Whether this engine is good for 3D flying D2830-11 1000kv Brushless Motor 210W and which prop is good for 3D? I think this motor is okay for 3D flying what you think?

This is the new model (version 2)* this is not heavy tail because the rudder and elevator servos are placed under the canopy... then other little bits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN75_BzTTYk last sunday was the maiden flight of my sbach , it is not modified , i used a turnigy park 480 , e-flite 40amp esc ,parkzone 3s 2200 mah , futaba s3114 servos and 2 HD servos that i bought here but i dont remember the name of them , this little aiplane looks beaultifull and flyes good , everithing is stock . exept from the hinges , i used my own great planes hinges , it may be a little heavy but it can fly 3D very good , ill make a new video the next week ,wait for it , so i like this sbach , chek out the video and tell me what you tink ... the sbach doesnot have any coupling yet it was just like the 7th flight
 aldesa165 19 points
Hi, what is the weight ?
 SALVADOR 16 points
i really dont know , but the plane is not lightened at all , as soon as a have the exact weight i will tell you
 aldesa165 19 points
What do you think about the Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 2836-1500 ??? Can I install this motor on Sbach ?
 SALVADOR 16 points
try to get the park 480 , you have to get a motor that uses 3s lipo bateries ,and it have to be lightweight , they recomend a park 450 but it is not enought , so put the park 480 on it and its a perfect combination,, so , try to get it ,and try to use a apc 12x6 prop , a 11x6 may work good , but you need the get the most thrust you can , ig you use a 9" prop tha plane would not be able to even do a single hover
 aldesa165 19 points
The Aerodrive SK3 weight is 80 gr, and it can use 2 or 3 cells... with 9x4.7 it would be OK... ?
 SALVADOR 16 points
you need a motor that can turn a 12x6 prop easy , if you use any -11" prop yo uwill not have power-weight ratio you must use a 3s and park 480 1000kv motor

Hi everybody. Mine came on last friday, so here are weights ! Rudder: 13 gr Elevator: 23 gr Wings: 75 gr X 2 = 150 gr Fuselage: 170 gr Motor Mount: 16 gr Cowl: 50 gr Landing: 30 gr Screws, tail wheel, ecc. 85 gr TOTAL: /- 537 gr
 aldesa165 19 points
 SALVADOR 16 points
i recommend you to open some air intake holes in the cowl , it wil maje it a little lighter and they improve the ventilation from the esc and battery
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 aldesa165 19 points
I think to open it at the end of the fuselage, near the tail gear, ok ?
 SALVADOR 16 points
no, you must open air inlets to the cowl , because cool air have to enter to the fuse ,in the tail you have to do the hot air outlets, ill send you some pics of how i assembled mine , ill send you a facebook link
 SALVADOR 16 points
you have to open air inlets in the cowl , to allow the cool air enter to the fuse , and pass over the battery and esc , then all the air that enters to the fuse have to exit , so thats when you have to do an air outlet hole , i made it one in the middle of the fuse and in the las section of the tail, check out my build thread about my sbach , www.link try to open air inlets n outlets as i did , and open one hole in the last section of the tail
 SALVADOR 16 points
i cant send you the link from here , ill put the link on my sbach video ,,, open the video and the link will be in the description

hey people , what do you think about this sbach ? i have just ordered it , i costed me 135 dls with shipment please can you tell me things about the flying and the 3D flying , i have seen coments that it is tail heavy , does anyones know what would be a good CG position for this little ariplane? im gonna use this electronics: turnigy park 480 1020 kv apc e 12x6 e-flite 40amp esc 2200 mah batery (ill order a 1300 mah later futaba servos with 20oz of torque (i dont remember the number ) i fly 3D 7 minutes perfecto on my e-flite extra 260 480 so i plan to asemble this airplane with his electronics do you think that i will flye good ? i want a good power-weight ratio and to be able to perform good the 3D maneuvers
 DARREN 6 points
I bought one of these put a 4s 2200 a lil twitchy but awsome to fly on rails
 SALVADOR 16 points
i used my park 480 e-flite 40 amp esc and 3s 2200 and the plane is even nose heavy, not much but i cann feel it when flying , i didnt had any problems for the flight , chekout my video

