Its only a metre strip of tape.why is the product weight so heavy?
Gerry01  2910 points - 2/9/2013

does anybody tried to see if it glows better if you point an UV led to it? maybe on blades that may help to make them visible.
 CreaTive 29 points
Yes, it does, heh actually it was one of the first things I tried with my UV lamp.

Thanks for your reply!
 CreaTive 29 points
Just be careful though UV is bad for your eyes, heh so don't look into the light as you're charging it, and UV has a tenancy of breaking plastics down. So Im not sure what effect using pure UV light on it would have over the life of the stip..... Not that it really matters at $4.58 for a massive rectangle you get.....

Depends on what surface you want to stick it to. I have found that this works well on the body of my 250 helicopter, but is not bright enough for blades. Most surfaces just need to be clean or even lightly sanded with 600-800 sandpaper.
Steve  1 points - 11/10/2012

how do I prepare the surface so that the sticker sticks well?
 CreaTive 29 points
Depends on who you talk to, I just simply stuck it on the aluminum arms of my Quadcopter. Seems to be fine. Although, some people like using an ammonia based window cleaner, or rubbing alcohol, then wiped dry before application.
 Mike oxbig 35 points
I found that to stick it to covering or foam you need to use a little heat. I use a covering iron on setting 1 and it sticks really good

Could anyone tell me how much this film weighs, say, for a strip 10mm x 100mm**or any other size?
 Railcrew 41 points
This is just a bit heavier than the monokote trim tape and use as the same,I just got mine and am very pleased with it.

Wow! Thanks. I was expecting an answer that it was a lot heavier.

I absolutely totaly need them but that packing weight... Did they come rolled on some tube or what? They should sell bigger or smaller version. 1.2x0.2m is too much and too less.
 Chester_PL 4 points
Mine came rolled loosely (w/out any hard tube).
 Railcrew 41 points
Mine came rolled up with a rubber band around it.
 Petr 54 points
i'm waiting this and blue each day. uv flashlight is on the way too

I can insert it into the printer? I print written on with an inkjet printer ink?
 Henrique Bartz 8 points
it will print : yes ..... but it will not last becasue the surface of this adhesive is not prepared for printing. I suggest you to use a cutter/plotter do make any lettering.
 Mark in Aus 960 points
You could try using Clear inkjet aheasive film. Print your design then apply it over the glo in the dark film.

charge it??
 newbie guide 623 points
allow light to get absorbed so it can be radiated.

best way to charge GID material is UV light. It all depends on spectrum of light. Lower wave lenght (UV, blue), more energy to GID. But higher wavelenght (red, IR) discharge GID.... So: UV, violet, blue light is best... Green is not too good, yelow don't charge... Orange, red, IR discharge GID... But it's not that simple becase most of sources have multiple wavelengh from booth sides of spectrum.

Does this adhesive sheet get all crushed and wrinkled in HobbyKings desire to stuff it into the postage box?
 handyjap 194 points
I received mine nicely rolled (not to tight even).

 Michael_NZ 4 points
Mine was fine :)
 Tim 20 points
mine was nicely rolled and then pushed into a small little box. When you order make sure you order with a large item so there is plenty of room in the box.
 CreaTive 29 points
Mine was folded in the bottom of the box with the rest of the order on top, Tiny wrinkles where the backing came off, but absolutely nothing to worry about.
gromuluss  218 points - 4/7/2012

OK a honest answer here is this really bright enough to fly with no other lights? at any distance???? I like the idea but is it bright enough for real?
 Sawdust 1605 points
I doubt it but we'll know more once a few people get their orders. They've only just got this in.
 faerietree 9 points
Going to test it. The question is if it can be seen at a distance of 2 km horizontally as well as vertically. Though I believe it depends on weather, Moon et alia.
 gromuluss 218 points
ha ha ha :P I'd be happy with 500 feet or so. :)
 Fabio Diego 84 points
Friend, it's really bright, flying in the dark if you can expose any kind of light shining bright (10 cm car headlight for example) for one minute that he will be quite bright but for 40 minutes. Tested and approved!
 Crispim.joao 35 points
Try this sheet with and UV LED pointed to it. if it is the "right" glow material it will light up madly! I don't need it now or else I would test it...
Shaun  329 points - 4/2/2012

If it gets cut can it still be used?
 magnusEl 1214 points
Yes, you can cut it in any shape or size you want.
 Fabio Diego 84 points
Friend, this is a tape that glows in the dark, does not have any kind of electronics and you can cut in the desired format. Amigo, isso é uma fita que brilha no escuro, não possui qualquer tipo de eletrônica e voce pode cortar no formato que desejar.

