Rarebear Funfighter - EPO 620mm (PNP) incl. High-Spec (3s~4s) ESC (USA Warehouse)

So, you want a fast parkflyer!? All of the Funfighter range are truly ballistic, amazing fun, tough and brilliant value for money....but there is something special about the Rarebear. A firm favourite in the Hobbyking office, you will notice the lack of panel lining for a start, it's just built for speed! The Rarebear is of course a world famous Reno Racer and is a highly modified Bearcat, it is one of the fastest piston engined aircraft in the world. This Rarebear features a detailed canopy, pilot figure and the all important upgraded 4s Compatible ESC which means true 100 mph+ performance is possible with NO mod's & no extra outlay, just drop in a Turnigy 4s 850mAh~1000mAh pack and prepare to be impressed!

The combination of the light weight EPO airframe, a high power brushless motor and a simple aileron and elevator setup place these models amongst the most exhilarating park flyers to hit the market this year. Dont be left out of the fun!

This model comes plug and fly and only requires a few minutes of assembly time and flies like its on rails thanks to the one piece molding technique used in the construction. All you will require to have the Rarebear in the air is a 3~4S 850mAh 20C Lipoly battery and your own transmitter and receiver (Tx/Rx), see the attached video for some 3s & 4s flight footage and some info regarding the ESC Mod that we at Hobbyking insisted on.

How long are you guys getting on 3S? 4S? 850mah batts, or 1000? Anyone have amp draw readings for this?

Do you have any idea when the funfighter Barebear will be back in stock? I need to order from USA Warehouse Thanks Richard
 RonRC 2006 points
In stock now! Get one while they last. Just went to the Lakewood, WA warehouse and picked mine up last week and did a speed check today with a 4S battery. Pass one - 98mph, pass two - 106mph and Pass three - 99mph. These were checked with a Doppler program. My radar gun only goes up to 100mph. Happy flying!

Has anyone added or thinks the rarebear needs extra carbon fiber strips or rods to give the airframe extra strength based on the G forces it must be pulling at such high speeds or is it unnecessary? Thanks in advance
 modifiedmustang 524 points
I had the tip of one pop loose. I think the spars are fine, it's just that they need a little more glue in the tip, and some in the center as it's two spars that overlap in the center.

Absolutely love this plane, my ten year old son and I were out flying in 47 degree weather here in Houston, Tx - which it rarely gets this cold. He was flying the p-51 version and I the Rare Bear! It started to sleet/hail, but these birds handled a couple more passes and landing just fine. These planes are amazingly fast, amazingly smooth and amazingly fun!

in NE it gets -20 degrees the coldes i've flown in is 30

I lost one of the small screws from the motor mount this weekend (it appears there are 2 sizes of screw.)

Anyone know what size it is, or where i can get spare screws from?
 vinmech 29 points
You could search for a hardware kit for that particular size motor such as www.link or I'm pretty sure it is a 1.5 or 2mm screw, and cut to size.
 fapsauss 183 points
Honestly just take it to a local hardware store like true value or even home depot and size it up in the store. They wont mind at all and if you are worried, just show someone the model when you bring it in. This way you know for sure, and dont have to buy the entire kit just for 1 stinkin screw!

I will wait to buy this one, getting a little cool on the flight line.
 david 1 points
Don't wait, its a fun plane, was an impulse buy for me that I'm happy with.
 Richard 1 points
For under $90 this is one wicked fast plane. I changed the stock ESC to a mystery 40a ESC blue series and the prop for more SPEED. :)
 skyzz 1 points
My Rare Bear EPO 620mm order arrived fine without shipping damage with 2 Nano-Tech 3S 850 mAh batteries. Now I'm looking for a GOOD quality charger which would charge at least 4S. Any suggestions?

have not heard good things about Banana H also Nitro is bad as well. HK has always done a good job for me.
 Electric Power 466 points
vid on HK says the ESC is upgraded. 5 or 6 planes they are selling have this same set up. The vid shows the plane flying on 3s and 4s

bonjour, avez vous vu cet avion voller dans votre club , je voudrias l'acheter mai je voudrais savoir comment il volle, merci de vos reponse
 BENCHASON\ 41 points
They can't handle four cells. I have crashed two because the speed control fried.
 Electric Power 466 points
Benchason: After the first crash why didn't you just change the ESC since that was the problem?
 BENCHASON\ 41 points
Well I was just hoping I just got a bad one. It's a blast when it's flying but I will upgrade if I buy another one.
 Electric Power 466 points
I always go bigger ESC than I need. In the end it is cheaper than a new plane. I may buy one in the spring when it gets warmer.
 BENCHASON\ 41 points
Electric Power you will enjoy it with the upgraded speed control. Clocked it at 117mph with four cells and stock prop.
 sfactor1 947 points
im going to the brighton and quinte fields in the spring to watch electric monkey crash his rear bear
 david 1 points
would recommend upgrading the ESC for 4s, gets hot on 3s and then you will have no issues. Its a great plane for the price

why are there no reviews on this aircraft - youtube shows there are many people out there who have and have flown it. Have not received mine yet so can't give a review. Please disregard the star ratings I've set. Will come back after I've flown it.

I rated the quality 2 crowns, and there is a very strong reason for it. the ESC fried with 4s and I had to breath the electronic fumes. I replaced the motor with a d2826 2200kv since the bullet connect didn't match my other 40A esc. this plane is too small and goes too fast and has a very stable flight. I like this plane but i am sure it wont last, since everytime I land it it cartwheels. its easy to get bored with, since all it does it goes fast

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone... Ok, now down to business, yesterday after the rain I was finally able to get a maiden flight out of my RareBear, i did paint the elevator/rudder and one wing tip bright orange for my viewing pleasure/orientation....the 1st flight I used a couple of 4-5 yr old TP-3cell-1320mah-17c-20c, the bear took off good and flew well especially in constant winds of 10-15mph ( I could not wait any longer for a calm day so i threw caution to the WIND ) landed perfect as i glided in no power. Then i used the Turnigy Nano tech 4cell-850mah 45-90C, and it had more power at half throttle than either 3 cells....pretty much took right off out of my friends hand. now i did not have a speed gun or anything but, i'm pretty sure it was not doing anymore than 75mph TOPS, not sure where these other guys are getting 100-125mph from. lots of fun nonetheless, as I ran it full throttle and got about 3 mins flight time. No problems with the ESC getting really hot, motor ran fine and did not really get hot...it was about 78-degrees here at the WPMPA.com (Florida) site I fly at, just got my membership/key, "Thanks GUYS :) " All in All LOTS OF FUN flying this BEAR....going to tweak it some and see what i can get out of it...