What is bare frame weight? dry assembled w/no electronics?
 flymypretty 86 points
650g according to the info above. Just ordered, will weigh it and post if i remember
 psguardian 33 points
"Flying Weight: 600g~650g", being a weight range, is expected RTF weight with electronics installed. I'm looking for weight of the airframe alone, no electronics no glue/epoxy. Thanks.
 flymypretty 86 points
Not going to be possible to get you the weight without glue or epoxy, as this plane is mostly built when you buy it. I will try to post the weight without electronics though...
 psguardian 33 points
That would be perfect flymypretty! I meant without adding any adhesives at home when I said 'no glue/epoxy', so just fitting the kit together without electronics I guess should have been what I said lol. I'm trying to get everything lined up electronic & lipo wise without making her a pig so bare kit weight is a biggy. TNX!
 aldesa165 19 points
Rudder=13 gr, Elevator=23 gr, Wings=75 gr X 2 = 150 gr, Fuselage=170 gr, Motor Mount=16 gr, Cowl=50 gr, Landing=30 gr, screws tail wheels ecc=85 gr, TOTAL=537 gr

Thanks aldesa165! So lets review here.... AUW 600-650gr, BARE AIRFRAME weighs 537gr. 650-537=113. 4x9gr servos = 36gr, 113-36=77gr. 20amp redbrick is 20gr, 77-20=57gr. 45mm spinner about 30gr, 57-30=27gr. Avg RX about 10gr, 27-10=17gr. Now I just need a 7gr 200w motor & a 10gr 3s lipo to push it.... Update the Numbers HK.
 flymypretty 86 points
lol I have mounted a 700W power system in this beast...hahah muhahahaha!
 aldesa165 19 points
Adding: - Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 2836-1500 = 88 gr - Mystery 40A Speed Controller = 30 gr - ZIPPY Compact 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo = 165 gr - 4x9 Servos = 40 gr - Prop spinner = 50 gr ... the total weight comes near to 910 gr !!!
 aldesa165 19 points
Here is mine! Wing & servo: 92gr, complete Sbach (without battery): 734gr, Sbach with battery (2200 mAh): 900g

Which suitable props to fit this plane with if im usIMG width='480px' turnigy park 480 1020kv? What do you guys used for full setup for this plane?
 Gary 2959 points
If you wish to 3D this plane then you want a large diameter, fine pitch prop, something around a 12 x 5 would be good. The Park 480 1020 motor will be excellent as it gives 220 watts of power, marry this to a HK 30amp esc or similar and a Turnigy 1300mah 3 cell 30 c pack, should be good.

 SALVADOR 16 points
use the apc 12x6!! im using that prop in this plane , im using park 480 and e-flite 40 amp esc, 3s 2200 lipo , the plane feels good and you need the most thrust you can get , 9" props would not work even for hover this plane

Can i use a Turnigy G10 in this plane with a 2200mah 3cell
 Pushrod 585 points
The G10 would be ok for sport flying have a look at the G15 950kv or what i used was the turnigy park 480 1050kv and she flies great with good unlimited verticle.
 Pushrod 585 points
Sorry turnigy park 480 1020kv
 Pushrod 585 points
I would stay away from the turniy G range it would carry to much power for this plane it would not fit the motor mount supplied
 rippen 13 points
G.day i am considering using a 35 36 1000kv 45 amp esc and 3s2200 batt how do you think this would work. thanks
 DARREN 6 points
run a 4s battery 1800 give a lil more punch
 SALVADOR 16 points
i would recomend you the turnigy G10 ,it has a little more power than the park 480 , and they works with the same battery and esc ,and the weight diference is not too much

Planning to use Park480 in this plane. What's the suggested method to mount motor to engine mount? I cant use X mount as outer holes don't line up. Otherwise it looks ok.
 Pushrod 585 points
you need to turn x mount slightly and redrill and bolt it on you may need a couple of nylon washers just to clear the cowl, i hope this helped.
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 gtstudios 7 points
Thanks. That'll sorta work, 3 1/4 of the bolts wll go into something. Alternatively I may use a spare x-mount back to back which will use the holes that are there and pack the motor out a bit. Thanks for your quick response. Still interested to hear what others have done.
 gtstudios 7 points
I'm building another one of these after the first one disintegrated in mid air. This time I'm reinforcing the motor mount and front of the fuselage, but also I'll mount the motor without using the X-mount at all* the Park 480 with some stand-offs, washers and 4 x 25mm bolts should hold it in place and be the perfect length, and fits the slots already in the motor mount.
 SALVADOR 16 points
im planing to use the same 480 , does it has good power for this plane

hi, the "Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 2836-1040kv" is good for this plane or it's long 28x40 size ? (sorry for my langage i am french)
 Pushrod 585 points
I used the park 480 (37mm long) had to put a couple of nylon washers under the motor mount so the prop would be clear of the cowl.
The Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 2836-1040kv is 40mm it think you will be OK.

