you use 3-4S, that'll give you roughly one minute to land before the ESCs cut the power. The pins should be labeled, so you can't hook it up wrong.
as soon you connected to a balance plug and it is on you will hear a lowd beep ,means that it works..after that locate on top between the two round alarms a tiny button .every time you press it will go like 3.7 or 3.6 or 3.5..etc.i always set it to 3.6..just in case other plane is landing first than me and i have to go around
to extend the life of ur lipo set for 3.8v land before the lipo gets to 3.75 volts as this is when a lipo is tecnichaly empty

I have not purchased this from HobbyKing but rather from another site. Nonetheless, this is by far the best low-batt alarm out there. Four factors make it so great:
1) being generic to any number of cells (2,3,4...8)
2) the buzzer is LOUD :) you can actually hear it when the plane is in the air from almost any distance
3) the alarm threshold is programmable and extremely simple to change
4) it monitors each of the cells individually rather than total battery voltage

Top " LiPo Telemetrie für Arme ". Ich nutze dieses Teil um die max. Flugzeit meiner LiPo's zu ermitteln. Einfach als Signalschwelle 3.4V programmieren und dann fliegen. Sobald eine Zelle diesen Wert erreicht hat faengt das Teil an zu piepsen. Und schon weiss man dass man landen sollte. Ganz einfach und effizient.

Petit gadget très utile et pas cher, il mesure la tension de chaque élément de la lipo et sonne trés fort lorsque un des éléments descends en dessous de la valeur de sécurité programmable entre 2.8v et 3.8v. A laisser sur le modèle branché sur la prise d'équilibrage de la lipo pendant le vol et sonne lorsqu'il est temps de se poser. Il évite ainsi que les éléments individuellement de descendent en dessous de leur seuil de sécurité durant le vol. Un bon complément au BEC des contrôleurs qui lui ne mesure que la tension totale mais pas la tension individuelle. Pour prix, ne pas se priver, il peut sauver des lipos dont un élément est un peu plus faible. Personnellement, je règle le seuil à 3.4V par sécurité. Ne fonctionne bien sur qu'avec les lipos de 2s à 8s.
