Hi, I know they recommend a 24-40 brushless motor for this glider, but do u think I could fit a 26-32 in there?(P2632 Brushless Outrunner) The 24's are hard to come by on this site. If so, would the supplied motor mount work? I assume not, but thought I'd ask. Thanks
 Graham 1 points
That motor is too heavy and too much power IMO. Also behind the firewall it is only 26mm gap, but then it widens up as you move further back.

Will this plane fly (well) on 3 channels? That is without ailerons / rudder only.
 Plemo 57 points
yes, it will. i have also built one Version with only 3 Channels.

Nice looking glider Plemo. Where can I find "airbrush foil"? I am not finding it on search engine. Maybe its called something else in English.

 Plemo 57 points
hi wolfram. in german language it is called Airbrush Folie oder Maskier Folie. Masking Foil? Maybe it is called masking foil :)
 Wolfram 2 points
Thanks Plemo. For English search: vinyl static cling film. It is mostly used for making temporary window signs. Sticks via static charge and will not peel paint off of EPP.

Hello, I was wondering if anybody was able to help me with building the elevator on this plane? I'm not sure how to assemble the wooden parts. is there maybe another way to do it? the wood seems very flimsy.
 mdem5059 7 points
Damn it now I know why I wasn't able to figure it out, I'm missing the bloody plastic piece that goes over the screw to connect the servo to the elevator connection. >< now I have to wait for hobbyking to sort this out. damn it ><

Is it as cold in the winter as it is in the north? It depends on weather it is as warm in the summer as it is in the south!
 mark 51 points
im from the north and yes it gets just as cold most of the time in the south as it does in the north.I have lived in the south for over seven years now and there is not much of a difference for the most part.Sure most of the time it is a little bit colder up north but it gets just as cold here in the south too.

Is this as good as the same as the Mini Spirit Glider?
 Plemo 57 points
if you built it propperly it is more flexible then the spirit. i own the spirit, this littel bird ans the kinetic. i prefere this becouse i was able to built it exactley as i wanted it. its even lighter, better for gliding and it is also a better "hotliner" because the esc, mtor, prop compbo is brillant.

You are all looking for a good Motor and Folding prop. Serch in the Web for this: Motor: Torcster Blue A2225/15-1800 32g ESC: Torcster 20A Folding Prop: Aeronaut 6x3 Spinner inkl. Konus: Aeroaut This Set It's the best i was able to find. It's even lighter then the original Merlin tuning Set and has a bit more Power. it pulls more then 430 Grams. ***********voltmaster.de/Flugzeuge/Ersatztei

Which Hobbyking motor can I use at this glider?

i would go with the size 28... enough to climb but not too quick

I nearly finished my EPO800 mini Glider. i flys relay well. With the choosen Motor Kit it goes unlimited Vertical but the wheigt is still low and it has verry good gliding tendecies. Its really good on Slope. I changed the glassfibre Rods to Carbon Fibre and also changed the pushrods from the original metal to carbon fibre. For the tail horizontal Stabelizer i used spare parts from the MPX merlin. Also the Nose is from the Merlin. target=_blank> Any questions? :)

Thnaks :)
 marius 16 points
Damn, thats a nice paintjob!! what paint did you use and what method? woud love to know. :)
 Plemo 57 points
it is simple acrylic spray paint. i tried out out a lot of different manufacturers an found out that they are really different in flex, overing power and surface-quality. The LRP Spray Paint for EPP and EPO Foam is good and it has a very nice and smooth surface. i used it for the black parts. The green paint is Marabu Do-it Acrylic Paint. before you start painting It's necessary to clean the foam with Acetone. but do this verry carefulyl und verry verry thin. put a few drips on a soft cloth and test it at a part of the plane that you don't mind. maybe the inside Fuselage before you glued the two halfs together. than paint the plane in maybe like 3-4 steps each paint. do verry thin painting each step and let the paint dry out before you spray the next layer. and keep in mind that paint is heavy and you don't want a heavy sail plane. :) for masking i often use airbrush foil wich is sicking to the material via static charge. that is for the parts where to diferent colors come close to each other. for curves and other masking where no colour must be masked i use simple electrician's tape. I'll put a foto of the paint i used to the files section. :) Show us a foto of your finished little Bird. I'm curious what nice job you will do. One Thing: you do not need to buy expensice Graupner Color for ELAPOR and the special Primer. The primer job will made by the Aceton, and the LRP paint is even better quality. The marabu paint is a little bit to prudish but there are so nice colors in their assortment. :)

ACETONE eats foam.
 Plemo 57 points
yes thats true. but it does not eat this type of epo. my glider ist still there - not eaten. have a look at this video where i put aceton on the elevator part of the plane.

Thanks Roy. The main issue with the Himax is lack of availablity in the UK and is price. I missed out the "C" on my suggested motor, should read "AX 1806C 2100kv" http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__5433__AX_
1806C_2100kv_Brushless_Micro_Motor.html.
The motor features a shaft exiting out of both sides.
 roy 101 points
This motor looks like it would fit well. Maybe a little small on propsize. I use the8x5 prop. Anyway try it and make a comment on performance.

Himax 2212-0840 motor is made for small to medium size models weighing 6 to 16 ounces. Weight: 31g, (1.1oz) Motor with stick mount Max Power: 50W, (This is dependent on several factors) Max RPM: 20,000 RPM Diameter: 21.8mm, (.86”*) Length: 25.6mm, (1.01”*) Shaft Diameter: 2.0mm (.0787”*) Folding prop from 7x4 to 8x5 There you have it. Superb little motor. Perfect fit in this plane.

A little confused at some of the motor recommendations as surely this model is meant to have the motor installed behind the ply motor mount. That way you can use a close fitting spinner and folding prop. There is no way a 28mm motor would fit without surgery which would weaken the mount area. So, I'm looking for a 24-26mm outrunner with the shaft exiting out of the rear. What about the AX1806 2100KV stocked by HK. 26 grams and can take a 5x3(3s) or 6x3(2S)?

what does it mean 24-40 Brushless Outrunner 24-40 ??? I want to buy turnigy motor like that http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18225__Tu
rnigy_D3530_14_1100KV_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html

is this fit for this glider ???
 Gary 3054 points
Scaled the photograph above and it look like a 35mm motor will fit ok.The motor you have chosen would be suitable power wise, recommends a 12 x 6 prop which will give you around 140w,model requires around 100w so you could if you wish use a smaller prop to give you longer flight times.
 kyrre 312 points
No way a 35mm motor will fit this glider, its far to big and heavy. 24-40 means that the motor is 24mm in diameter and 40mm in length. HK has no such motor, but you can use one of the C20 motors. I have the C20 1500 kv in my identical MPX Merlin and it works great. Or with some slight surgery you could probably fir one of the 26mm motors.
 Gary 3054 points
My first thoughts were a 24mm motor, but have to say the motor mount is for a bigger motor than 24mm,anyone have firsthand experience!!
 roy 101 points

What does the empty airframe weigh without electronics? Fuselage, wings, stabs, small parts?
 roy 101 points
I found that empty weight was about 130g-145g. Mine ended on 250g with 600 mah 3cell.

Hi Kaoskane. The ele strut are more than strong enough. I didnt use it, because i found the mpx merlin parts. The merlin elevator set fits like a glove.