What is the REAL weight of the model ?? The old version of sbach is about 1kg.

So, how people say that the fly it with recomended motor?? In order to fly this model as 3d model, 1.5 trust motor is needed at least.

I've flown the Eflite UMX SBach and that's a brilliant micro. I normally stay a way from balsa planes becuase I have no expeerience in repairing them, but this looks very nice and not too large. Can this be easily hand launched?
 psguardian 33 points
Stall speed has to be near to 17-20mph * 1kg, so unless you've got one hell of an arm its probly not a great idea.
 gtstudios 7 points
... and if you haven't room to take off, where are you going to land?
Scott  3 points - 12/3/2011

Does anyone have a recomended COG for this plane? i just recieved mine, looks very nice build and covering but no instructions.
 Scott 3 points
sorry i have now found a instruction Cd in the box. COG is 60mm from front of wing
 Dean I 5 points
I usually ballance my plane about one quarter from the leading edge at the root making sure the plane slightly dips at the front making it a little nose heavy...its better to be nose heavy than tail heavy. Also you may want to turn the plane upsidown and ballance the plane from front to back adding weight to the wing tips as needed.

yes it has the same problem, it will not balance with the recommended 1300 lipo, needs a 2200 through the bulkhead next to the motor. Wish i had read the review of the other. Disapointed Dave.

I bought mine with recommended motor turnigy park450 890kv. I am using 2200 mah batt, 11/4 prop and the total weight is closed to 1kg. I hv not flown it yet as the motor seems not enough power. Will try bigger kv motor. Is 1400kv motor too big or too heavy?
 Pushrod 585 points
* arerace: The park 450 should have plenty of power to sport fly im using the park 480 and it is perfect for 3D.
 arerace1 6 points
pushrod: thanks for your assurance. Will try to maiden it this week since I am not a 3d flyer. BTW, when I hold the plane vertically nose up, then push the throttle to the max the plane is not able to sustain it thrust

Running the 1300mah "I think" would fly the plane on the sport side.Your vertical maybe limited. An 1800mah "I hope" will give me big loops and decent vertical. 2200mah would be straight UP 3D! The description seas 2836 Brushless Outrunner with 1300 will give you 3d so.... Erwin your set up should work fine

Hi, this kind of model requires in my opinion glow engine .15 - .21 (2,5ccm - 3,5ccm). I have the same idea to power it by glow engine, probably by my ASP S21A (I think is the enough engine for unlimited verticals), because my previous model with this engine (f3a style, 1080mm wingspan, 1000g weight) crashed last week :-(

they recommend a park450 motor. this is less than a .10 glow equivalent. 450<480<.10<.15<.21 etc

my opinion ...more efficiently use the electrically system used BL mOtor idioms 15-25 glow :p

a glow engine in a plane specifically designed for electric motors, will vibrate the airframe way too much

This plane is too small.

SO SO very nice * a very cheep price. I am amazed!!!! compared to the price of others that are similar to this this price rocks. of course that does not mean that it will fly great.
I think that i will wait until reviews. I hope that their will be another shipment once these are gone

I don't work for hk, but if they don't get another shipment here is one almost exactly. Sbach-39in_EP

I dont think Hobby King would be stupid enough to stock another Sbach that cant fly. It could take several months to restock.

1 thumbs up!
This plane was flown beautifully, for 3d experience you may use brushless motor that has 1100 gr of thrust or bigger because if using 2200mah lipo, her flying weight is almost 1000 gr for having at least 1 : 1 thrust weight ratio. For the correct cg is between 75 until 80mm from leading edge, not 60mm like manual said. Im using park 450 brushless, 4 hxt 900 servos, turnigy plush 25A and zippy 2200 mah 40C lipo, mostly aerobatic flying, not 3d. Enjoy your plane

Today first flight, fantastic. My set up park480 1300kv,lipo 2200 3s esc 40amp,stabilizer zyx-s.Take off and landing piece of cake, just increase or decrease throttle no drifting.loops rolls inverted knife edge no problem even in wind,as if the plane is on rail.everybody in our club was amazed.i havent tried the sbach without stabilizer.i also have zyx on my hk 500 great performance.

This model has design faults... Buy the other version not this... for example the elevator is split in both sides (not linked) but is controlled by one pushrod and one servo...
