POWER Introducing a charger like no other...the Turnigy Fatboy 8 - an ultra powerful 1300W workhorse! So much more than a charger, we had to call it something else, so we chose to label it a "Battery Workstation". Capable of charging, discharging, monitoring or performing multiple cycles on any current or future battery chemistry at alarming speed, Fatboy 8 represents the end of all speculation about who sells the most powerful battery management system in its class for the best value. At price per WATT, it blows the lid off the competition and represents unprecedented VALUE.
SAFETY Do not be scared off by the claims of this advertisement by thinking this is too much charger for you. This may be the safest, simplest charger you will ever use. That's because safety was the #1 priority when designing this charger. As a result, you can not make a mistake when you use it. It simply will not let you. It knows how many cells are connected by monitoring charge voltage on each cell in the pack individually. It performs an entire series of tests to make sure the battery is hooked up correctly to the charger before it ever even starts to charge, checking for valid voltages on each cell, reverse polarity conditions, reversed node wiring to name a few. It constantly monitors the total pack voltage and compares that to the sum of the individual cells. It can not and will not ever charge a single lithium cell above the proper end-of-charge voltage and assures you of the most accurate, laboratory quality readings at all times. Furthermore, if a pack has been over-discharged, it will automatically enter low-voltage restore mode. It will reduce charge voltage during cold weather to extend battery life; all parameters associated with this feature can be adjusted by the customer. Even though batteries in general, and especially lithium batteries, represent a volatile potential, the Fatboy 8 reduces the risks associated with maintaining any size battery, any chemistry by magnitudes over other brands. Fatboy 8 represents the next phase in the evolution of safety.
RELIABILITY Take top-notch components capable of handling all of the stresses associated with super-high power, high voltage operation; things like an over-sized heat sink, extra-heavy duty 10AWG input wire, twin cooling fans and a gigantic sendust core toroid inductor to handle higher input current and combine these with stable firmware/software that is thoroughly tested in-house and with outside beta testing, and what you get is a new standard in reliability. We don't like getting chargers back from the field for any reason. That's why we've gone the extra mile on this one.
The Fatboy 8 also features an environmentally friendly, regenerative discharge capability of up to 1300W. Unlike traditional methods of discharge, which deplete the output battery's energy in the form of heat across a transistor, regenerative discharge takes most of that energy and puts it back into the input battery. Regenerative discharge is an optional feature. Turn it on when you need the highest power discharge. Turn it off and use standard internal discharge of up to 100W if you choose.

This charger and the related balance board would not work to charge packs in parallel.
The cable was assembled wrong. See this post! (Post 11# Specificly)