Any one got an idea about the real weight ? 160g shipping usually doesnt equate to the item weight which is what I would like to know. Thanks
 slyhq 119 points
160g for mine :/
 Sawdust 1605 points
It doesn't matter for other uses but for RC planes the actual weight is very important. I've backordered some anyway and I'll decide how much to use on planes depending on weight and the rest I'll use around the house beside light switches and door knobs etc.
 magnusEl 1214 points
The weight is 106 grams for the sheet. The backing paper is 1/3 of that weight, so 69 gram for the film itself.
I measured a pice, 26 x 39mm and separated the backing (0,147 grams) from the film (0,276 grams), so those numbers are for real.

Quick way to add more WOW to the night flyer. Different colours would be nice but it is a easy start. Put a sheet in my next order for sure. As for charging, I will just put it on the front seat of the truck in the sun while at the field. I sure am not going to last 5 hours of night flying the bugs would finish me off long before that.
 R/CNewbie 3808 points
Lol, 'the bugs would finish me off long before that' same problem here in Scotland- bloody midges :D

With the warm winter we had they are out already as well. Even parts of the runway need to have the grass cut.
flyingmate  28 points - 3/21/2012

can it be cut to size
 Elm's 41 points
Certainly! It's a PET Film...

30min charge? That's a lot! What is the glow time for 1 or 2 min charge?
 snappy 2294 points
Do the math :-)
 snappy 2294 points
I'll get some for my bike
 Sfakias 146 points
I can do the math, but that would include the assumption that the charge time and the glow time are linearly related. Doing the math does not yield a trustfull answer if you are based on assumptions! I would have thought that the said relationship is exponential, since decay rate is usually exponential...
 snappy 2294 points
 jerrykl720 1231 points
30min ,and it said upto 5 hours glow time!
 coptor 35 points
Yea.. assuming your power could last 5 hours... so really.. 5 hours = 300 minutes. If you fly for only 10 minutes, divide 30... so 30 mins divide by 30.. you only need to charge 1 minute for 10 minutes flight. 2 min charge enough for 20 minutes glow...
 sonnydc 117 points
I hate math. Thats why I became an accountant.
 snappy 2294 points
I had a great joke about Greeks not being able to add up, but pots shouldn't call kettles......
 lolzer 145 points
Can I put this on my wrist and go to a rave?
 snappy 2294 points
It's not a time machine :-)
 lolzer 145 points
bahahahah good call.
 simon.castle 510 points
Sounds like my broad band, that's up to something that you never get. Whats more important is the half life intensity. not 5hrs, I guess the initial brightness will decay fairly rapidly.
 sonnydc 117 points
I think this will be good as an emergency light during brown outs.
 snappy 2294 points
What are "brown outs"
 Dogshot 73 points
Brown outs are when you fly a heli way to close to yourself and nearly cut your own head off. When this happens you need a light so you can check your pants and see if any brown came out, hence the term brown-out. This is 100% fact
 lolzer 145 points
Yeah I think I read that on wikipedia
 Sawdust 1605 points
Yep. Wasting half an hours free daylight out of around 12 hours worth every day is a lot. Or you could be realy extravagent and expose it to some electric light if there isn't enough in a day for you.

Great product, arrived not so nice packed, like all decals at hk, verry bright. You must charge with an smd led is better than normal flashlights, do not apply on big surfaces because you need something big to light it up, also remember 30 min of charging will last for hours.

Ottimo prodotto. molto luminoso! Basta anche un solo minuto per raggiungere la massima luminosità. Non è necessario tenerlo per 30 minuti, ma è importante che la luce sia molto forte anche per pochi secondi.
