This looks awfully like a losi spur gear. Anyone know if they're the same?
 jeffrey 669 points
I do not know if the Losi spurs work, but I do know HPI spurs work,That is what I have replaced mine with,5mm center hole 48 pitch.Got mine at local hobby shop for $3 bucks. As long as center hole is 5mm ,they will work.85 tooth is the largest size,so you can still use dust cover.I used a 87 tooth but could not use dust cover.Hope this helps.JK.
 crashd 103 points
thanks, and the hpi works with the slipper disc?
 Josh 2 points
Will this spur gear www.link
 jeffrey 669 points
The HPI spur gears work, you can modify the slipper clutch discs to work,or just get HPI slipper clutch discs.JK.

does this work with the MG10
Tettrasphere  7 points - 1/22/2013

Hi, does anyone knows the size of the inner hole? thanks.
 jeffrey 669 points
5mm and HPI spur gears also work that you can get at local hobby shop.
Remko  529 points - 1/10/2013

I did not break any yet, but i think it is a good idea to have some spare on the shelf. :)
 jeffrey 669 points
Yes you need a few. Also Hpi spur gears work and you can get them at a local hobby shop.Hope this helps.JK.
 Remko 529 points
It did not help... I already had them on my shelf. :)

I can happily confirm that Kyosho DB spur gear fits perfectly, you can even keep the A2030 clutch plates. The Kyosho spur (Japan made) feels it's made of different plastic. Only....local hobby rip off shop charged $12 for it so it better be a lasting one.
Ebiker  160 points - 12/27/2012

Man that's so disappointing. Never in my life I've stripped new spur gear on 2S on the 2th pack. In fact I've never striped any spur no matter how much power I used. I don't want to buy this one again. Is there something that'll fit from another brand? This is not on.
 jeffrey 669 points
Hpi spur gears work also,$4 at local hobby shop.87 tooth.Hope this helps.JK.
 Ebiker 160 points
My new Kyosho spur starting to go bad after one pack too. I think the problem could be actually the clutch spring. It too stiff. I had to back it off having the nut only on two threads to get some slip from the clutch.
 jeffrey 669 points
My first one was too tight of clearence. 2nd one I put more clearence between gears and is still going strong with clutch spring tight.

quando saranno disponibili??
Mauricio  1 points - 10/27/2012

what is the pitch on this please???
 jeffrey 669 points
Its a 48 pitch.Hpi spurs work in the desert buggy.I have a 87 tooth hpi spur in mine. The only thing the cover will not fit with any spur bigger than 83 teeth.Hope this helps.JK

Will HK sell an uppgraded metal spur?
 traxxrc11 346 points
I have never seen a metal spur from hk so i assume No
 Vrdetailing 78 points
Maybe its better to have a weak point..
 thren 57 points
there always needs to be a weakest link in a drive chain. In this drive chain the spur gear is the weakest link, its cheap to replace and protects the more expensive parts. Its a good choice for a part thats easy to replace and dirt cheap, and when it breaks it saves the other more expensive bits....If they made a metal one, you need to think ...."whats the next bit that will break ?"
 Mr Sexy 16 points
If you need a metal spur thers a good chance your doing some thing wrong, if you set the mesh correctly you should have a problem. I've had plastic spurs on all sorts of rc's and they last a fair while when done properly
 Dale. J 1 points
your slipper clutch is not adjusted properly if you are stripping the plastic ones. Try loosening it off a bit and see how it goes. If you put a metal one on you could end up damaging something else worse than a spur gear.
 leclere 19 points
If you break this part,it means that your spur and the pinion gear are not adjusted !!! The best way to avoid issues with this part is to put a piece of paper between the spur and the pinion gear, with this method you have a right space between these parts.
john  18 points - 8/11/2012

any metal option to this?
 traxxrc11 346 points
metal is not good option, plastic spur is best,it absorbs the impact
 leclere 19 points
no metal spur gear at the moment ! the motor pinion is in metal, so the plastic spur gear act as a fuse in case of problem.
john  18 points - 8/11/2012

which is cheaper than kyosho>
 traxxrc11 346 points
This may be cheaper,but softer
 thren 57 points
because it is not branded "kyosho"

 SammyC 80 points
Relatively soft plastic and quite a lot out of round, which requires very careful setting of gear mesh. Also because of tight/loose backlash throughout rotation, pinions won't last as long as in other higher quality setups. But, both the pinion and spur are so cheap, get a heap of them while they are in stock!
john  18 points - 8/11/2012

this or kyosho one?
 traxxrc11 346 points
Kyosho one is harder nylon,i guess
 Otomar 15 points
Kyosho or Losi is better choice
 jeffrey 669 points
Hpi Spurs work also

as pictured, same mold as original by the looks. Buy 2 at this price, you may as well have them in your kit for when you need them, rather than have to wait for them to be posted or in stock

This part keeps stripping, HK are you going to use a better plastic to make these? I am not happy about this as I cannot even finish a race with out these gears stripping. This buggy now sits gathering dust.....

Quite a bit out of round, so needs careful adjustment of gear mesh. Also because of this, the pinion never lasts too long. Strips very often, but so cheap and easy to replace, stock up on spares!