Shame on you HK, I have recieved the charger today and charger had 1575g with packing... where did you get these 1750g its 175g diffence = 5 LSD NiMH batteries *)
HK writen: Note: Balance board required, sold separately. See related items below. However below there are only power units. WHERE to buy this "board"?
K tnx haha, wich charger would be good for me i wanna charge 4x 3s 5000mah parralel and at least with a charge rate of 5c? And dont spend like 200 dollars only for the charger..
I have a 24v 2.4Ah Lipo battery pack (Toshiba SCiB) that is brand new, but has been allowed to discharge to .3 volts**-will this charger be able to revitalize the battery ? thanks! ge
YES please give us the software NOW! I have been waiting 3 month.
The only answer I got is: "Please be advised that this issue has been forwarded to related department, and we are still waiting for their reply. " I got this answer dec 15 and jan 17.
This is NOT acceptable, This charger is more or less worthless for my needs. I have the iCharger 3010 that works good with pc interface. I wonder if you are not allowed to make a ccs to this branded charger? Maybe Revoelectrix don't allow it?
im wondering when (if ever) we will see a PC suite software that will work with this version of the charger ?
i tried revolectrix ccs, but no go im afraid.
i would like to be able to monitor and graph my charging on the PC, like i can with my other charger (Hyperion EOS 0720i SD3)
hobbyking, please release a pc software that will allow this charger to show it's full potential.
HELLO FREINDS..IM LITTEL CONFUSED WHAT TO BUY..THIS ONE THE FAT BOY OR THE iCharger 208B 350W 8s Balance/Charger...I NEED YOUR HELP TO RECOMEND WHAT TO ORDER AND BUY..THE MOST BIG BATTERY THAT I HAVE TO CHARG IS 22.2V 4000MAH 6S 25C...PLEASE HELP ME AND RECOMEND WHAT TO BUY..AND WHAT A POWER SUPLAY I NEED TO ORDER AND BUY.....THANKS FOR HELPING ME IM REALLY CONFUSED....ALON
You have found an interesting device. 350W vs. 1300W. You need 27-32V 1600W power supply to get full potential. It may be very expensive. Do you need it? Lets calculate: 25.2V(6S)*4A(1C for 4000mAh)=100.8W. However, 25.2V(6S)*20A(5C 4000mAh)=504W. And if you go for parallel charging (6 lipos at the same time, max charger current): 25.2V*40A=1008W.
What is charging profile for acid PB batteries ? Does it charge to static voltage or is it using a smart charging profiles like IUoU (bulk, absorption, float phases) ?
Good news, people. At last, we have found the "Fuel Level %" screen in this charger. To see the screen, you should create new charging profile for any battery on any empty memory cell and you would find this screen among others. I just can't understand why this screen is not seen from any default charging profiles.... Anyway, using this charger for 5 month and it works perfect. Still, 2 x 6S (3,500mAh each) charging with 2C takes only 20 minutes as it was from the very beginning.
Hi
On page 8 in the FB8 User’*s Guide:
Regenerative voltage upper limit into Lead Acid battery: 14.40V
Regenerative current upper limit into Lead Acid battery: 10A
Note: All of the above parameters can be adjusted directly on the FATBOY 8, except Regenerative Amps and Regenerative Voltage, which are fixed."
different from PL8 User’*s Guide:
"Note: All of the above parameters can be adjusted directly on the PowerLab 8, except Regenerative Amps and Regenerative Voltage, which must be set using CCS"
How is it then possible to reg. discharge with more than 144W on Fatboy 8. PL8 has the possibility to change that from CCS.
Hi Ben, How long will we have to wait for the pc usb cable interface, software updates and possibly the FMA paralell charge board?? This charger has been listed for a while now and i have bought one in good faith. I see no reason why it would take too long to offer the optional items and software support, can you please chase it up, you will probably find your turnover will be better when people see the customer support. Thanks in advance
I am interested in this too. The only thing stopping me from buying it is unclear data logging functionality. I currently use iCharger 208B for a few years, which is great. But I need more current.
A parallel board allows you to charge multiple batteries but there are strings attached. The batteries must all be the same cell count and they must all be close to the same voltage, say within 0.2V or so of each other. Connecting batteries that are at different levels of charge to a parallel board will burn both the batteries and the board. You need to take care.
Unfortunately, I do not see the fucntion screen with "Fuel Level in %" during charge like it was in original PowerLab 8v2. Does FatBoy have such screen in either mode? Even manual downloaded from here mentions this screen, but it seems to be not present....
Glad they sorted it all out for you Shayut but you could of told us how you got it working again, unless it's to complicated and to long to wright down.as it might help someone else out in the future, just saying thats all.
I just bought Turnigy Fatboy 8 1300W Workstation. All the screen function are gone because me try to Update Firmware with PowerLab 8 Firmware which i have no idea this Turnigy Fatboy 8 run on different Firmware. now nothing on my Turnigy Fatboy 8 is working at all.
Any idea how do i get this Turnigy Fatboy 8 Firmware restore??? Need help please.
Has anybody tested this to the max (8s lipo *40A) or near the max to see if it is reliable? Please tell me if it can handle this much with out breaking. And post some reviews.
As there is no cable for the balancer for 8S you first have to solder one. Then it works ! But the plug for a 8S JST connector is not an easy buy and HK's adapter allows only balancy 2S-6S. Unfortunately my DC power supply has only 25A so max amps for an 8S in my configuration is approximately 10A.
Hi there all. REVOJohn here from REVOLECTRIX factory Singpore. 100% confirm we OEM the charger for Ben and the boys so feel free to power her up fully. Note it does not run with REVOLECTRIX CCS. The IR will measure on each cell individually and factory upgrades of software can be done via the link in the FILES page here.
I bet it's going to be a long time. Look how long it is taking them to get the software out for this one. It should be identical to the Revolectrix Power Lab 8 other than the name that pops up on the screen. Strange why it takes so long.

Just got the charger today. I had downloaded the manual before. This charger is when comping it to my "old" one relatively complicated to operate and the manual has lots of room for improvement. But after two hours of getting started I think I can charge and discharge my batteries with it. Just charged and discharged a 1S2P A123 with it so far everything seems to work.
The upgrade program works as well via the interface but so far there is nothing to upload except version 4.03.

Just received FatBoy. I've used PowerLab 8 v2 for a couple of days before and therefore, I can compare.... Seems to be exactly the same item (i would disassemble it after tomorrow along with PowerLab in order to prove it), but the firmware seems to be a bit different. For example, FatBoy lacks the fuction of showing charging progress pcnt during charging as PowerLab 8 originally does. This is very useful function, but unfortunately not present here. All other settings and functions seems to be the same. Just charged 2 x OptiPower 3,500mAh from 3,75V to full charge at 1C in 37 minutes.

Note the balance connector is JST PA and will not work with standard JST XH balance taps. Still looking for an adaptor for this.

Awesome charger!, balances very fast and very accurately. No waiting endlessly like on the common 50w chargers at the end of charge to balance and then there way off anyway.Comes with no output cables at all.

Super happy with the TURNIGY fatboy 8, AKA , FMA / REVOLECTRIX Power lab 8. Does not show percentage graph of battery charged as the power lab 8 does, but i normally just keep the volts per cell window open whilst i paralell charge. Just paralell charged 6 x 5000 mah heli batteries at 39.5 amps at 24 volts using my meanwell se 1000-24. total charge time was 27 minutes, perfectly balanced charged, ready to go. GREAT WORK HOBBY KING AND FMA-REVOLECTRIX.
