Shark High Performance Racer/Glider 1228mm Composite (ARF)
The Hobbyking Shark is a high performance hybrid glider/pylon racer with distinctive F3A styling, this ARF version allows you to fit your own set up, perfect for the ultra speed freaks!
The airframe is composed of a Fiberglass fuselage AND wing, which is a removable 1pc item, only the horizontal stabilizer/elevator are balsa. The finish is quite superb and durable, there is no doubt, it looks fast, which is just as well, it IS fast! A model this quick needs to be well built and no corners have been cut, aileron's are "live" hinged & all the included hardware is sturdy and good quality for reliability and performance.
The Hobbyking Shark racer offers an unbeatable combination of low price, quality, good looks, practicality, ease of assembly and durability. When fitted with an ultra high performance set up, the Shark offers amazing performance that will keep even the most hardcore speed merchants happy!
Landing on a composite wing is far from ideal. Normally gliders have mid or high wings, and pylon racers have high wings, so they can be made in one section for strength. Fiberglass wings aren't known for being crash resistant, either.
I've had this plane sitting around for months... Finally almost done but need a cg placement? Can't find manual... Has a HET 2w-18 with a 5x5 folder.. 1083watts at 78 amps. 1800mah 4s nano tech.. thanks :)
ok so mine is in the mail currently and i have noticed that a lot of people are saying the horizontal stab is a soft balsa and needs reinforcement. they also say not to fix this problem with carbon sticks going from the horizon stab to vertical stab what is wrong with fixing it this way?
I received mine last week and it seems to be made out of light triplez. I still decided to glue an additional strip of flat carbon to the end. Can see nothing wrong with that.
Ok, I see...
Oh well, I wrote triplez where I meant to write triplex...
Anyway, my fuselage turned out to be VERY twisted... so I'm still... waiting for a replacement to be shipped to me...
I also think the wing is way too flexible... And I think it should give terrible flutter at high speeds. Has anyone encountered any problems with wing flutter so far?
I have experienced no wing flutter at all, as for carbon, I used a strip of 3mm CF down the elevator on mine and mounted the control horn over that strip and have had no issues at all.
danikronos" this is not a glider its a racer , this should have digital servos ,this needs to be set right for high speed just like a EDF would have digital not a must but much better to fly . plaese use digital HK sells them here and some are very good also, check the feed back be fore you buy them.
even a 9g hxt900 has 1.6kg.cm torque and the 5g hxt500 has 0.8kg.cm torque. it would be suicidal to fly 100mph with a sub-micro servo. you want approx 2kg.cm at the minimum, preferably digital and metal gear.
i am currently using a 4.75x4.75 i have not tried other props yet but i plan on trying a 5x5 6x4.7 i will let you know what i get the best results with
Chris I know it seem strange but trust me it requires a Inrunner. The body form the cowl and there is no clearance for a Outrunner of the right size. Yes you could mount it on the noses but this would through everything out. So dig deep buy the correct motor and you will not be disappointed. I hope this help you buy.
maybe a 4S 1500....i know its smaller but if you want the speed it may work ,also go for the high discharge nano-tec that will help it along 40c Or just get a high very high KV EDF motor but THAT IS AN OPTION ALSO
I have a 2250mah 4s and a 1800mah 4s both 65c discharge packs on their way for my dad... I will see if it fits when my plane and the batteries arrive. :) Thanks guys!
I like Scotts suggestion as I do this in a couple models with great results, specially models that are very CG sensitive. Also allows U to use cheaper lower C rated bats.
They say 28mm required but the one they suggest in the combo deal (which by the way I think would be excelent for this rpm and power wise but also because it's got its own cooling system for enclosed aps like this) is 30mm. Obviously there's a little bit of room to play with but it's an inrunner so wires can run along it's outside fairly safely. That warhead motor is 35mm and I doubt that would fit but even if it did it's an outrunner so the wires and everything else would have to be kept well clear of it so you'd need even more space to do that. Another prob is it's designed for an edf with cooling air flowing over it at very high speed. I think it would fry pretty quickly enclosed in the nose of this thing if pushed.
yes i see what u mean a 6 cell would cert put the flying weight through the roof even if i could fit it... i also understand why people are requesting 900-1000 Mah 6cell batteries :} thanks
buy it and find out worse could happen is it wont fit and if it dosent than place what dose ,more wieght maybe not good ,or just go with a higher vk motor and a high discharge lipo try a 3S or 4S, 50c nano-tec mayjust do what you want ,i use them in my EDF jets ton of power ,there great.
I already have the dragon red which is very similar but a different fuselage and I don't want to be spending more money until I know what batteries it could take. I have seen other pylon racers with 2 6s in line and they go 200mph
I have the lipos already, I expect the second lipo would have to be over the wing to get the right cg, but then I would have to move the elevator servo, and I would need the dimensions of the fus space
I C OK , WELL LOOKS LIKE YOU MAY HAVE TO JUST BUY THE PLANE? I would like to get this i really like i ,there is the dago red at hobby lobby i like but they want like $229 bones ,just to much.
Just recieved this plane. Looks ok, the finis is not as good as the HK FOX (fiber glass). But it´s ok. The wing is not as stiff as i would like. The spinner size is 35mm, not 30-32mm as stated above. I am going to use D05010MG digital mg servo on aileron and HXT 900 on elevator. Motor is going to bee Turnigy 480s on 4 cell 1800mAh Nano-tec and 4,75X4,75 prop. 65A ESC. There is room for the 4 cell battery, no problem. For the price this plane is nice. You need to pay 4 or 5 times more to get some thing better.
Best regards
Simon

Just received it yesterday. This one is as an upgrade of the now out of stock Drago Red that I have bought too. The Drago Red had a very slick fuselage that allows you to use just a 1000 mA poli pack. But both models still have a big issue in their elevator. The elevator balsa is very soft and fragile mainly at its central section. As this plane is fast it will be suicidal don't reinforce it with carbon sticks up and down.

Well i bought this machine a few weeks ago to put together was easy as i am running a 3 s 2200 lipo with a 4.75 * 4.75 prop wow tne speed:-)was extreme using a 60amp esc and a 4850kv arc motor the only rhing i dident like was wings looked scratched and dull not shiney like the pic shows and really all red hard to see in the sky red top and bottom also had to mount the motor with down thrust for the fire wall has alot of up thrust once i got it right flys great easy to launch and extreme speed also i like it

Hello Hobbyking,
The Fuselage is far too heavy.
The Wing is far too wobbly and soft.
I would strongly advise not to use a propulsion system with any real power.
Lighten the Fuse and put a Spar into the Wing with at least 2 Carbon Rovings top and bottom.

I like to fly very fast planes, especially for Pylon Racing, and my question is, if this plane can exceed 380 Km per hour with a Nitro Nelson motor for this kind of race?
